Warriors summer of 2010.
I think most of us will agree, we are in a major rebuild mode. This team will be good when monta come back, but still not playoff caliber, perhaps next year they can FIGHT for 8 seed but still, the make up of this team isnt 1 to go far. So this got me thinking, who if anyone could we get in the fames summer of 2010 class. Right now we dont have the cap room at all, but alot can happen in 2 summers. Using hoopshype, we can see how much room we can create.... http://hoopshype.com/salaries/golden_state.htm
1st maggette will have to go. At this point i'm in favor of mags for anyone whose contract comes off fast. Preferably a pf or center who can contribute something like say joe smith. Clearl oe smith + whoever is not equal to maggette, but it might make us a better team, and definitely put us in much better situation for free agents
2nd I think most people agree crawford wont opt out so we got him till 2011. If he does GREAT, but if he doesnt i think we'll trade deadline time next year we could probably easily move him for expiring contracts to a team in need of a boost.
those 2 alone would clear 19.86 mil putting us at 36.54. We could also move 'buke w/ crawford as most teams would love an energy guy like him. No 'buke would put us down at $33.2mil. At th minimum i see us wanting to pick up bellinelli and randolphs options which is another $4.2 mil (i left wright out because i assume wed have to trade him as an attractive young player w/ a bad contract player like crawford or buke). All and all this would put us at 37.2mil.
currently the salary cap is set at $58.6 mil, its safe to assume itll move to over 60 mil in 2010 (but we can use 60 as measuring point.)
-37.2mil to monta, biedrins, jack, turiaf, bellinelli, randolph
http://www.nba.com/news/cba_summary_050804.html
"
- 0-6 years of service: 25% of Salary Cap ($12 million this year).
- 7-9 years of service: 30% of Salary Cap ($14.4 million this year).
- 10 or more years of service: 35% of Salary Cap ($16.8 million this year).
The maximum player salaries will continue to be based on a 48.04% of BRI Salary Cap (not on the new, higher Salary Cap)."
Now the 2 players i'd want to go for more than anyone: CHris Bosh or amare stoudlemire. Both would fit the system perfectly. I think Amare might be a harder sell, but going into 2010 we'll have monta at age 24, biedrins 24, bellinelli 24, randolph 21, jack 31. This could be a very attractive player for ap layer like bosh who will be 26. Bosh would have finished his 7th year...meaning bosh would demand a salary of 18 mil.
the 18 + 37.2 would put us at 55.2 + this years first round pick who i project to be a pg (hopefully pg for future) at 2.5 mil of so a season. leaving us a couple mil to fill out the roster. I realize that seems small, but boston filled out there roster on mostly minimum contracts after peirce, allen garnett.
i realize im deep in fantasy bball land but i pose question to you, 1) if anyone has insight to whether we could attract said players... 2) would u be willing to deal w/ what is basically going to be a 1.5 season fire sale.
I personally would because this core wont win anything, but if we build around monta, biedrins... perhaps bellinelli randolph show to be real players.... adding a real all star could make this team an upper teir team. Remember in 2010, kobe will be 32, and although i fully expect lakers to still be dominant, they could slide. Spurs should be very declined. Houston again is built on over 30 players, and an injury prone yao ming... they dont have forever.....Dallas and pheonix are already sliding. Portland, utah (if they keep boozeR) and new orleans will be rising.... but the idea of warriors + bosh as i proposed could elevate to top tier.
PG: rookie (perhaps stephen curry or brandon jennings) + league minimum vet who will be easy to attract when the blue print for a winning team is here
SG: Monta, bellinelli
SF: Jack, bellinelli, randolph
PF: Bosh, randolph
C: Biedrins, turiaf
clearly we'd need to fill out the roster but if there's something we've learned.... there r players like buke, morrow to be had in d-league who r more than sufficient for ur 10th man on a team

i hate to sound negative
but i dont think that we could land a top flight FA. we would need to grossly over pay for a FA to even consider coming here.
i think also at that time our coaching situation maybe alittle in limbo with the end of nellie ball and the beginning ksmart or moncrief or whoever rowell decides on since mully will be gone by then.
but it would be nice to have a front court of bosh and beans i guess that video games are for
be the change you wish to see in the world.
well the thing is, w/ the nba contract structure…. bosh (for ex) is gonna get max money no matter where he goes. So it a choice of the city/team he likes more.
its not baseball where yankees can out bid.
bay area is a wonderful place, and alot of people love coming here… its not milwaukee, sacramento, etc. so the right free agent would…
i’d definitely agree its a long long shot but if we had the cap room to make it happen i wonder…
I just realized
that Foyle is coming off the books after this year.
Assuming that Nelson and Williams are gone after this season, that cuts ~8.4 million dollars off the payroll, so that leaves us just past the cap.
I wonder if Cleveland would be interested in a deal that takes Maggette to Cleveland in exchange for Eric Snow and Lorenzen Wright. Two expiring contracts that would get us approx. 8 mil in cap space, and it would give the Cavs a scorer off the bench.

I'm just thinking of somewhat decent deals that would get the Dubs some cap space
How ’bout Maggs for Rasho
or Maggs, Buike, and Williams for Odom or
hahaha Marion for Jackson, Maggette, and Williams. (I know, it will never happen, but it would be wonderful)
Or
Jackson for Juwan Howard or
Swift and Hassel for Maggatte and Williams or
Jackson, Maggette, Turiaf and Williams for Marbury (I wouldn’t even want that)
Maggette for Wilcox and Petro (I think that would benefit both teams)
A deal I would love would be Andre Miller for Maggette and Williams
More trades:
Anthony Parker and Jorge Garbajosa for Maggette

amare
we must get rid of jamal and maggette somehow someway. I think next year with a healthy monta, an improving biedrins, and the possible uprisings of belinelli, bwright, and randolph we could make a push for the last couple spots of the playoffs and if we make it, it could attract Amare enough to come, could u imagine monta Amare and biedrins? It would just be unreal, I like Bosh and he is having a monster year but I think Amare fits better.
i agree amare is better and best fit… but i think he’s prolly the #2 guy after lebron and will be HARD to get. Amare’s a little older and w/ his injury problems has more of a win NOW attitude….
bosh is a big community service guy. Maybe some of our guys could help convince him.. although hes active in dallas his home community…. but i see 0 way they can get him w/ dirk and all contracts they got… unless they dump dirk
There is no chance the Warriors can get under the cap
Here’s what we’re looking at:
Beans: $9m
Monta: $11m
Maggs: $9.6m
S-Jax: $8.45m
Turiaf: $4m
B-Wright: $3.4m
Randolph: $1.965m
Marco: $2.38m
JUST THOSE GUYS is $47.415m, and that does not include Crawford, Kelenna, any of the draft picks (two first rounders = around $4m, probably), or signing anyone else.
Just those guys, draft picks, and filling out the roster takes the Warriors to the cap regardless of the $15m I didn’t count.
For your own sanity, don’t think about 2010 as a possibility- it isn’t one.
There is no summer of 2010 for the Warriors wake up and smell the horrible stench
coming from our management at all levels. This team smells foul and it’s not going to change anytime soon, get used to craptastic Warriors basketball for years and years and years and years.
It's all about the killer cross-over baby!
Getting Amare
That would be perfect for us Could you picture a line up of
C Beans
PF Amare
SF Jack
SG Jamal
PG Ellis
And then you have a deep bench with Bukie, Wright, Morrow, Marco, Randolph, Turif ,ect
We would probably have to give up Maggette though for expiring deals
