Will Jackson lead the league in turnovers this year?

It's quite possible.

It's hard to imagine another team in the NBA that would give as much ball time, and as many shots, to such a profoundly bad ball handler, and such a low percentage shooter.

Jackson's claim to fame on this team seems to be his "defense"  and his "toughness" (the only "tough" guy on a reletively "soft" team).  Without a traditional big center, and now without a point guard, Coach Nelson seems convinced that the Warriors can't compete without Jackson at the center of things.

At this point, however, the only thing certain about the Warriors, is that they can't compete with Jackson at the center of things.

Star-divide

I know Jackson has lots of defenders on this board, and I'm sure they'll come to his defense as the "Warrior's best player."  Those fans always start their argument for "Jackstack" with talk about his tough defense, and end with his "intangibles."

But even Jack's staunchest defenders must concede the Warriors would be better if he stopped hogging the ball, dribbling wildly into walls of defenders, and flinging up out of control shots.

But that's just who he is.  He's Baron without the handles.

His patented move consists of slow motion dribbling the ball at eye level, right up to an astounded opposing player, only to have that player (surprise!) take the ball and fly off in the opposite direction.  Jackson then flings his arms up in disgust at the refs "missed foul"  (it's never his fault for giving the ball away) then running after the player who picked him, and whacking or grabbing that player from behind in a fit of frustration. This immediately results in not only the original turnover, but a completely unnecessary team foul, and easy free throws for the other side.

This series of Jackson "moves" is on display every game.  Obviously Don Nelson sees a lot more in the rest of Jack's game than I do, to put up with this.  Or maybe it's just part of Nelson's love of deliberately making it harder for his teams to win then it ever should be.  But watching Jackson's nightly comedy routine is quickly becoming not fun.

I'm joining the legions of frustrated Warrior fans who say, "If we're gonna lose, let's lose with the kids on the floor."  And as long as Jackson is the "best player on the Warriors" (and Rowell seems determined to make that a lot longer than many of us hoped, with a mind bogglingly stupid contract extension)  we're gonna lose.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

"Without a traditional big center"

What? Why isn’t Biedrins a traditional big center?

by greala on Nov 3, 2008 8:42 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Biedrins,

i the best thing we got going on. Unfortunetly our coach just doesnt like using centers.

Your last paragraph summed up how I feel. Nellie also insists on using Maggette, Al(I have no reason why) and Jack play 40-48 mins a game and basically have no acountability. Even if Monta Ellis somehow turns in to Allen Iverson at his prime when he comes back, we are not making playoffs this year(or atleast being a factor in the west) and we are amazingly we arent playing our young guysto prepare for the future. And the icing on the cake is the Jack extension so we can throw away the possibility of cap flexibility in the big summer 2 years from now….

Ellis to the rim.

Why isn’t Biedrins a traditional big center?

Cause he is not bull enough to play back to the basket, can’t back em down and create his own shot , which he couldn’t make anyway if it was more than 5 feet. He’s a unique player with good movement for a big guy but far from a traditional center.

That is a pretty good answer

I think Biendrins can do a little bit more, but I don’t disagree with your overall views.

bieds

is basically a pf that cant shoot for his life. if he was a traditonal center he would of been a really strong post player.

So I don't have a signature well these words would do! Who knew that upgrades can have downgrades too!

"Traditional" or not

In terms of his contributions to winning, he’s a Top 10 NBA center, possibly Top 5 given his age and the rate he’s improving.

I still think AB’s blossoming from raw kid to elite rebounding center sometime in 2006 is the underrated factor — up there with the Jackson trade and the arrival of Nellie — in the transformation of this team from perennial losers to force to be reckoned with.

It’s amazing to me that thare are people who still don’t see what a special player this kid is. Salaries aside, I wouldn’t trade him for any of the ex-Ws we still moon over: JRich, Baron, Arenas, or Jamison. Given the rarity of talented big men and our glut of shooters and scorers, I’m not even sure I would trade him for all four of those guys.

Anyway, nice to see you finally coming around, Skep. ;-)

Yes

Unless Monta gets the majority of the ball handling upon his return. Why are people convinced Jackson is a proven scorer? The warriors system is responsible for his offensive numbers. That does not make him a proven “go to guy”

Of course everybody not named Biedrins played like garbage. They must have been doing their best oakland raiders impression

gots to agree

I’m tired of watching Jackson jack 3 ball after 3 ball while mixing in a turnover here and a turnover there. if Rowell and Co are seriously considering extending him, it’s just crazy. he’s getting old and he’s not something to build off of. if we were going to give the money to anyone, it should have been Baron, but Rowell decided to veto that deal.

Honestly

Jack is our only playmaker. Although not great, he is our first and last option. When the shot clock is winding down, nobody wants to take the shot, everybody looks for Jack. Who else on our team can actually run the pick’n’roll effectively? Who is our most versatile player on both ends? Unless we bring in somebody via trade, it’s Jack. Although, he may not be a superstar there is no denying he is one of the better players in the league. How you gonna throw our best player under the bus?

thank you

co-sign with this post completely – id like to see more williams but i trust nellie and despite jack being a sorta poor handler – hes got decent (if even narcassitic) court vision, and he can make a good pass when he wants too

about the extension – the pay theyre offering him is nice for a medium-rare “core-franchise” player, but on a team with a big market!, and gsw isnt the biggest market around so idk, id offer him a little lower

regardless i will be very sad to see jackson leave this franchise if he ever does (knock on wood) and him “flinging his arms up in disgust at the refs "missed foul” then running after the player who picked him, and whacking or grabbing that player from behind in a fit of frustration." is awsome and i love it and its a great edge fuck the haters

Yeah, I’d enjoy having Jax on my side if I was playing the away games, I like the way he stands up for the team in hostile environments. and he’s not afraid to pick up a guy he just fouled and pat him on the head and say he’s sorry.

unless we go like 10-25 and Nellie officially quits on the season,

Jackson is likely to be in the running. He has stiff competition in Dwyane Wade who has led the league the last 2 yrs with almost four and a half TO’s a game he was also 2nd 3 yrs ago to Agent Zero.

if the W’s stay competitive, Jackson has a chance. after tonight, he’s past bron and only behind melo right now.

dooooood

no monta + hurt corey = shitty warriors

jax should reduce dribbling at all costs.

by Foulacy on Nov 3, 2008 10:28 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

huh

could we trade his turnover for a 1st pick or an upcoming star? I know no one in the league want him.

by warriorfan4life on Nov 3, 2008 10:45 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

i'd say let marcus get a chance

i’d also like to see Corey with the ball more. Jax is a great 2nd or 3rd option for this team but when he becomes the number one guy it will be hard to win alot of ball games because he is a 40 percent shooter who is streaky. When he is on there is no stopping him but that is 20 percent of the time which is when he can be the first option. But when he is playing okay in his standards then he should be the 2nd or 3rd option. Then the 40 percent of the time where he cant throw a ball in the sea he still cant be the first option. Nelson has to realize when to give him the ball and when to rest him and let others do more.

by montadaboss on Nov 3, 2008 11:16 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

i think that by the time monta gets back

jax will not only be leading the league in to’s and he will have a commanding lead. i dont understand why nellie doesnt hold everybody accountable for poor play. especialy after stinkers like last night. it’s like it doesnt matter how bad certain players play he will still keep them in there no matter what. unless they are hung over from they’re b-day party from the night before.

be the change you wish to see in the world.

Nellie seems to hate missed defensive assignments more than erroneous play

that was his problem with POB (even w/ the Celtics, as Doc Rivers put it, “there’s Celtics speed and then there’s POB speed” ) and he got livid when Marco appeared to see “something shiny” as Lepper put it and left his assignment to go chase whatever he was running towards back in the 2nd quarter.

it’s just mind boggling how stupid these guys are. it’s not like these plays, rotations or whatever you want to call them are that hard. i don’t understand how they can fail those quizzes they take. demarcus, cj and kurz seemed to figure them out relatively quickly. at least Marco has the language excuse. still, i’m guessing it’s nowhere near as complicated as what is seen in football.

I Love SJax, but...

Yes, he may lead the NBA in turn overs if Monta doesn’t get back soon!

by gabezgsw on Nov 4, 2008 9:20 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Yeah right...

D – Wade has that covered.

by sjboy on Nov 4, 2008 4:45 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

but

Dwade could still put up 25/7/5 on given night. All action jackson doesn’t is jacks up stupid ass 3’s which he hit 30% of them if he lucky. haha

Jackson

Is the shizzle, and as soon as you come to terms with that, you will be a much happier person in life.

He does no wrong, he is a Warrior God. Period!
