Zach Randolph to the Clippers
there's your link.
apparently just hours after harrington is shipped to new york for jamal crawford,
most likely for cap space reasons, the knicks trade their second leading scorer i'm assuming in zach randolph for cuttino mobley and tim thomas. another interesting trade by the knicks. obviously this all trying to get cap space to land lebron in 2010. but wouldn't you think lebron would be more appealed in coming to the knicks if they actually had some good players waiting to play with him when he got there? LOL
what do you guys think?

completely agree
I think the Knicks are really stupid for all of this. Lebron wants to win championships, that’s why I think the whole “save for Lebron in 2010” is BS cause Lebron wants to win and he has a pretty damn good team in Cleveland right now. As for the clippers there quite the little dealers but I still see them sucking

If you want to tell me that the Knicks won’t get a player or two on that list that are better than Crawford and Z-Bo, I’ve got a bridge to sell you in Alaska.
Plus, that list doesn’t include guys who will pull a Ben Gordon and sign their QO just to be in next year’s class because so many teams will have space.

Wait...
So there’s transferrence between sports?
Could’ve fooled me, since talent level matters a whole hell of a lot more in the NBA with its 8-10 man rotations and 12 man active rosters than baseball which actually uses a ton more guys.
If that doesn’t matter, just ask the Celtics, who went from the cellar to the NBA title or the Pistons who added Sheed mid-season and won a title.
Or the Spurs, who consistently had the best talent in the NBA for their titles.

"He has a pretty good darn team in Cleveland"
Because he’s there. Otherwise, they’re just a bunch of dudes.
The Knicks “LeBron, Wade, Bosh, or Bust” plan may not work out, but at least now they have a freaking plan, which is better than you can say for 75% of the teams in the league. Better than you can say for the Knicks of the last few years (“let’s acquire as many overpriced lazy vets as we can!”) , and alas, better than you can say for the current Warriors (“what’s our plan, again?”)
Like the Celtics of last year, they’re playing a hand, and they’re going all in. Good for them. Already, Donnie Walsh >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Isiah Thomas.

stephen a. smith said on ESPN today that the Knicks may make run at LeBron PLUS either Wade or Bosh or another max money type star. I think Stephen A. is, as usual, full of crap here…..but its still an interesting thought. A chance at a team with Wade AND LeBron is probably worth throwing away the next couple years for.

According to Jalen Rose
LeBron and Bosh have already made a pact to sign, in tandem, with the Knicks in 2010.
Doesn’t really matter if the remaining rotation is total scrubs — that’s a perennial championship contender.
Rose could be full of cheese doodles too, but even it’s a 25% shot, I think the Knicks are (finally) doing the right thing. Big-market b*stards. ;-(

Cap Space + Tank Job
They get the cap space plus a chance to get a high pick. They can pull a Boston and trade their pick for an older star.
$27M is alot of cap space. They can go ahead and sign other good players after landing one of the big names.
Plus, I don’t think Lebron would giggle on the thought of playing alongside Randolph and Crawford.
by lightz0ut on Nov 21, 2008 2:25 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
Wrong
The Knicks will have their first this year.
All they have left in terms of owed picks is a 1st rounder to the Jazz (top 22 protected in 2009 and unprotected in the 2010 Draft) and their own 2nd this year to Portland via Chicago.

I Like The Crawford Trade But Would Rather Have Rose...Reason why?
BRING DIRK NOWITZKI TO THE BAY!!!!!
Seriously, Dirk is the only 2010 Big Name free agent I could seriously see signing with the Warriors. He was Nelly’s ultimate find and ,I personally think, favorite player ever. Don once said “Dirk will revolutionize the game of basketball”.
Dirk would fill the biggest need for us (PF) and would be the final piece to the Dubs becoming a legit title contender….imagine a line up….
pg Monta
sg Jack
Sf Maggette
PF Dirk
C Beans
Bench, Buike, Morrow, Wright, Randolph, Turiaf, etc.
Dirk likes the Bay Area and was about to play for Cal before entering the NBA. I think the Warriors getting Rose could have helped them look to the future and save money for the Summer Of Dirk in 2010. I havn’t looked at the salary structure recently, but if we can still somehow squeeze Dirk into a free agent signing while being able to hold onto Morrow, Wright, Randolph and maybe Belinelli, then I really like this trade. I just know that Rose’s expiring would have definitely allowed us to do that.
by JimBarnett2KevinGarnett on Nov 21, 2008 2:32 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
I'd love that too
But there is no reasonable way that the Warriors would’ve had the capspace to sign a guy to a max deal.
A sign+trade would have been absolutely possible (and still is), but Monta, Jackson (now extgended), Beans, and Maggette made that impossible before the Crawford deal
by dprodigy19 on Nov 21, 2008 2:43 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Let's dream big!!!!
Dirk is at 18 mil so thats Crawford and Magette or Jack
Steve Nash is at 12 mil thats Maggette or Jack plus BWright or Marco
Reunite Dirk Steve and Nellie and give them Monta Buike and Dre plus Morrow CJ Turiaf and Randolph. Where’s the rings at???? Dirk loves the bay. Steve Nash is reppin Santa Clara!!!!! Do this trade.
Sadly this will never happen
by myk on Nov 21, 2008 3:55 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
ha, youre dreaming……but maybe if the Mavs continue their awful season theyd consider dealing Dirk. I dunno that Crawford and Maggette would get it done though.

Would be nice indeed
So many things can and will happen until 2010 (traded, injuries, drafts) that trying to predict anything is impossible.
Hell, both could go to europe or china and get paid 30 mil a year :)

Warriors vs. Knicks
Are you fine seeing the Warriors make deals via trade, as opposed to clearing cap space to lure free agents? Who are the biggest free agents we’ve signed over the past few years? Maggette, Turiaf, Danny Fortson? It seems our best talent has come from the draft and via trade. Arenas, Jamison, J-Rich, Baron, Jackson, Harrington. I know I’m only talking fairly recent, but even in 90s, who were we signing? John Starks? I think Warriors management realizes guys just don’t want to sign to play for the Warriors. Even though they were pipe dreams, we sent max offers to Brand and Arenas and didn’t land either. I like the way the Warriors are building their team. They could clear all this cap space for 2010, then put out offers to LeBron, Wade, Bosh, etc. only to get beat by teams that are historically winners.
How will this trade look if in 2010 the Knicks get rejected by LeBron, Wade, Bosh, and others? Then the Knicks will over spend their extra cash to attract mid-level guys just because they have the cash. I’m comfortable with our base for the next three to five years.
by Eggman on Nov 21, 2008 2:46 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
+1
We will NEVER get a superstar from free agency. Even if they want to come here, other teams will outbid us. Look what happened to Brand and Arenas. We gave them the most we could, but we ended up with Maggette because we gave him the best offer.

Brilliant by the Knicks, idiotic by the Clippers.
People, the Knicks play in New York City. If they can pay people, people will want to play there. They will, at the absolute worst, land Chris Bosh in 2010. This was a fabulous day of trading by Donnie Walsh.
Meanwhile, the Clippers’ roster is the biggest mess I’ve ever seen. Poor Baron.

meh
I actually kinda like it for the Clipps. There has to be a team desperate enough for a center to give up a good player or two for Kaman. I like the Randolph/Camby combo almost as much as Brand/Kaman. They also didnt really give up much talent and Mobley and Thomas arent exactly known to be great team guys. With young pieces like Thornton and Gordon and whoever they get for Kaman with Baron, Randolph, and Camby they could really compete for a playoff spot.

Poor Baron is right
So do you start Randolph and Kaman with Camby off the bench? What a mess. Camby was a borderline all star last year and you have him coming off the bench. Great trade for the Knicks. If I remember correctly, Tim Thomas thrived in D’antoni’s system in Phoenix. New York is a desirable place to play, which is why they WILL land a superstar free agent. Biggest stage besides L.A. in America and great fans.

Stephen A. Smith
Said today that the Knicks will save 27.5 million for 2010 with these two deals and may be able to offer not one but two max contracts. So, for example … a Lebron and a Wade or an Amare.
How did Donnie Walsh get anyone to take Eddy Curry? Seriously, he deserves to have a statue erected immediately in front of Madison Square Garden for cleaning up Isiah’s unholy mess so quickly.

I feel bad for Camby, he’d be perfect to run with Baron. I really think dunleavy sr. will keep camby benched and give major minutes for the wanna German Kaman and the overweight randolph. speaking of that, WTF is NYK doin, they trade one fat ass away for another overweight and unmotivated PF in Al. (thx for takin our burden Walsh). Randolph is a below the rim player and Harrington is starting to remind me slightly of Antoine Carr in his Utah Jazz days backin up the mailman. Good thing out of all of this is, GSW comes out on top, finally after not doing much trading pre 2006 they pull some moves and get shit done. As for LAC and NYK, all I can say is good luck lurring Bron Bron after not winning more than 30 games in a season. He wants a playoff contender not move to the same situation that was in Cleveland before he got there. Idk what NY is thinkin.

Randolph
Thornton
Jrich (Wallace)
Baron

Kaman is younger than Camby, unfortunately so it looks like Camby is the odd man out of the starting line up, even tho he is so much more athletic and will mesh better with B diddy. Baron will have so many more options if he does have Kamans big ass standing still in the paint clogging up space.

I did not understand this trade...
…from the Clippers point of view. Where’s the improvement?? Cap reason???? I don’t think so… Zach is fat, lazy and robotic, at least he’s got skillz that are way underused because of the afore-mentioned reasons.
So what would be the point of trading their 6th mand + starting SG (a good one, btw), both skilled, for him????
Someone please explain this to me, thanks.

Z-Bo is more talented than youre giving him credit for. I think he could fit very well next to Camby and idealy they could trade Kamn for a guard who is better than Mobley. That would leave them with a very very good starting 5 and they would still have Ricky Davis, Eric Gordon and Brian Skinner off the bench. I think they could be a playoff team if they get good return for Kaman.
