A team of redundancy..

Watching these games get progressively worse, with my fanhood not waivering is PAINFUL. Analyzing all the front office mistakes and wondering why is guy like nellie with 45 plus years of nba experience is either mindblowingly stubborn (which is the undoubted concensus) or just plain retarded. For the record, I am fond of the style he plays and the ONCE IN  WHILE genius he exudes (stephen and baron killing dirk defensively in 07 playoffs) but this god awful defense is atrocious (dont care to lookup spelling). I recently ran down the roster and asked myself these very relavent questions..

- When you are stealing buike for 3 million capable of scoring, why spend 50 over 5 years for maggette. i read in an earlier post the "bukie and maggette looking like brothers out there" and dude is right on point. within an inch of the same height. both stout with cannons for biceps and both cannot pass for s*%^!.

10 MILLION PER WASTED

-2 consecutive years,2 lottery picks, 2 left handed, light in the ass, 6'9/6'10 extremely young wet behind the ears players. while these guys are completely different players OFFENSIVELY they are the same player DEFENSIVELY. get blocks and start the break. disturb shots with their length and unfortunately get punked on a nightly basis by the nene, zach's, goodens, and millsaps of the league. while one could be marcus camby and the other be lamar odom and based off what ive see so far, id keep randolph if i had to get rid of one

LOTTERY PICK NOT MAXIMIZED

-Morrow/kurz/DNelson

I admit it, after morrows second game i was ready to sell marco for 2 cents on the dollar but that was a bit premature. maybe i should be comparing belli and morrow forthe sake of redundancy but i call these 3 out together because these guys are D-LEAGUE PLAYERS. period! i dont mind give guys like this a shot one roster spot per year (morrow this year) but anything more and we basically got a ncaa d1 team out there. weve had some crazy steals over recent years but i think the front office along with nellie are feeling themselves a bit too much here with these guys getting way too many mintues without legitamite nba talent or potential for the tick they getting. I would hope that if we are goingto trot D-League talent out there that their strengths fill a NEED on the team like i dont know......HENDRIX! someone please tell me why 3 guys who went undrafted whom none of have what we need are getting burn over our 2nd round pick??

-Roster spots wasted

Ronny, Ronny, Ronny

I thought we were getting a steal with this guy but didnt realize his weakness til i saw him play on a nightly basis. DONT GET ME WRONG. I LOVE THE GUY AND AT 4 MIL he will never be a detriment to this team. but if he had something more to compliment his dunks and 15 footer then he would be the guy were looking for but as it stands it really depends on who were playing and game situations for him to be playing. something puzzling about him that i have yet to come to a conclusion about is his blks per game/minutes on the floor vs rebounds. EXCEPTIONAL shot blocker but does it hurt his rebounding game?? for a while there he was averaging more blocks than rebounds which has recently changed to slightly edge rebounds and if its truely because his on the ball and help defense are taking him out of position then im ok with it but looking at the stat sheet i am disappointed with his rebounding totals. Hope he improves..

I seriously dont mind losing right now as much as it frustrates me bleeding into other parts of my life if there is a light at the end of the tunnel. i say sit sjax and maggette til monta comes back. what isthere to gain? this season is lost. why try to win when we are getting our ass kicked on a nightly basis still paying a hurt jax and maggette. sit these black holes until were are ready to make a serious run, or finally ready to find some team chemistry and an improved lottery pick. in the mean time, find a solid role player / star within one of the yound guys (marco, marcus, randolph, hendrix, morrow)

the team seriously needs to find some direction by the feb trade deadline. i love jamal's game and when the rest of the team comes together jamal will be a dynamite player but he has been lost in our turmoil as of late. TRADE maggette and package him with some of this redundacy for something we can use since the cap space he would have given up to solve our problems is GONE. if it was up to me i would send corey, wright, and maybe even morrow if he got any value for anything expiring, decent wing with a defensive mind set, a bruiser/enforcer with decent high post game or a combination of the 3. REALISTIC PLAYERS that come to mind that are on my wishlist are:

D.Gooden or nocioni, Rwallace,Kaman,Bmiller,Darko w/buckner, landry or scola, oberto w/udoka.

players like buckner or trenton hassell do not have the talent based our young players have but we really need one of those vets to tech the young guys and come out there sacrafice for the team and add some experience to this squad on a reasonably cheap contract.

UNfortunatley for us when maggette becomes tradable on monday there are only a handful of team who may have interest. wings are not hard to come by in this league and when people mention trade with him you have to be realistic. san antonio, toronto, orlando, and the clips have a need. of those teams only kaman and bowen or udoka are realistic players this team needs. lol maybe petrius too.i like jermaine but we dont have enough to give in return that im willing to sacrafice for him. but id dump his ass for nesterovic im so eager to get rid of him. dont get me wrong, nice player with a mean midrage when he gets hot and awesome foul shooter but i HAVE never seen a black hole quite like him before. or maybe just never on the warriors scrutinizing his every move. but maggette has the worst tunnel vision ive ever seen in a nba game and watching morrow and jamal shrug in disbelief a few games ago was so disappointing it was funny. i think it was portland he missed a shot badly and the rebound came back directly to him. had jamal and morrow both for wide open 3's to his left and was so narrow minded he jacked up another brick with both jamal and morrow looking at nelson like WTF? this one scene told me everything i needed to know about our team chemistry with corey out there. TRADE HIS ASS!!

if you think about it, how must corey feel right now?

i think this team just needs someone to light a fire under them, and I mean that it the meanest way. they set the weakest screens i’ve ever seen and they honestly dont try. sissie little girls box out better.

team of redundancy..

yup, almost everyone on this team is a horrible defender.

hold the phone..

i stopped skimming your post after you started bashing turiaf.. uncalled for. he’s one of, if not the most positive things i’ve seen come of the warriors this season.

sure we have a bunch of role players on the team, but this man is the role player of role players. the warriors entire offense (or lack there of) and dare i say defense (again, or lack there of), feeds off energy; and that’s the number one thing ronny brings to the table. dude is always dancing, hollering, waving towels, rooting on his teammates.. along with kurz and morrow, ronny is ALWAYS the first one off the bench to slap hands with another player going into a timeout.

you say he doesn’t rebound enough and one could also say he fouls a lot, but i say that’s kinda his job- layin down the law against the big men in the league no one else on our team can handle. as a direct example, the first rockets game on 12/5- turiaf limited yao to minimal efficiency in the first half. he provided a big body and pretty effective D in the middle that our next beefiest body, sadly kurz, shouldn’t be required to handle. shutting down yao allowed for (assumingly) more rebounds for other players on our team. that didn’t necessarily happen, but hopefully you get the concept i’m chasing after. once turiaf fouled out from one too many beatings courtesy of mighty ming, you know the rest.. 30+ point half.

call me crazy, but i respect turiaf a lot for the effort he’s put out this season trying to make our lackluster team that much better.

by freun989 on Dec 13, 2008 11:51 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

turiaf is awesome

i hope he’s around when we start winning some games in the future. he isn’t the best rebounder as he tends to tip the ball around a lot but it’s ok.

No Doubt

I love this guy. Sign him and keep him here til he retires. I can’t imagine this team w/o turiaf (Well i just did… 2 blow out losses in a row).

He gives us effort, and that’s something that is hard to come by for the Warriors these days. Imagine if all of our players actually TRIED to do the right thing. We’d be looking at a .500 record.

I LOVE THE GUY AND AT 4 MIL he will never be a detriment to this team.

i love what we get for 4 mill but he could be soo much more if he refined his post game. and was simply wondering why his rebound totals are more when he a solid defender through and through?? as fans we wouldnt be shopping for a PF if he bumped his rebounding and had a post move or too. NO COMPLAINTS about him as a captain A LEADER, OR HIS EFFORT. NEVER that!!

Turiaf

is one of our best players! I totally agree with you, he is one of my favorite players on them team and he deserves to be a captain! I hope he comes back soon!

i dont get these whiners

if anyone has followed the warriors for at least 10 years, you should be used to this kind of sub mediocre team. Why whine? because you tasted a piece of heaven one year and you were hoping to win the championship the next? HELLOOOOOO!!!

warriors dont fish they hunt!

Its different

This team has much more Talent compared to any of the teams in the 13 year playoff drought. And thats why we expect more from this bunch

by Gurthy on Dec 14, 2008 1:25 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

hohoho...

I say we lack Talent actually, if you have all guards, and no rebounds, this is the end result.

What? Line up of Gilbert , JRich , Antoine, Murphy, and Dampier could kick this teams ass.

I hate when people say...

‘the season is lost, why try to win?’

Because despite your record, your players, or your troubles, you always try to win. That’s what the game is all about. We have too many youngsters to teach them that tanking is an option.

I pray i never have to use a gun again...

...unless i'm at a strip club parking lot...

...and somebody tries to run me over with their car...

...But how often does that happen??

by ssmokinjoe on Dec 14, 2008 3:00 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

misunderstood..

i dont condone blatantly tanking but why not sit our injured “stars” til they are all healthy and MAXIMIZE this season that PROBABLY wont result in a playoff birth with giving young guys minutes, and bring them all back when were actually trying to get some team chemistry and have solidified our lottery pick while letting our young guys learn to compete (not tank) in the meantime??

A team of redundancy..

Ok , so how do we fix it? Crawford and Montay are two similiar so get rid of one. Kelena is too much like Magette so out he goes. Morrow is a much better shooter than Belinili so bye bye Marco. Rudolf is a keeper, Wright is too weak to be a powerforward so best he packs his bags. Dris is worth more to us than to anyone else so we’re stuck with him. Rony is cheap and entertaining so he’s in. Jax is the experience and glue .
Now what don’t we have? A great point guard and a powerfull forward? Could we turn either Montay or crawford plus Kelena, Wright and Marco into these?
   Haha, looks like we’re screwed??

Randolph hasn’t shown he can get his shot to drop and turns the ball over at a greater rate than anyone else on the squad. He could improve in both areas, but he’ll have to improve a bunch in both areas to be a ‘keeper.’ Belinelli at this point is shooting the ball better than Morrow. Small enough sample size such that it’s difficult to really tell if one is better than the other.

Jax as glue? Seems like the team is falling apart and his solution to holding it together is to shoot shoot shoot.

by jae on Dec 14, 2008 2:08 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

the "keepers"

Hi jae, Rudolf’s hustle and lack of fear have convinced me that’s he’s gonna be above average. He has a NOSE for the ball and seems to be well focused and pretty strong fundamentally.
The reason I choose Morrow over Marco is that Morrow is a natural while Marco is working too hard to be just average. Morrow has a textbook shot, great court instincts, very cool under pressure, and very willing to play a team role. Marco seems to make things harder than they need to be, off balance shots, risky passes, deadend routes, etc.
Jax is having a rough time right now but he’s still the most experienced and passionate player we have and we’ll be better with him than without . Jax doesn’t need to be a superstar , he can do a lot of good things in about 35 minutes and inspire the youngsters to get tougher.

Prior to last season, there was no reason to believe that Jax was a ‘glue guy’ that he was much more (or less) than an average NBA player. I think that some serendipitous chances made many believe he was much more than that. I think we’re seeing him playing below where he can, but expecting him to be the player many thought him to be last year is unwarranted.

The interesting thing about Jax inspiring the youngsters is that it hasn’t been the youngsters who seem to be lacking toughness so much as it is the older players, Jax specifically included, who have shown habitual lack of effort.

by jae on Dec 14, 2008 3:38 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Kids will show effort for about 10 minutes but it takes an older guy to show them how to keep it up all day. or all season in basketball terms.

agree

plus playing with that bad hand for so many games shows me the complete opposite of lack of effort. most players in the league would be in street clothes if they had the same injury.

I almost stopped reading when you said randolph was fundamentaly sound

Randolph travels 1 out of 3 times trying to dribble. He throws way to many moves. When he actually does drive he shoots a lot of leaners and tough shots (that he is not capable of making at this point). I dont think he is strong fundamentaly at all… I will say he plays hard and can really put a ball back in on the O-Board. But he is not even close to fundamentally sound… also pair that with is inability to guard the carl laundry’s of this league.

by shooter1525 on Dec 14, 2008 10:43 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

But he is not even close to fundamentally sound

Maybe I should have said basically? What I like about him is he has anticipation of where the ball is gonna bounce and he remembers that the point of the game is to get the ball into the basket. Morrow has the same basic understanding but approaches it from a different perspective.

Randolph’s nose for the ball is very good. It appears that he could be a very good rebounder. That’s a good thing. He also seems to be an above average shot blocker. This is also a good thing. Both suggest that when he’s near the basket, he does things that are an asset to the team.

But that’s when things stop looking good. The notion that he should be a “3” though will negate some of these pluses as he’s less likely to be in good rebounding position or be in a position to defend the rim. It will also mean that his turnover problem and shooting woes (both apparent in college, both apparent at this level) will be further highlighted making him less and less valuable.

by jae on Dec 15, 2008 12:35 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah. Actually, I think Wright at the 3 and Randolph at the 4 might be a better alignment than the other way. Wright would be a good rebounder at the 3, would get pushed around less, and he seems like he might be fast enough to keep up with most guys, especially since he can his long arms to bail himself out. Meanwhile, playing power forward would constrain Randolph more into doing the things he’s good at and minimizing everything else. The biggest stumbling block would be Wright’s shooting ability, but it doesn’t actually seem terrible to me.

As for Randolph’s overall potential, tiny sample sizes, but he’s playing a good bit better in December than he did in November. Shooting a huge bit better, turning it over a bit less, accruing more steals. His blocks are way down and his rebounding has fallen a bit, though it’s still good… his numbers reflect his move away from the basket. He’s also fouling too much. Still and all, though, if Randolph’s six December games were the first six of his NBA career, we’d all be pretty ecstatic.

I still wouldn’t bet on Randolph becoming a good player, but I can at least entertain the possibility. He’s upped his FG% pretty quickly — it’s still awful, but it’s rising fast. If his 47% shooting this month is sustainable, his prospects improve dramatically.

If nothing else, I’m excited to see what he does each game. A month ago, he made me cover my eyes. Now, he still makes a truckload of mistakes, but he seems to be catching on a little more.

Good Diary or Fanpost, whatever

Just had to log in and post that I agree with you 100 percent Indisputable GM. All your points are a little obvious at this point, right? It was over the moment we signed Mags in a total panic move. I just don’t know how you go into to an NBA season without a point guard.

The thing is, that if we had the leadership, this team could will itself to some close games and wind up with 35 wins. The problem is that we lack the discipline to play consistently for 48 minutes. That is unforgivable with so many young legs fighting for a career. We are unprepared and have a complete mismatch between roster and coach.

I find myself not rooting for these guys as much as the old dubs. Way too many guys have minutes thrust upon them this year. I’d like to see guys earn it.
