CHANGE!!! Either Nelly adjusts his coaching... or Warriors need a legit PG
Nelly has been considered a God in Warrior land for the past two years because he enabled athletic players to utilize their abilitys on the fast breaks, and in one and one situations.
This year he is still trying to utilize this same style of offense with a team that lacks quickness and athletic ability. PUT IN SOME PLAYS for late game situations. Pick n rolls, Give n goes... something. A one on one setup every time down the court makes players without the ball lazy and stagnant within the offense. If Nelly installed a type of constant motion offense, players would feel the need to be active w/o the ball. This would free up players constantly (with ball movement), and enable much easier scoring opportunities.
The problem? It's too late. Nelly should have implimented this offense in the preseason as soon as Monta went down.
The solution? Play the young guys (especially Randolph) and trade Harrington for a point guard. I hate to say this... but trading Harrington to either the Knicks or the Pacers for either Marbury or Tinsley would drastically improve the Warriors. The Warriors are desperate for a scoring threat at point guard. DeMarcus is a fine, solid player... but not even close to a threat. We need someone who will push the ball up the floor (even after an opponent score), and force the defense to collapse. If the defense collapses, dish it out.... if not.... take it to the rim and score. Marbury and Tinsley (but especially Marbury) have proven they can do that.
Yes... Monta is the PERFECT fit for this position, and once he gets back, Warriors will have an impressive, explosive, high powered offense once again. But until then, a legit PG is in desperate need.
Now don't quote me as saying I want Marbury or Tinsley. They bring much more (not in a good way) in addition to an ability to score. And in the long run, they might do more damage than good. So take it for what it is.
Reality? As Obama has stated time and again... Change!!! Change is in the air, and is a must if the Warriors want to keep afloat until Monta returns.
What is the biggest change the Warriors need, and where?

well you can probably download some Nets games via torrent from last year.
i’m afraid that’s the only way you’re going to see him.

So I don't have a signature well these words would do! Who knew that upgrades can have downgrades too!

well apparently our rookies sans DeMarcus Nelson are so slow learning sets
that Nellie had to spend most of training camp on defense and was unable to implement much of the offense. the China trip probably didn’t help.
according to Mike Fratello on the Nets broadcast, Marcus Williams still hasn’t figured out what little they’ve implemented and said he was told that Marcus is lackadaisical on defense.
it’s gonna be a long season… i say the over under on Nellie giving up on the season and playing the kids is game 32.

I don't even like DeMarcus Nelson to be honest.
I think he’s a good third pg option. But your starting PG?!?! Come on don’t bring me that BS. He and CJ can’t run the offense worth pennies. The ball movement was terrible. No penetration. All jump shots. Why, oh why is Al and Corey in the game when they’re shooting sub 40% combined? Bring in someone…ANYONE else and see what they can do.

hes not starting pg caliber because hes not...
What to do when your star point guard gets injured.. play the backup pgs.. nelson and cj are all we got.. so theres nothing we can really do about it besides playing jax at pg.
I thought the problem was mainly from tJax, Tmnt, Maggs.. 3 ball hogs, throwing up contested shots left and right.

Well
Marcus Williams is an official bust. Keepin’ it real isnt happening in Oakland, so the excuse of playing under Jason Kidd is out the window, and people passing him up in the draft because of attitude concerns ( He robbed a bunch of laptops ) was true, because everytime I see that guy on the sidelines it reminds me of a kid at McDonalds who didnt get his Happy Meal!

“Don Nelsons Coaching” and by that i mean play the youngsters more.

Definetly
Don Nelson coaching, anyone who put Harrington needs to be shot in the face with reality!
To put it simply, if Harrinton played this way with ANY OTHER COACH in the NBA, I guarantee he would not play over 30 minutes.
BUT Then again if he didn’t play so many minutes he wouldn’t have games like last night.
Is his crappy play his fault? YES! But it’s the coaches J-O-B to take him out and stop the bleeding!

true, but i'm curious, in Nellie's 30+ years coaching, has a blacklisted player ever turned out to be a good player?
i don’t remember hearing about one in dallas and i was a little kid during nellie’s 1st tenure, so i don’t really recall a lot from it.

troy murphy played a decent amount while on the warriors and nelson only coached him for half a season. terrible example. and troy murphy sucks anyway, he’s the type of player that puts up statistics but doesn’t help a team win in any way

plus Murphy was hindered that year with a sore heel.
and agreed 26 mpg in a year that Andris emerged isn’t exactly blacklisted.
Troy’s like Al. isn’t a Nellie fave, but wasn’t blacklisted either.

Once Nelson
comes to grips with the realities of this season, we’ve lost monta for pretty much the whole season, we can’t run a 7 man rotation and win, WE’RE NOT MAKING THE PLAYOFFS, he’ll start the rebuilding so we can judge what we’ve got.
by KeepdaCore on Nov 4, 2008 1:51 AM PST reply actions 0 recs
since when were we running a 7 man rotation?
i understand game 1… because it was really close all the way, and it was the season home opener…. but when were we running a 7 man rotation??
by Jollibee415 on Nov 4, 2008 2:01 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I thought we were deep.
One of the praises I had for the warriors preseason was their depth. But now that Bwright and belli are out of the lineup… our biggest weakness (once again) is depth. Play the youngsters!!! Please!!! If they play well, great…. our rotation expands. If not, at least we know.
Hopefully Mully lays down some sort of hammer, and talks Nelly into letting loose a little. If this doesn’t happen, not only will we have no idea about the youngsters potential… but we will have run our best players into the ground. Piss Poor Nelly!
by Gurthy on Nov 4, 2008 2:06 AM PST reply actions 0 recs
for all of you guys that are talking about giving up and just letting the young ones play
what kind of organization would start the season in tank mode.. especially after filling most of their seats the previous 2 years.
What about for the loyal season ticket holders who paid the 25% increase in ticket prices to actually go out to these games.
All of you bandwagon fans that didnt see 4 different rebuilding era’s need to calm down. Once you see a really bad coach, which we had plenty of… then you will realize how great Nelly is.
Im pretty sure the young guys will get alot more pt.. just give it a lil time.. and a lot of losing. I personally want to see the Warriors remain strong and stay competitive…

But you can't say that Nelson is running the starting 5 into the ground.
You all know that the high energy required cannot be sustained if each starter is logging 40+ minutes.

And who said anything about giving up
I say give the players a chance at least to show what they can do.Of course they suck right now, they play 2-3 minutes every third game. They must feel like crap without any self esteem. That’s the way Nellie is destroying the players mentaly. Both Wright and Marco are gone IMO and what can we get in return for them? NOTHING because who wants to give something for someone who does not play any minutes.
by buky on Nov 4, 2008 4:07 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Sorry to hurt your feelings...
Calm Down! why cant u be a little patient and see how the season rides out…. If these players got self esteem issues.. they shouldnt be playing basketball at a professional level. Putting in Marco and Wright isnt going to make them feel more manly, it will just cause weaknesses in our already weak defense.
by Jollibee415 on Nov 4, 2008 10:16 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Confidence is a huge part of young players development
Don’t just throw the mental part of basketball away. It is important for young players to feel comfortable with the system and coach, otherwise they will not play up to their potential and they will play timid, hoping not to make a mistake.

Anthony Randolph
looked like he wanted to cry when he got put in the game with one minute left. I bet half of the bench players want to get traded along with Al Harrington so that way they get some decent playing time else where.

… or Warriors need a legit PG?
That’s the funniest thing I’ve read all day. Are you kidding me? We lose Baron and Monta and you ask if we need a PG? Hmm, if it isn’t blatantly obvious. I guarantee that if BD and Monta were around, this post would never exist. My question, why did this fanpost even get posted?
by gabezgsw on Nov 4, 2008 9:30 AM PST reply actions 0 recs
Could be obvious
But whats worse. Nellys coaching, or the PG problem, or Harrington, or….? It’s obviously bigger than just the PG doosh!

PG
WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!! U “douche.”
by SPREEE4THREEE on Nov 4, 2008 11:11 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
No, its that we have no PG
Look, I may have come off a little harsh. Still a little bitter we lost to arguably the worst team in the NBA, but calling me a doosh or as the French say douche is as old as last weeks pizza.
No, the Dubs issues are about our lack of a proven PG. We lost the top 3 or 4 PG in the entire NBA and you wonder if Nellie or Al is the issue? Come on. Our answer to no BD is Monta and the guy is going to be gone till Jan of 2009.
I think people really haven’t figured out that BD was the heart and sole, the QB, the catalyst if you will of the Dubs. He made things happen. Not Corey Mag’s, SJax or Andris. The Dubs answer right now is to have someone who can lead the team in a more customary fashion i.e. have a proven PG. Not CJ, not rookie DeMarcus or Mr. Williams from NJ. We have all the other pieces right now(to be in the 7th or 8th spot) with Turriaf and our young’ins, which Nellie will play sooner than later, but the one thing missing is the motor that drives the car…A proven PG, one of the hardest things to come by in the NBA.
Doosh…LOL

by pervisNeverNervous on Nov 4, 2008 4:17 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Nah... your totally right
A PG was obviously the biggest thing to plague the Dubs since the Baron and Monta loss. But to loose badly to a crap Memphis team can be related to much more than a lack of PG, or so I was thinking.
As you stated… the Memphis loss hurt emotionally real bad. It made me rethink Nelly’s coaching direction, and Al’s contribution as a 35+ minute player. But in all realism… the biggest problem is NO MONTA.
It doesn’t mean Nelly and Harrington fixes can’t change our fortune of getting dominated by horrible teams. Small fixes can help our cause, even w/o a PG. And that’s what this post was about.
Isn’t Douche a flavor of pudding. ;)

how bout starbury?
how about al to the knicks for starbury and a draft pick…i mean sure he has a troubled past but didn’t jax and now he’s our captain! get knicks to pay for like half his salary works out for both teams…

absolutely NOT
Marbury is a cancer to any locker room and would day much more harm than good, no matter how many points he puts up per night.

Marbury
Isn’t a cancer. He didn’t like Larry or Isiah, but not many players do…. If the Knicks picked up half of his salary i’d love to see him here because he’s just a rental that we could dump away at the end of the season. Stephen Jackson & Artest were considered cancers. Jack, well we know about that & Artest is as quiet as a baby sleeping in Houston. Marbury isn’t even complaining in NY, he knows how to run & he’s a vet…. Nelly could play him as soon as he gets off the plane. But only trade for Marbury if they pick up half the salary & we get rid of Harrington

Yeah, He’d be our Manny Ramirez. If the Knicks want him out bad enough to pay half his salary it would be a no brainer to grab him if we can come up with a deal they like.

before anyone posts any more trades with no regard to the cap.
we don’t need harrington for marbury. we just need the knicks to buy him out. but marbury would rather sit the bench and get paid all his money than accept less money for a buyout and go play.
“I signed the contract, and in the contract it says this is how much money I’m going to make this year,” he said.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/dailydime?page=dime-081102
“He isn’t inclined to accept 80 cents on the dollar,” Hunter said. “Our principal role is to make sure he gets paid.”
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3681940
Marbury can still play (on offense), but the above statements kind of emphasize what JustSomeName posted.

till nelson leaves we’ll be a lottery team. I don’t care how many win the guys has, how many rings does he have.
If he doesn’t give up this bullshit excuse of a gameplan and start playing basketball then please god help us. Oh it’s fun to watch, except for when we jack up 3’s all night. I’d love to see a play runned. We can complain about the PG situation and the Al harrington. Hell we could have CP3 and KG and we’d still lose.
we got a good enough team. Lots of young talent. And theres going to be someone to comment with “oh your just a fan, you don’t know what your talking about.” I have common sense.
Nellie hasn’t won in this system. 1280 wins no finals appearences. 1976 is when he started. he’s had some great players on his side.
