OT: J-Rich traded to Phoenix

AZcentral.com is reporting that the trade is J-Rich, Jared Dudley, and a 2010 2nd roudner for Raja Bell, Boris Diaw, and Sean Singletary

http://www.azcentral.com/sports/suns/articles/2008/12/10/20081210sunstradeonline.htmlHere's the link

Star-divide

I for one am sort of shocked for both teams. A Nash/J-Rich backcourt will certainly be interesting, but the Suns' long-term big man depth is now much shakier, especially if you consider the possibility of Amare leaving in 2010 is very real.

As for our former compadre, I think Jason is in a better place. Phoenix is a nice city, and he gets to play with Mr. Nash for the next season and a half (at least), which should work very well.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Fantasy revival for JR!

Hasheem "The Dream" Thabeet or Brandon Jennings. A Warrior in 09.
With the 6th Pick in the 2009 MLB Draft, the SF Giants pick Donovan Tate.
Andre Smith in Silver & Black in 2009.

Hell yea. I hope he tears it up in Phoenix. That team will play even less defense now though.

damnnn..

at first i didnt even believe this.

by GSwarrior on Dec 10, 2008 3:25 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I didn't believe it either

Until AZcentral posted it, I was in total shock.

The Bobcats are officially the worst-run team in the NBA, from passing on Brandon Roy for Morrison to passing on Brook Lopez for Augustin with Felton still on roster to this.

In effect, the Bobcats traded away the #8 and #22 picks in the 2007 draft for Diaw, Bell, and Singletary, which is borderline offensive.

by dprodigy19 on Dec 10, 2008 3:28 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Augustin? he looks solid so far.

by sam23 on Dec 10, 2008 3:39 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I like Augustin

But when you have the chance to lock up your front-court, you do it.

The other problem with the Augusin pick is that they have Ray Felton too- it killed his trade value and they don’t play that well together. I like Augustin fine, but the pick made no sense.

by dprodigy19 on Dec 10, 2008 3:43 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Felton has looked really good at the 2, which I assume is part of what prompted this deal.

by sam23 on Dec 10, 2008 3:44 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Is that a good thing?

Felton should not be playing the two, especially since hes a horrible shooter, plus that doesnt really make sense to say he looks so good at the 2 that this prompted the trade because they got a 2 right back in Raja Bell. The trade doesnt make much sense for the Bobcats.

by pbra17 on Dec 10, 2008 4:08 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

oh I’m not saying it was a good trade for them at all.

I think Minnesota can make a run for that title too…as long as McHale is ruining..i mean running things.

Warriors, Stupidest franchise in the league.

by kenntoe on Dec 10, 2008 4:37 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I actually really like Minnesota

If they add a C that is a defensive guy (think Turiaf, but better- Perkins could work…), they’ve got something.

Love is going to be a very good player, Jefferson is a stud, Foye, Gomes, Telfair and Craig Smith are contributors, and they’ve got the resources (4 first round picks in the next 2 years) to get the rest together.

Bad trade for PHO

I love my man JRich for sure, but PHO is losing two aces for themselves Diaw and Raja Bell are big pieces to the way they work. It’s effectively equal to the Shaq trade in that now PHO is shaky again and has to get used to another way of playing, with another person.

+1 Nash/JRich/Barnes/Amare/Shaq

INash/JRich/Barnes/Amare/Shaq
is pretty nice but they don’t have a lock down defender anymore in Raja and a pretty versitle Diaw… This seems like the run and gun suns but they will be pretty weak off the bench with only Barbosa/Dudley/Grant

diaw and bell are overrated anyways

i’ve talked to hella suns fans, they don’t even mind getting rid of them. suns got swagger now. it’s just that they need more bench production now.

by Five Ten Entertainment on Dec 10, 2008 4:51 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

yea, I've been thinking about it

and you are probably right. Still bench role players play a big part of teams that want to make championship runs. Look at the Celtics, andd look at the Lakers for one. That’s why Posey was paid so much to be in New Orleans, then again look at how that turned out.

Wow.

Not to get people all riled up, but if Charlotte took that pile of stuff, you have wonder if they would have been at all tempted by a package involving Maggette, Jack, or Harrington.

Meanwhile, DProd, how is this “OT”??? Last I checked, Jason Richardson had been discussed a couple of times on this blog… :-O

I have more faith in my party than to throw her up there at the top of the ticket in 2012 unless she can beef up her resume and qualifications significantly over the next couple years. I’m confident you’ll be seeing Jindal (please, oh please!) Pawlenty or some relative unknown emerge from the next Republican primary, not Palin. However, I think that particular incident youre referring to is totally irrelevant. Congrats to Obama by the way, best campaign by Democrat since…..well, ever.

by Zack Vank on Dec 12, 2008 10:53 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

It's really just a personal thing

I can’t really say if Jindal would be any worse than any other Republican.

But it’s sort of like my extreme disappointment when Obama became the first person of color to be elected President of the US of A. I and many other people of color dreamed for years the first p.o.c. in the oval office would be some real deal progressive, conscious cat, not another status quo moderate (look at his cabinet picks) who essentially won because he’s a phenomenal motivational speaker. Hopefully Obama proves my crazy McKinney-Clemente voting self wrong.

Same logic for Jindal. How does the first brown man to run for office come from the right not the left?

by sam23 on Dec 10, 2008 3:42 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Looking at Blake and Rudy so far, Portland should TRADE Bayless, along with LaFrentz and possibly Webster/Outlaw for a big piece to make them a title contender.

by sam23 on Dec 10, 2008 3:46 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

That's definately an idea

I advocated on Blazers Edge that they trade Outlaw, Webster, one of the PG’s, and Frye for Rudy Gay.

Some of them liked the same trade for T. Prince, and that would work too.

Go J-Rich!

Now he gets to show the NBA how good he really is and get some recognition. He gets to go back to the playoffs and be a beast with the Suns. They are without a doubt going to be the funnest team to watch in the NBA. Nash/J-Rich/Barnes adn Hill/Amare/Shaq. Definitley my second favorite team in the NBA.

by duballers23 on Dec 10, 2008 4:27 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

As somebody...

…who never liked Richardson’s game that much, I will concede that the Suns are going to be much better. Raja Bell maxed out his abilities and wasn’t going to push them any higher, and Diaw seemed like a rather listless player at times. For al the talk of Richardson’s knees, it doesn’t seem like he’s any less explosive than he used to be. Maybe he’s not as good a contest dunker, but he can do everything he need to. That said, I’ll be rooting against them. I never root for Shaq.

I think...

…his victimization is a bit overplayed. Not on his behalf, since he’s never been one to complain, but people act as if he was backstabbed because it had been said they wouldn’t trade him. I can’t think of many trades of the nature in which the team doesn’t overstate value to try to maximize returns. Richardson’s not a fool, I’m sure he realizes this.

by Zack Vank on Dec 11, 2008 5:13 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I think...

there’s a legit argument for JRich having a major gripe with Dub’s management for bouncing him. He was one of the few players on that roster that played thru the lean years of GSW. He gave his heart to a team that toiled in the basement. If anyone deserved to return to the team the next season to finally enjoy an upswing with the club it was Jrich. Who can you honestly say was more elated than him to finally see the Warriors enjoy that success and then look forward to continuing that in the upcoming season? Now after you imagine how great that must’ve felt for him… imagine getting shoved back into the toilet.

I pray i never have to use a gun again...

...unless i'm at a strip club parking lot...

...and somebody tries to run me over with their car...

by ssmokinjoe on Dec 11, 2008 11:23 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I'm not arguing...

…that it must have been an unpleasant, depressing feeling. But I don’t think it’s all that dissimilar from a lot of NBA deals that go down. If the Warriors had a better organizational track record, I think it wouldn’t seem to reflect as poorly, Richardson’s undeniable charisma and hustle aside.

J. Rich : Warrior for life

Best of luck to J. Rich, one of my all time favorite warriors ever. I gotta admit i miss the hell out of this guy. He was the heart and soul of our locker room and he came to play every night (even if some nights, his shot was off). He still came out and gave it his all. If you ask me who the winner was in this trade, I’d tell you it was the Suns. They’re getting a potent scorer in Jason Richardson and another good player in Jared Dudley. If you’ve watched him against the Warriors in the past, this guy can play. Of course, he was going up against zero warrior defense when i really seen this guy in action but that’s beside the point. J. Rich is the key to this trade. Yes, Phoenix had to get rid of 2 key players in Bell and Diaw but let’s face it, Diaw wasn’t performing as well as people thought he would. He was getting paid way too much to be a role player. Bell, on the other hand, will be a player that will be sorely missed. You can compare him to J. Rich in a sense that he was as passionate and intense on the floor, just less talented than J. Rich. Jason Richardson is an extremely versatile player and with Nash running the point, i feel his numbers will increse because he won’t have to create for himself as much. With defenses focusing on Stoudemire most of the time, Jason will have less pressure on him and his game will just flow. He already played on a team primarily known for running (The dubs) so that shouldn’t be an issue at all. This guys gonna bring a whole new element to that suns team on both sides of the basketball. He’ll bring more intensity on defense and give another scoring option for Nash to pass to. Jason could shoot the ball pretty well and will just add another explosive player along side Amare. If i had to root for any team in the West to win a championship this year besides the Warriors, I’d have to say i’d choose the Suns. I always loved the way Nash played the game and as for Amare, what can you say about the guy? This guy is just talented and can find ways to score at will. Simply put : He’s a beast! Good luck J. Rich!

Suns?

Went and read a few comments on the Suns blog and have to say I’m not sure those people deserve Jason, they don’t appreciate what they are getting, about half of them were complaining about the trade as bad as Warriors fans complaining about Marco’s lack of playing time ;>)

Jason

Had a nice alleyopp dunk in his first game and scored 21 IIRC. Now maybe the Suns fans will give him the welcome he deserves?
