Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

the curse. (aka sprewell)

i'm typically not superstitious but my last excuse for the warriors may be a reasonable one. the curse of notorious latrell sprewell.

(correction thanks to evil monkey, st. jean did not become gsw gm till start of 97/98 season. so some irrelevant facts but it does not distract my point.) it all began when general manager garry st. jean was hired in may of 1992. his first big job was the upcoming draft, and the his 24th pick of the first round was none other than mr. sprewell. he was a young promising guard hailing from the college of alabama. but what promises did he keep with the warriors? he displayed nothing but selfishness and disgrace as the warriors went on to a 34-48 record in his rookie 92/93 season. his first season, his curse shadowed the warriors with the absence due to injuries of star players; chris mullin, tim hardaway, sarunas marciulionis and billy owens.

i could go on describing sprewell's mishaps througout his warrior career but my point is, the warriors since his 92/93 season debut will suffer for 15 seasons, the number on his warriors jersey. i could point out all the horridness and disappointments of sprewell but that would be another blog. the warriors will not see their real potential until the 15 years of bad air that sprewell left us with is over, which would be the the 2011/2012 season. can you wait warriors fans? im not trying to hate on what we've done the past couple of seasons, but its a tease, not even a super hero baron davis could cure. but maybe the cure is coming with rising heroes on our current squad; monta ellis and andris biedrins. but yet what curse of sprewell has hit those two, ridiculous half season injury and bad freethrow shooting. thats just a stab at latvia, i can't think of anything really negative to say about biedrins.

if this is something worth elaborating on or you might be interested hearing more about get at me, let me know.

Gary St Jean became GM in 97-98

http://www.nba.com/warriors/news/Garry_St_Jean_Draft_History.html

Since becoming the Warriors’ general manager prior to the start of the 1997-98 season (after the 1997 NBA Draft had taken place), Garry St. Jean has been at the forefront of four Golden State drafts…Following is a look at what St. Jean has done in each draft:

I

thought you meant Kurz

So I don't have a signature well these words would do! Who knew that upgrades can have downgrades too!

sprewell stinks

back then and still today. if it wasn’t for him, tim hardaway would never ever get traded and the warriors would have contended in the west for several years in a row…

but he HAD to challenge Hardaway’s leadership…. oh well :-(

he COULD NOT do it

and still feed the entire Alaska alone with his salary :-)

seriously, that was the most depriment era of the Warriors, I mean, having a 50-win team with spree+webber, the return of hardaway + mullin(who has just a subpar year), yo man, we could have DOMINATED

Funny thing is...

….Spree is the reason i became a Dubs fan! Haha.

He was just exciting to watch as a youngin’. He always had a great double-handed dunk.

One of my childhood friends borrowed it and never returned it. It was so long ago I forgot who took and could never take it back. Sucks. However, i never see people wear Spree jerseys at Oracle…always Mullin ones. Does everyone really hate Spree or something?

I remember having his Acropolis (?) Converse kicks. haha.

lets

see he left because he choked out a coach, and thats when we really really really got bad.

Owens and Webber

It all started with the Billy Owens for Rony Seikaly trade. Webber and Spree were crying cuz their homie got traded. Then Webber cried about playing for Nellie and was traded for Googs. The W’s started out 5-0 that season (even with Webber holding out), but once the trade went down, the season, and the franchise fell apart. Remember Spree writing #4 and #30 on his shoes? Think about that starting lineup they would have had if Webber hadn’t wanted out: Seikay, Webber, Mullin, Hardaway, and Spree. Webber didn’t even have to player center anymore.
