Waive goodbye to Richard Hendrix [Examiner]. Good luck man. At the very least you can play Shaun Alexander in the former MVP Running Back's made-for-TV biography.

Wow.

I thought this guy could be a Millsap/Landry type.

I guess he could still be, but it certainly won’t be here.

by Eggman on Dec 18, 2008 10:49 AM PST reply actions

He was the best choice to go

Hendrix wasnt cutting it in the DLeague.
If he gets better we can resign him, cause no other team will be picking him up anytime soon.

He’ll probably come back to haunt us someday. Nellie don’t understand the value of a big hammer in the tool box for those things that need some persuasion.

Well maybe he just wasn't good enough

If he wasn’t performing in the D league… why would he be that much better in the NBA. All this Millsap/Landry talk is best case scenarios…. if he’s not close to that then why not cut him.

Hendrix's D-Stats

The dude was averaging 13 ppg, 10 rpg in 28 minutes per game, what more do you want of him? Full Stats

that's pretty sucky for d-league

considering that d-league is summer league minus young NBA players.

even though Hendrix may never play in the NBA, it still makes no sense to not cut DeMarcus. guy’s like him are a dime a dozen – like KAz/CJ just pick up one of the highest PPG guy in the d-league and you have his replacement.

cause a big hammer with a crooked handle is still better than no no big hammer at all. We’ve got a million little screw drivers with bunged up tips so why not throw out one of them?

If you think about it, this is a little funny. Hendrix was cut because Monta’s suspension is over. But Moped Ellis is still not ready to play because of his injury. Who knows when the timetable for his comeback is at this point.

So why not just keep Hendrix and just suspend Monta again? I’m guessing there’s an NBA rule about successive suspensions that makes this implausible?

by Atma Brother ONE on Dec 18, 2008 11:36 AM PST reply actions

LOL

i hope that’s not a serious question. if it is then that’s completely idiotic.

yeah….suspend monta again and make our franchise player disgruntled. just what the doctor ordered for the warriors.

by nuttinbutnet on Dec 18, 2008 11:59 AM PST up reply actions

Monta violated his contract and lied about it

He should be thankful the Warriors didn’t rip the contract apart. As of this moment he’s untradeable and no team in the league would give him the contract the Warriors just gave him this past offseason.

The last thing anyone should care about is how “disgruntled” he is.

by Atma Brother ONE on Dec 18, 2008 12:04 PM PST up reply actions

He should be thankful the Warriors didn’t rip the contract apart.

In turn, the Warriors should be thankful that some fans actually rationalize that all will be good when Monta returns.

Otherwise, we at GSOM won’t be divided no more and someone’s idea of starting a Warriors fund might actually move into the front page.

by lightz0ut on Dec 18, 2008 6:46 PM PST up reply actions

I didn't think it was very funny

I can’t believe you’re worried about Monta being disgruntled. Now that’s idiotic! I don’t think he’d be disgruntled, it’s just what he deserves.

Why should Monta get paid for games that he misses as a result of violating the terms of his contract? They should not have to pay him until he can return to the court. It’s his fault for getting injured and costing the team wins. This crappy 7-19 record is in large part his fault.

by Fantasy Junkie on Dec 18, 2008 12:21 PM PST up reply actions   1 recs

Dude....

i don’t dispute the fact that monta violated the terms of his contract, or it’s his fault for getting injured, or he is a big reason why we freakin suck right now. that wasn’t my point. my point was why risk another suspension of ellis, who has done nothing but try to come back as quick as possible from his accident, to KEEP HENDRIX. HENDRIX???? what da heck has HENDRIX done????

seriously fellas, monta screwed up, we punished him, he agreed to it, time to move on. it’s been hard for all of us to watch the warriors as of late, and monta ellis is the one bright spot that us warriors fans are hoping for. let’s just let the past go and look forward to the future.

Isn't the real issue here that

Kurz beat out Hendrix. Clearly Nellie loves what Kurz has to offer. Where as we Hendrix never got a chance with Nellie because he was hurt all training camp.

Kurz.

Do you know why he received ZERO minutes played after a previous career game?

Nellie is a genius.

I seriously don't get it either.

With the favoritism Don Nelson has for certain veteran players, I’m sure all the new players and rooks are bustin their arses off in practice just to get playing time.

Then when they finally get the minutes and actually play well for one game, they get rewarded the next game by sitting on the bench?

What the hell do these young guys have to do to get playing time if they do well in one game? Hit Nellie in the face with a baseball bat?

That has to be very frustrating for the players themselves.

The excuse is, “It just wasn’t the right matchup.” or “We tried to go small ball but their small ball was just better than us this game.”

Well if that’s the case, wouldn’t you forget about your original strategy and adjust with a different plan?

Waiver is for money reasons

Williams was going to cost over a million, hendrix was simply cheaper. I doubt nellie decided this.

by mosdl on Dec 18, 2008 12:58 PM PST reply actions

I’m sorry that Hendrix didn’t get a chance to play in the NBA prior to the waiver. Why carry around Marcus Williams as a dead weight (until he’s traded, if we’re lucky) and not see what Hendrix could do? What was Hendrix developing his game for exactly? Nellie recently described Hendrix as having an NBA body and ability to rebound. On a team where being out rebounded is a constant recipe for loss he might have offered useful minutes here and there. We really only have 2 rebounders – Bierdrins who plays, and Randolph who doesn’t. Turiaf and Wright are poor rebounders for big men (particularly defensively). At this stage Ronny probably brings more to the table despite his low offensive production than Wright. If a Wright/Maggette/Williams trade eventuates lets hope we get a third rebounding (and solid defensive) presence.

Perhaps

We trade williams/someone else, and then resign hendrix?

Stephane Lasme anyone?

Wasn’t Lasme the same guy as Hendrix just drafted a year earlier?

by Fantasy Junkie on Dec 18, 2008 4:41 PM PST reply actions

Unbelievable.

I was just watching the Jam game against the Tulsa 66ers today. Hendrix was going to blossom into quite the player. He isn’t an NBA ready player, but his work ethic and character make him a player I was excited to have on the Warriors. I can’t believe they waived him instead of Kurz. From the little I’ve seen Hendrix play, he’s displayed a great understanding of the game, an amazing ability to crash the boards, and he possesses a higher basketball IQ than other players. He definitely would have been a great player had the Warriors actually kept him. I hope he makes it to another team, the guy really deserves a chance. I guess you have to be a big who can shoot the three ball and have no other talent to be on the Warriors, as opposed to Hendrix.

IF a trade is coming

trade Maggs without giving up any of these players:
Ellis
Beans
Wright
Belinelli
Randolph
Morrow
Turaif
Kurz

The rest can be traded. Feel free to hate me (yes this includes Bukie, Crawfish, Jack, CJ)

I will always be your fan JRich. Good Luck

Horrible move

I think Kurz or Marcus Williams would have been better options to cut. With the year Williams is having, he’s not worth anything in a trade anyway. He doesn’t make enough money for his expiring contract attractive to teams clearing cap space.

I agree that Hendrix will be the next Millsap/Landry type player (and probably this year, for whichever other team that scoops him up first!) He was drafted at the same position in the late 2nd round, and with similar size and a similar skill set. At worst, he could have been the future backup PF for this team, which is a position the Warriors have always been weak at.

Will he ?

Still get to play in the D league after we release him? Will some other team have to give him a contract to let him keep playing there?

bad move

I got to go to the pre-season games and I thought he played alright and I think he could of made a difference for this team. They should of sent williams to the d-league and kept hendrix with the team and see what he could do.
