What the starting lineup should really look like
okay, just admit it. we're not going to the playoffs this year. so that means it's a rebuilding year. and if this is true, why not develop your young guys as much as you can? with this in mind, i suggest a new starting lineup.
Center: Biedrins, he looks like a veteran center, but keep in mind he's younger than monta ellis, keep starting him at center, besides we really don't have anyone else anyways.
Power Forward: Wright. this guy has potential, and after all, he was our first round draft pick from last year. he hasn't really gotten a chance to prove himself so play him more and see if he's the real deal or a bust.
Small Forwad: Randolph. he makes rookie mistakes, but he makes some spectacular plays also. that dunk on yao is my favorite play so far this season (followed closely by maco's behind the backboard shot) he hustles a lot and it's better to get him ready for next year instead of playing azibukie, it's kind of a no-brainer for me.
Shooting Guard: Bellinelli. he didn't get much of a chance last year and when he did, he came in for 2 minutes and only got like 1 shot off. but now that he IS playing, he's playing well. good defense, hustle, and he makes his shots unlike jackson. he can run point better than post of these guys anyways.
Point Guard: Crawford. he's had some horrendous shooting nights also, but you can't leave that team on the floor without a little leadership. so crawford can be the "veteran" player who can do the ball handling. but i would love to see watson get a lot of minutes and of couse, i would rather have monta start when he returns
What you guys think?

Randolph’s a tough sell for a 3 in Nellieball. His outside shot needs a lot of work and he can’t shoot the three.

A tough sell in any system until his FG% climbs and his turnovers fall. I’m impressed with the rebounding, but his shot selection and decision making make him a liability. The .425 TS % has to improve dramatically to be considered merely terrible.

Agree but
Jackson should start over Marco….Don Nelson is really getting on my last nerve with this small ball BS, Wright and Randolph are the future of this franchise along with Monta and Biedrins…..There is no reason why Wright and Randolph should not get consistent minutes every game. These two guys need to learn to play alongside each other, not compete for the PF position, the starting lineup should be crawford, jackson, randolph, wright and biedrins then bring crawford or jackson off the bench once monta’s back.

There's no reason why you can't try to win and develop young players at the same time.
It really doesn’t matter who starts, but who finishes. With that being said this would be my starting lineup:
PG: Crawford – He is a scorer who can create his own shot as well as for others.
SG: Morrow – He can spread the floor with his shooting. Nellie needs to run some plays for him. He’s proven he can shoot the lights out when he has the opportunity.
SF: Jackson – He"s the leader of this team now. He will flourish in his natural position.
PF: Turiaf – Boards and Blocks. And garbage buckets.
C: Biedrins – Same.
Second Unit: Watson, Buike & Bellinelli, Maggette, Randolph and Wright
This would be a 9/10 man rotation. Not too many teams can say that. Everyone is complaining that this team lacks talent. I disagree. There’s talent here, just young and inexperienced. They’re going to make mistakes, but they need to learn from their mistakes and have the chance to redeem themselves. The problem is, one mistake and the young players gets yanked. Nellie is not the best coach for this team. He needs a veteran team in order to win. He doesn’t have the patience and willingness to teach.
Look at the Lakers. Just 2 yrs ago when they barely made the playoffs as an 8 seed and got destroyed by the Suns in the 1st round, everyone was saying how bad that team was. Especially they’re bench. Then boom! Just last year, that same team, same bench finally developed and they made it to the Finals. Now, with time and the right coaching, they are the Western Conf favorites and have the deepest team in the league. It took 3 yrs, but their role players just needed time to grow together and develop that chemistry with each other.
It was very sad to hear Nellie say in public that “This team is not going to make the playoffs”, with less than 15 games played in the season. Why would you ever admit that to the media? That’s like going to job interview and telling the interviewer " I am not qualified for this job". Why the hell would he hire you? As a young team, that has to be demoralizing. Why would you believe in yourself and the team if the coach doesn’t? It’s apparent Nellie has given up on the season, and on his players.
This team can be good, but not for another couple of years. And by that time, Nellie will be long gone. Hopefully.

How exactly is SF Jax’s natural position? As a forward, one would expect him to rebound some. Despite his height, he doesn’t rebound well for a guard, let alone a forward.
by jae on Dec 16, 2008 6:45 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Yes he doesn't rebound well
But that’s not his role. It’s his natural position because SF is what he played when he was with the Nets, Spurs, Hawks and Pacers. But you’re right, at 6’8", he should rebound better. He only averages 3.7 for his career.
by Being Mr. Jennings on Dec 16, 2008 7:12 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Sorry, I don’t follow why it’s his natural position if he seems unable to do something fundamental to the position. Why is he a ‘natural sf’ and not a natural sf?
by jae on Dec 16, 2008 9:42 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
He's to busy guarding the guy putting up the shot...
to be grabbing rebounds. He matches up every time down with the other teams main option on the wing.

He's to busy guarding the guy putting up the shot...
Biedrins is probably the busiest person when it comes to guarding the guy putting up the shot (since nobody can’t keep their man in front of him) yet not only is he grabbing boards. He’s grabbing alot of them for his position.

Play 2 bigs
I don’t care who they are – beans/turi/AR/Wright/Kurz/Hendrix. I am sick of 4 guys 6’7 or under and one big. Nellie – this team is no longer Monte/Baron/Richardson/Jackson/Al (I own the shirt but I don’t know whether to keep it for memories or burn it because it hurts to see it). The shooting, passing, and overall BBall IQ was lost with Baron and Al.

Andris and Turiaf
on the court at the same time have resulted in the W’s best minutes this year. But that violates Nellies “system.” (You know, the one that is working so well.)
by formerlythecity on Dec 17, 2008 6:42 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Andris and Turiaf
While I love seeing them on the floor together (one rebounder, one shotblocker) I think the biggest roadblock in playing together is who’s coming in after them. Our frontcourt lineup is scary, and not in a good way.
After Turiaf and Biedrins, we have
Randolph
Wright
Kurz
Yes, that’s what’s left to bang inside.
by lightz0ut on Dec 17, 2008 7:49 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I’m starting to think that our ideal lineup is this:
PG: Monta Ellis
SG: Stephen Jackson
SF: Brandan Wright
PF: Ronny Turiaf
C: Andris Biedrins
…with Maggette coming in and Wright moving to the 4 once Turiaf gets in his usual foul trouble. That’s a lineup with a lot of size and length, and only Jack is an indiscriminate shooter. Does Wright have the shooting range to be an effective 3? I don’t know, but he has absolutely everything else one would need, and he does seem to have a little touch.
I honestly don’t know where Crawford slots in. You can’t play him alongside Maggette for long, and Maggette’s better… he shouldn’t play over a healthy Jack, as we desperately need Jack’s defensive adequacy. He obviously shouldn’t play over Monta. Jamal Crawford really has no place on this team. That trade seems more ridiculous by the week.
by onlxn on Dec 16, 2008 6:12 PM PST reply actions 1 recs
im actually
for that lineup alot…however, you would never catch nelson playing 3 bigs in the starting lineup cause hes retarded
When Maggette missed those consecutive shots in a span of a humming bird’s flap,
Crawford simply looked at the bench and said, "Are you serious?"
by gorillas on Dec 16, 2008 7:11 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Nellie is a retard...lol
Check out this transcript from Tim K.This is funny. Nellie being Nellie.
-Q: You didn’t get Wright in until the beginning of the fourth, barely got Randolph in at all…
-NELSON: Well, it was a small man’s game tonight, the way we figured it. And our small team had to really play well. And their small team outplayed us, that’s all. They made more shots than we did, better passes. Our small line-up to score the ball.
That’s been our problem, when we go small, the other team’s small team is better. Makes it kind of a difficult time.
But I think it was a match-up that we had to do. We had to go small. I don’t think any of our bigs could’ve guarded that line-up. That was another reason I did zone, when I went with a bigger guy, we helped him out as well.
He just conceded that small ball doesn’t work and yet he still refuses to go to a traditional lineup. Pathetic. Why do people still make excuses for this guy?
by Being Mr. Jennings on Dec 16, 2008 7:19 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Gosh
Nellie is such an idiot!!!! He needs to play Brandon and Randolph more!! He needs to stop using this small ball crap, we are losing b/c we are only playing small players that can easily be out-rebounded with little defense!

The only thing is
we only have one 3 point shooter(kind of) and wright is meant for the four. He cant play the three he can sort of shoot from mid range but he can’t dribble so he is useless at that position

I think even Nellie could coax 50 wins out of this team. Probably.

lol u guys way to go completely offtopic
but its quite interesting anyways. i wasnt looking for no dream lineups tho, im saying with this season supposedly now to be called a “rebuilding” season, the lineup that should play is the lineup that will help this team in the future, and the players that need the most developing need to be developed. when else are u gonna do it?
by MeTaLLiCs0naTaS on Dec 16, 2008 8:56 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
starters
We don’t need to start them. Like it or not we still have to cater to the vets. Plus, you throw that lineup and once they start losing a couple of games it’ll just hurt their morale and their overall game.
We do, however, need to seriously start giving them consistent minutes. We don’t need to play them 30+ minutes but we should start giving them at least 10-15 min of meaningful time every game. Then those who performs well gets to play more, weed out who can really contribute this season and who needs another year.

Lets hope the other team doesnt huff and puff.....
Cause with a lineup of Andris, Brandan, and Anthony R starting would get blown off the court with a light breeze….
Realistically, Jackson will need to be at the three because he can create opportunities for others, especially when Ellis gets back (remember, Monta’s not exactly the most creative passer).
A lineup of Monta, Crawford, Jack, Wright, and Andris would give us offensive and defensive flexibility, and have randolph try to get some minutes off the bench for a while.
And for the record, its not alweays the best thing to just throw rookies to the wolves and hope they get good all of a sudden. Confidence is everything in the NBA, and thats partially why Nellie doesnt just bench the unproductive vets and play the all under 23 team every night.

best lineup.
three ballhandlers in the backcourt, although capn jack has a really high dribble, two “threats” from beyond the arc, and brandan wright starting. i like it, especially if jack is looking to get the young bigs involved.
