Game 15: Warriors @ Celtics: No Hope

Golden State Warriors at Boston Celtics, Nov 26, 2008 4:30 PM PST

Update: Check out the Boston Celtics blog, Celtics Blog

About the only thing that will help us tonight

Warriors (W-L): 5-9
Celtics (W-L): 0-15
Time: 4:30 PM PST
TV: CSN
Radio: KNBR1050

We go from getting blown out by one of the worst teams in the league to facing one of the best teams in the league, on the back end of a back to back, in their house.

Kevin Garnett

Paul Pierce

Ray Allen

As Scooby always said, ruh, roh.

From "A New Hope" to No Hope. I wonder if Jamal Crawford is still excited about being here. One game doesn't make a big difference, but after this brutal road trip, he might change his mind. If the Warriors pull this one out, I'll have a lot more to be thankful for while eating my turkey tomorrow.

Predictions

- Warriors by -20
- Crawford goes for 20
- Jax turns the ball over 5 times but scores 20+
- Celtics hold the Warriors to under 90.

Hit the jump for a fun video.

Star-divide

I know, I know. Game is in Boston and we don't have Baron. But still, this is a great highlight against Boston. We'll need some of that tonight.

Last time we played the Celtics

We beat them without Stephen Jackson, and I don’t even think we hit a single three pointer in the game.

We have to RUN hard against this team, that’s the only way we can beat them. We would just get killed in the halfcourt. Last season, the Celtics were 15-0 against Western Conference teams, but suddenly went on a 3 game losing streak when they had to play the Suns, Warriors and Nuggets all in a row. All fastbreak teams. And then in the playoffs, the Hawks proved that even a team below .500 can go 7 games against Boston, as long as the team is fast and athletic.

But we’re playing the Cavaliers in the Finals. Cavs are going to beat the Celtics in 6 games and then the Warriors will beat the Cavs in 5.

Cleveland's crowd sucks.

Their crowd sits down the whole game, and even when they cheer they’re quiet. If you listen to their crowd cheer as a whole, they sound like a bunch of girls.

It sounded so good hearing that lineup on the floor: “Baron, Barnes, Harrington, Biedrins and Monta.”
Not that I long for that lineup but just NOT hearing Jackson’s name associated with being some sort of crunch-time playmaker.
Then again he did hit that massive three against the Lakers in L.A.
But Baron did that too.

Blowout?

Look, I am just as disgusted as anyone by the game last night. But I actually think we have a chance to win, because we always seem to play up to the good teams and look like crap against the bad wins (except the Clippers, HAHAHAHA). Then again, I thought we would blowout the Wiz. Such is the life of a Warriors fan

The line of thinking that this team plays weaker against good teams only applied to the Baron-led team of last season.
Rookies, injured stars and free agents don’t make for the playoff team of ’07. The mindset is not the same anymore.

by so ill so d0pe on Nov 26, 2008 1:26 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah I always noticed that too

I’m not sure if it’ll apply to this year’s team but I always noticed in the past couple of seasons that the W’s did well against a lot of the top teams, but somehow crumbled to the not so top teams. It’s almost as if they thought “oh it’s this team. they aren’t so hot. we’ll just relax!” but end up losing it. and with the top teams, they would STEP IT UP. Hopefully they had a freaking wake-up call yesterday and will kick ass today. Or at least get it to single digits. -__-

Hey all...

Celtics fan here, but a Bay Area local…

Is Stephen Jackson really going to start at PF for the Warriors? How long do you expect that to last? I know Jackson is a very versatile defender who had harassed the liked of Dirk… but if KG decides to go inside at all (which I actually doubt) he should abuse Jackson all night.

How long before the Warriors go to a line up of Crawford-Maggette-Jackson-Turiaf-Biedrins? I’m guessing 4 minutes…

by Big Ticket on Nov 26, 2008 12:32 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I don't think Jackson has ever started at PF this season.

It’s most likely going to be Corey Maggette, since he has more bulk and can cause mismatches. Although Nellie might change the line-up this time since we’re going against KG in the post.

by Five Ten Entertainment on Nov 26, 2008 12:34 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

by VonteegoCummings on Nov 26, 2008 12:35 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

What is their "big" lineup these days?

Maybe B-Wright will get some time against KG?

So either way… there will likely be a 6’6" shooting guard on KG to start the game…. awesome.

by Big Ticket on Nov 26, 2008 12:40 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Well, Warriors are about the 2nd tallest team in the NBA

PG: Stephen Jackson (6’8")
SG: Corey Maggette (6’6")
SF: Anthony Randolph (6’10")
PF: Brandan Wright (6’11")
C: Andris Biedrins (7’0")

Nellie played that line-up a couple times in the beginning of the season. He also did different variations with Harrington at SF along with Turiaf at PF alongside Biedrins.

This is what's going to happen

The Celtics are going to blow out the Warriors by 30+ and then there will be 6 full minutes of garbage time in the 4th quarter. Patrick O’Bryant will come in the game and score a bunch of points on the Warriors, including 3 sky hooks. Once he scores his 19th point, he’s going to look at Nellie and give him a little grin as if to say, “You should have kept me on the team, fatty”.

Either

the dubs keep it close and lose it in the last 4 minutes, or they lead most of the way and somehow pull it off. the later, of course, can only happen if the celtics have an “off” shooting night.

or, the celtics have a 15pt lead by the end of 1st quarter and thats as close as they get.

I’d certainly expect that we’ll play better than last night, if only because it’d be hard to play worse. We ain’t winning, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we lost by, say, a dozen.

Tonight will be an interesting sanity check on Nellie. Will Wright and Turiaf be out there to try to slow down the Celtics’ bigs, or will Nellie small-ball us into a 20-rebound deficit again? Will also be interesting to see Crawford’s continued adjustments.

Tonight’s not about winning… there’s no reason to delude ourselves into thinking we can play with the giants of the league. Tonight’s about showing a pulse. If Wright gets over 20 minutes, and if the guys play a little smarter and at least look like they’re having a little fun out there, that’ll be enough for me.

by onlxn on Nov 26, 2008 1:10 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

i'd love to see more Turiaf

but Wright? from Lepper http://48minutes.net/

Brandan Wright, meanwhile, went 5-for-6 with five boards, but the Wizards scored at a 140.3 point-per-48-minute pace when he was on the floor. When Wright was at the 4, that number was even more striking: 181.3.

don’t get me wrong, i like Wright (i think they should use him as a go to option against the opposition’s 2nd team), but he still doesn’t have the bulk to handle the size of the Eastern conference. last night Blatche used Wright like a pimp w/ a hooker.

by the evil monkey on Nov 26, 2008 1:37 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Wright wasn’t on Blatche all that much, and Wright wasn’t really getting used in the post… he was slow getting around some screens, but so was everyone. Pace statistics like that aren’t particularly meaningful in a one-game sample. Our defense has not suffered when Wright has been on the floor the last two years. I do think Randolph was slightly better defensively than Wright yesterday, but it didn’t begin to make up for the chasm between the two on offense.

Muscle is an issue for Wright… he’s not going to make the All-Defensive Team being that skinny at the four. But his reach makes him a solid defender all the same, even an above-average one, and he’s been aces offensively. Wright helps us, no matter how beefy the opposition.

by onlxn on Nov 26, 2008 2:45 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

yeah? i could of sworn Wright was on Blatche when he was blowing up and they were on that run

my bad.

though i do think our defense hasn’t suffered b/c Nellie’s put him in spots to succeed defensively (against skinnier PFs – especially in the west)

by the evil monkey on Nov 26, 2008 3:01 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

That could well be. And Wright certainly did cover Blatche at points, and didn’t do a good job against him… I just don’t think he can be singled out for Blatche’s explosion. Blatche blew up against everybody. We were a step or two slow defensively all night, and the Wizards really efficiently took advantage of that.

I’m open to the idea that Wright is a flawed defensive player. I just think the guy should get enough run so that we could tell one way or the other. He’s succeeded in pretty much every situation Nellie has put him in… when a guy does that on a struggling team, you should probably try putting him in more situations.

by onlxn on Nov 26, 2008 3:18 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I think that’s as good a reaction as any. Whatever our flaws, we’re not as bad as we seemed yesterday. Better to laugh it off than to internalize the idea that we’re the worst team in basketball all of a sudden. I’m glad the Dubs aren’t as delusional as our friend Vonteego.

What have we got to lose?

Might as well play all our rookies and bench and give them a good burn. The Celtics might take us too lightly or might get confused by all the rookies mistakes? I’m guessing we don’t lose by more than 15 points as I don’t see any reason for Boston to think they need to humiliate us?

struggle against teams who are more athletic and as tough as them… such as the hawks…
are we more athletic?… shrug…

This is just the kind of game...

that the Warriors would win. They make no sense sometimes.

I just hope it doesn’t get too ugly.

Arenas was ready to return to Warriors

Not sure if this was posted already but I found the article pretty interesting.

Did you know?: In 19 seasons as a general manager, Wizards president Ernie Grunfeld had fired only one coach prior to Monday’s dismissal of Eddie Jordan.

Grunfeld gave Don Nelson the pink slip in 1996 after 59 games with the Knicks.

With the game in danger of getting away from the Warriors, Crawford began calling his own number. He penetrated for a driving layup. The next time down, he nailed a pull-up 3-pointer in transition from just left of the top, cutting Washington’s lead to 49-42 with 3:33 left in the half. Moments later, he went up for a 3-pointer but zipped a pass to forward Brandan Wright for a lay-up. The next time down, he knocked down an 18-footer off a screen-and-roll.

According to Wiki...

In 1980, the BK Broiler was introduced – this sandwich was made with lettuce, tomato and a dill ranch sauce served on a oat dusted roll.

In 1988, BK reformulated the BK Broiler into a larger, more male-oriented sandwich served on a Whopper bun, increasing its patty size while changing the ingredients to mayonnaise, lettuce and tomato.

In 2002, BK changed the name of the sandwich to Chicken Whopper and added a smaller Chicken Whopper Jr. sandwich.

In 2004, BK introduced its BK Baguette line of sandwiches that replaced the Chicken Whopper.7 The Chicken Baguette line was intended as a new health conscious oriented product that got its taste from ingredients instead of fat.

In 2005, BK again reformulated its broiled chicken sandwich to the current TenderGrill chicken sandwich.8 In November, 2007 the sandwich was slightly reformulated again, replacing the honey mustard with mayonnaise.

And there you have it….

Stephen Jackson

Born: 8-9-whatever
Died: 11-26-08

Here lies a guy who never saw a shot he ddnt like, although gave it all on the floor even if he doesnt have the capacity to do so. Perfected the art of dribbling off his foot and taking contested shots over the outstretched arms of 3 defenders. Was the perfect compliment to superstar players but caved in when it was his time to take the spotlight. A forever Robin that will and cannot be Batman.
