Gotta love the trade though
When you consider that we were basically better off without Al Harrington and getting rid of him for nothing would have been an addition by subtraction, you gotta love that we got a really nice player in Crawford.
If you haven't noticed, we really needed a guy like him, no matter what you say about him, I think this was the perfect scenario.
If you think about it, we don't have any superior ball handlers with out the presence of Monta. I would say the guys that have been handling it the best so far have been Watson, M. Williams (really nice handles, sucky player overall) and Jackson, who is a little shaky consider he is not a point, but has been doing a really nice job with that being considered.
I really like this trade because we get a quick combo guard, with great handles, and a great shot. Like Steinmetz said, this just gives the dubs more depth and more firepower.
We will also benefit from this because we will have to rely less on the 3 undrafted guys. Yes I love Watson and Morrow and they will still play, Azabuike I am not too fond of (surprisingly he has a PER under the league average, can't shoot for crap, tries to do more than he is capable and turns the ball over, but its cool he hustles) As much as I love Morrow, as of right now he is basically one dimensional and I still think he will help us tremendously, we shouldn't rely on him to be a major contributor night in, night out. Watson has shown glimpses of brilliance, has exceeded my expectations and has played great in absence of Monta, but he cannot be relied on night in and night out either. Azabuike, love him sometimes, hate him sometimes, he is inconsistent, he can't shoot, even on his good nights he is playing too many minutes. Those guys can all play, but they are not as consistent so this gives us another option.
We really shouldn't be worried about minutes being taken away, because if they are replaced by more productive minutes, than it is much better for the team. The best players will play. Nellie has shown he will stick to that. If any of the 3 players mentioned above are playing great, they will get minutes, but if they are having an off night, Don won't be forced to leave them in the game.
In the future I think Monta and Crawford will play pretty well together. I am not sure if in the long run he will start for us, but no matter what I think he will be another weapon and an upgrade over our current guards.
**Added
So some people are mad because of Crawford's contract. I would like to see some discussion about that. Personally I don't really think it makes a difference on how much the guys are paid, I just want them to put out the best team they can. And some people are saying now we won't be able to be players in the free agent market in 2010. Correct me if I am wrong, but even if we wouldn't have made this trade we would have to cut a lot of salary to be able to sign a big name. My guess is that we would have to get rid of Jackson and Maggette, plus some of our younger guys we would be unable to resign. I also have this feeling that the 2010 free agency will not live up to the hype. Don't most big names end up just resigning with there teams? I am really not sure though I would like to here what everyone has to say

A lot of people are crying about the minutes being taken away from guys
you guys gotta realize that the current players’s feelings and PT do not matter. so when we add another player don’t cry about how he will take away minutes from the guys here. Any minutes that he takes away from another guy are deserved and make us a better team. Nellie will play the best players. Besides the competition for PT will make everyone better.
Dubs Fan in Boston said it perfectly (with sarcasm of course)
"I hate it when we add players who’re good enough to take PT away from other, suckier players…
Sarcasm?
What are you talking about… I never use sarcasm

monta and jamal
A lot of people consider both of them “unguardable” and we will have them both in our backcourt! there both quick as hell and can score at will. I think the two of them together is going to be really fun to watch. Hopefully they can improve their defense.
now bring on Dirk
i strongly feel dirk may be our final piece to the puzzle. So this how we can acquire him.
3 way trade: GSW/DAL/MIA
GSW gets DIRK
DAL gets ELLIS – HASLEM – DRAFT PICK
MIA gets WRIGHT – BELINELLI – WILLIAMS
LINEUP:
PG CRAWFORD – WATSON
SG JACKSON – MORROW
SF MAGGETTE – BUKE
PF DIRK – RANDOLPH
C BEANS – TURIAF
Ellis AND Wright?!
I wouldn’t even do Ellis by himself. The last thing we need is a shoot first “big man” who is a mediocre rebounder.

both quick as hell and can score at will.?
If they can score at will they should each put up about 100 each points per night unless they choose not to?

I do like the trade overall. I don’t think Marcus Williams is sucky at all, just not getting a fair share of minutes. Everybody’s so crazy over Morrow right now; let’s not forget he scored that 37/25 in games he got a chance to start and played for over thirty minutes in. Nellie’s got to stop taking Williams out after four minutes or he’s going to do exactly what he said he was doing in Jersey, which is “not really playing his game since he was too busy just trying not to make mistakes.” We all know what happens when you’re trying to do your job and someone’s looking over your shoulder. And no, Jackson can’t play the point. He makes too many mistakes. He’s a good handling/passing wing, which is completely different. Every time I see him come up the court with the ball, my stomach turns. Watch harder the next few times he does, you’ll see what I mean.
does anyone have anything to suggest
that marcus williams can really play? we went into the season with cj watson and demarcus nelson as his competition for minutes and he couldn’t get on the court then. i’ve gotta say, i really doubt that nelson has a personal vandetta against the guy that’s keeping him on the bench. it’s more likely that he just isn’t good. this is what we saw in jersey and what we’re seeing here, and what we may or may not be seeing in some other random nba city next year if someone is desperate enough to roll the dice. if you can’t get pt on this warriors team with the point guard situation we had before this trade, it seems very likely that you are not a good basketball player.
heart of a champion, will of the warrior.
Marcus W is not playing because Don Nelson doesn't think he is in shape, He will be a great backup point guard for some team
Last year everyone kept saying Rondo needed to be replaced, everyone needs a chance, If we played him 30 minutes a game for 5 games guaranteed, the pressure to not make mistakes would be lessened and I think we would see a good pass first PG, not someone scared that Don N is going to think they should be doing something they are not. CJ sucked when he first came in, now he sucks less, see what playing time can do…
Thank you
I’ve been saying this all year: Jackson CANNOT play point. Sure he can pass some, but that hardly makes him capable of running the offense. I like this trade now and I’ll love it once Monta comes back. I’m still curious how the PF is gonna play out. Monta, Crawford, Jax, Mags and Beans? All good players, but as we’ve seen time and time again, the Dubs will be killed on the defensive boards. I’d rather have Randolph starting at the four. I know he is gonna be a three some day, but for now he’s a four. Let him make mistakes, but his upside far out-weights those mistakes. Plus, I think he will be the best player on our team in two years. I want to see what he’s got. Probably won’t happen though because Mags just got a big contract, but him as our 6th man would be amazing. If Odom on the Lakers can do it, then I believe Mags can too. Granted we aren’t the Lakers, of course.
okay
some think he can do an okay job at pg, some think he can’t play point, the fact is we needed help either way and we got it through this trade. Williams, is weak. I thought he would be good until I actually saw him play. He has nice handles and is a good passer but when you consider everything else, I would much rather have CJ or now Jamal be in there
the big trade is off the board...However
there are louder whispers of one move…softer whispers of a second move before the trade deadline.
Go Warriors!
assuming no other moves
isn’t realistic – it’s obvious to everyone that we are overloaded at SG/SF & underloaded at PF
Yes, Crawford playing is better than Harrington not playing, that’s obvious, particularly with Ellis out
re your request for arguments over his contract – we simply have too much $ invested in too few positions – not even Nelson is going to start Ellis, Crawford, Jax, and Maggs with Andris on a nightly basis, and if he did he’d be putting an undersized $50m player with already questionable hammies up against NBA PFs
all which means we have an expensive 6th man and KAz, who has earned that role and done well in it, will be squeezed out – and has been mentioned by others as an attractive trading chip (which would be disappointing but …)
the biggest issue with the contract situation is there are going to be very few takers for these guys at these prices – except Andris or possibly Monta, for the most part they are gonna be difficult to move for quality PFs
for now, we enjoy having lots of small ball lineups and hopefully higher scoring games than we did in Philly
Kaz
Makes $3M, fine for a 7th or 8th guy off the bench. Biedrins makes $9M, way underpaid for what he’s bringing to the table. Maggette, Jax, and Crawfor are all overpaid by a little, Turiaf is perfect. Monta… we’ll see. The rookies are on rookie contracts. The contracts may be a little too long in some situations, but overall it’s not overpaying people that’s the problem. It’s that we don’t have enough talent, especially down low.

overpaying is the problem
if we can’t trade them for players that will bring the talent we agree we need – we’re stuck in a cycle
we have too much talent at one-and-half positions, and too little talent everywhere else and the only way to reconcile that is to trade some assets but these contracts have made Jax & Maggs virtually untradeable, and we had to trade big – for – small just to unload Harrington, again partially due to the contract that he had brought with him from Indy (also indirectly tied to the bloated contracts of DunMurphy). Unless you are a Zach Randolph fan or are in favor of trading Monta, there are few bigs worth trading for that we could trade small – for – big using these guys.
I was in favor of signing Maggs when we knew Jax’s contract was going to run out and Kaz had been secured to back them up. Now extending Jax unnecessarily and adding Crawford for Harrington just exacerbates the logjam. Crawford may be a terrific player, but we’ll never max out the benefit of Jax, Maggs, Crawford, Monta and KAz all at once. And that doesn’t even take into account Morrow. Craw helps us now at PG, but in the long run those big contracts are going constrain us.
Agreed
I agree completely. The logjam is set, now there are too many untradable contract that can’t be moved. The dubs are stuck with this squad, which only has a chance at the playoff for about 4-5 more years. Really???
I think it would have been a much better idea to trade Al to cleveland for wally or some other expiring contract, or let hime come off the books completely. Let him do his Starbury thing and sit the bench, and we coulda picked up a decent big in the 2010 FA class. If him and Jax both coulda came off the books together in 2010, then there were some serious options to go alongside beidrins, monta, and maggette. Now we’re stuck being the same team that couldn’t make the playoffs for 13 years. I’m hella bitter
advocated just that, but Rowell wasn’t listening – Harrington’s contract coming off the books would have been a boon to either Feb trade-deadline or next summer’s moves, now without a trade we are limited to a mid-teens draft …
the logjam is at the worst position and the best position – unlike Sac which has too many PFs we have too many SG/SFs which seem to be the easiest positions to fill adequately while good bigs are harder to come by, yet we do have a coach who is at least able to accommodate to the roster he’s been given and make the most of what he’s got (has everyone forgotten our previous coach? the one who couldn’t connect with Baron and is now down the street from the Oracle – wonder if Cal will ever play at the Oracle … )
