Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

I Still Believe... Even if None of You Do

Indeed I do. Okay, so we're 8-20. 12 games under .500 to-date. So what? We're no different than the identity we've had over the years. We're a team that's either really close in the ballgame, or we lose and get blown out. The only difference is that the two years prior to this one, we finished with winning records. We're not winning consistently now, but we're missing 3 20+ game scorers out with injuries. I already know that Monta is not going to save the season. Heck, I know we'll be even lucky just to have him be half the player he was prior to the injury. However, what I'm looking forward to is by the time he comes back, hopefully the guys will have the swagger that they could compete with anyone.

I honestly don't remember the year of the season (It might be the '96-'97), but the Suns started out absolutely awful as well. They had at least a 10-game losing streak in that season. Before it was all said and done, that team started gelling together, and then they also had a 10-game winning streak in the season and made the playoffs. Even though we're filled with NBA babies and rookies, I still see the potential of this team doing that this season. Even if we don't make it, and if healthy for the most part, I don't think we're going to finish as one of the worst teams in the league at all.

From the majority of the posts I read, I'm seeing lots of dissing towards our team. I understand, we're losing, and ya'll are frustrated, but I'm just looking at it as gearing this team for the future. And if you're gearing up for the future, there's no way you can be a contending team now. Where I'm getting at is for those that are getting mad, I don' t know if you're expecting us to contend for a championship or what, because it's just not going to happen.

And for those of you that really think this team sucks, just think to yourself and ask where would we be if each and every single one of our games was officiated straight down the middle. Not just this year, but what would our win and loss records be of years past? You hear Barnett and Fitz always complain how Biedrins gets mugged down low... and no foul. Or one of our guys could just touch another guy with a pinky, and get called for the foul. That's not even all that's not fair. Those of you that watch all games or just about will know what I'm talking about.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

How does a coach teach maturity...

game-time situations, example – (stepping in bounds – turnover – when the defense fakes a move). The answer is he can’t. He can only simulate game situations in practice and put players in game-day with the hope that they have learned what he has taught.

This year, the “teaching” extends to an even younger group of inexperienced players, albeit with some flash in the pants high school/freshman in college moves. This is the NBA, where the best – not the rest come to play.

With so much to teach this group of Warriors, and with any vet experience out with injuries, the quickest way to “teach” is to divide and conquer – matching all the inexperience with the experience/strengths of the coaching staff. Nellie – teaching O, the rest teaching D. Think about it – how many of you would have passed senior in high school or college courses as freshman? Besides Moses Malone, very few have the cagy/skill set to propel them from the street to stardom.

Keep the Faith!!!

I'd love to have Gerald Wallace on our team.

He’s dope on both ends of the floor.

Problem is, he doesn’t want to play PF anymore and stated it strongly with the Bobcats as he always got injured playing at the 4. He is much more comfortable at the 3.

With that said, he would hate Nelson’s guts because he would force him to play 25 minutes at Center and 12 minutes at PF.

Thank you once again Don Nelson. You are a Genius.

I like the post and optimism....

I don’t think that the majority of fans are quitting on this Warrior’s team, but rather venting their frustration which is completely understandable. The drop-off in excitement and wins, leaves a bad taste and fuels disappointment. This combined with what was the ultimate tease of continued future success in the 06-07 playoffs, makes the result on the court less than satiisfactory.

Injuries are a key reason for the 8-20 start, i mean Monta has been out all season, and Maggette/Jackson have missed a combined 16 games, which makes consistency in terms of a rotation and team chemistry impossible. Hopefully when all of the pieces are back together we will get to see the complete maximization of this roster.

I like the example of the 96-97 Suns, who were (0-13), (10-24), and (22-37) during points in that season, only to finish (40-42) and sneak into the playoffs. However I don’t see a (40-42) team reaching the playoffs in the western conference this year. I do think that when the pieces are back together the W’s can make strides as a team and improve their record and chemistry as the season progresses.

Here’s hoping Monta’s return sparks a remarkable run to the playoffs, either that or the rebirth of Nellieball for this team. Worst case is they continue to lose in which case they pick up a true PG in the draft and improve.

Here’s to rest of the season and what might be….

+1

monta 23, biedrins 22, bellinelli 22, randolph 19, bwright 21… all could still be in college!

even morrow, kurz, buke, watson r all sub25 and showing they r capable ba players… we’re gonna have some growing pains no doubt…jack is hurting, mags is hurt…. i mean crawford and turiaf r our only nba ‘vets’ and even thats a stretch….

it gonna take a few years, but when it happens itll be great. I’m more excited about this than ive been about anything as a warriors fan…. we havent had this type of talent or potential as long as i can remember but everone needs to remember its gonna take some real time

Yup

I still have hope for this team, they’re capable of winning games, it’s just that they’ve sucked so far which has been pissing me off. Of course, losses are expected, but the WAY they lose is really bothering.

i have hope

just nellie pisses me off with how he plays the players and what has been happening with the front office isn’t exactly comforting but i think we will be awesome (especially if Maggette doesn’t come back, and we trade him for Josh Howard).

by Ali luvs monta on Dec 21, 2008 1:59 AM PST reply actions

arrite here it is..

I’m probably one of the very few people who don’t think that " WE NEED TO FIRRE NELLY!!!/LETS TRADE EVERYONE" and all the other conspiracy theories being thrown around..

As much as I miss the WE BELIEVE squad (J-RICH..ALL TIME FAV EVER (JORDAN WHO?).. I feel that we have a really promising core squad right now.. just give them time. I think everyone is just hungover from the past few winning seasons we’ve been having.. and now that we’re in a slump.. the initial reaction from everyone has been to totally revamp everything. I am all for trading up, but even a team of all-stars can’t win without chemistry.. and chemistry takes time.

I think and truly believe that the Warriors will surprise the league.. and even ourselves by coming out of this slump and ending the season.. whether it be with a .500 record, or maybe possibly a OVER .500 record. I’m not ruling out a playoff seed, but as much as I still believe in them I doubt that we’ll be able to pull that off.

I’ve been with the Warriors through the Manute Bol days.. to the Mitch Richmonds, Spree for 3’s, J-Rich’s, and now with this squad. As much as I want them to go on a 82-win rape fest of the NBA.. I’m still a hardcore fan no matter what the record says

expecting us to contend for a championship or what

trying to frame the other side of an issue by describing it further in the extreme does not improve your argument: no one ever predicted or even claimed to expect that a championship was possible even before Baron left, Monta injured etc. – we did hope and expect that the process of clearing out deadwood contracts would put us in place to build and continue to improve – and compete to get into the playoffs …

yet only a couple months away from a 48-win season we’re faced with a a horrible record wrapped up in a knot of long contracts for overpaid and underperforming vets tied to the youngest roster of players not getting much playing time – you want to see the glass half full, fine, but the architects of this roster have recreated the contract mistakes they’d just extricated themselves of and those will hang like albatrosses around our collective neck and pointing that out is not dissing our team, nor are we a collection of " typical people that are thinking down on this team just because they’re losing" but rather one of the most loyal fanbases in the country who recognize we didn’t have to be in this situation at all with better decisions! We’re all cheering the team on, or we wouldn’t be here. We’re also not blind followers who are going to drink the koolaid.

Jagz8 is right (above) about the health of the club, expectations, and assessing fans – to which we can add that we expected a modestly productive Harrington in addition (some of us dared hope for even more but that’s moot now)

as for sneaking into the playoffs, didn’t we just pull that one off year before last? with a late season winning streak to boot? under this coach? THAT’s where I’d invest my optimism if there’s any to be found, not a decade-old Phx comparison … all for the optimism, but there’s a role for skeptics too – particularly not to get our hopes up too high (.500?! OVER .500?? PLAYoffs!? 10 game winning streak??)

We Believe in good players
We Believe in good coaching
We Believe in good management

- but we’ve only got half a glass of any of those right now

by Golden Boy on Dec 21, 2008 9:48 AM PST up reply actions

Believe in what, exactly?

Playoffs, we got no chance, theres 9 pretty good teams in the west so we cant slip in.

Believe in the future?
Sure we got some nice pieces, but we got Maggette and Jackson’s horrible contracts and Nellie looking like he has lost intrest and some ridiculuos internal conflict which s somehow messing with playing time of ‘Nellie Guys’ vs ‘Mullin Guys’.

This year we are absolutley horrible, and I dont know if MOPED can change that.

Fans are pessismistic because there isnt much for us to ‘believe’ in at the moment.

What is the status of our petitions to fire Robert Rowell and have Chris Cohan commit Hari Kiri, or at least sell the team?

by warriorsscore110 on Dec 21, 2008 9:02 AM PST reply actions

The Concern is a "Wasted" Season

At this point I do not care about the wins (this is not a playoff year), I care about the future – specifically:
1. Player Development for Players that Will Stay or Become “Trade Bait” for a star
2. Getting Rid of Players that do not fit our system (I really think almost all of our players have talent but maybe not for the W’s system)
3. Future Financial Flexibilty.

Right now I don’t think we are doing this. I agree with the G. Wallace comments – this is the type of guy that could lead to future playoff runs.

Yeah Right

Is this some way to get attention? You really think that The owner or management of the warriors will listen to what teenagers think and fire Nellie after he brought us back to the playoffs after more than a decade and invested millions of dollars towards him? Hahahaha, don’t even waste your time. Go out and finish your Christmas shopping instead of waiting for this to happen

by Somar on Dec 21, 2008 10:02 AM PST up reply actions

uh, no.

nelson knows what he’s doing. he might not do it in the prettiest way, and he certainly doesn’t butter up his players as other coaches tend to do, but he remains a great basketball mind. he has been dealt a pretty tough hand, and he’s dealing with it. let him do what he does. there is really no point in calling for his job at this point.

by Run Dubz on Dec 22, 2008 1:29 AM PST up reply actions

I still Believe and still think Maggs can be good for this team...

Maggs has played hurt all season, if Maggs quit shooting the 3, kept his shots from 15 feet or less or drives to the hoop he will kill it. I know thats a big IF, but everybody has to learn their limitations some time…. and I think he has shot the 3 so much because he has been hurt… I BELIEVE that this team is 2 pieces away from being a 4-5 seed, we may even have one of those pieces here already…. I BELIEVE that with Monta back it will be much harder for teams to lock down D on us like they have been able to…. I BELIEVE we by February 15 we will find one more key piece to our puzzle………………………..

by warriorbum on Dec 21, 2008 10:19 AM PST reply actions

Free Throws

I think they are third in the league right now for attempts, and the team is shooting just over 75%….not bad at all; compared to previous years.

The pop ups on this site are starting to piss me off.

by danielholl on Dec 21, 2008 10:56 AM PST reply actions

This is a lost season. We’re 8-20. That’s not a decent team struggling, that’s awful basketball.

Having said that, I’m not at all convinced that we’ll end up among the very worst teams in the league. I think we’re far more likely to finish 34-48 than 24-58. There’s a good argument that the latter record would be better for the team long-term… I don’t necessarily dispute that. But I don’t think we’re going to finish that low, for four reasons:

1) Monta. Obvious, but let’s not forget how many things the guy does well. We could use a high-percentage-shooting guard, we could use another good passer (whether he’s a point guard is up in the air, but he’s a pretty good passer)… Monta’s not a very good defender, but he’ll defend point guards better than Crawford, Marco or Watson. Speaking of which…

2) Defense. I don’t know that Keith Smart is a great coach in the making, or that he’s a defensive genius; he is most likely neither. But anything will be far better than the Nellie-guided D we’ve seen thus far. Our defense will still be bad under Smart, but it might not be record-breakingly bad.

3) The demise of smallball. This is a hard concept to kill, but I think Nellie may have finally seen the light in the last couple games. The Keith Smart arrangement should help ward off small ball as well… you’ve got to imagine a defense-focused guy won’t be pushing for Stephen Jackson at power forward.

4) Oracle. This is maybe the biggest factor, and one that’s been lost in the shuffle.

We’ve played 11 games at home so far and 17 on the road. Only Milwaukee has played more road games; only Milwaukee has a bigger gap between their number of home games and road games.

We’re horrible on the road. Even with yesterday’s win, we’re 4-13 away from home, with about a -9.0 point differential. That is bad. That is bowling-shoes ugly.

How about at home? We’re 4-7, with a… -0.2 point differential. Those seven losses include the Miami heartbreaker, and four other games that we lost by five points or less (oddly, we lost all four by exactly five points).

In the middle of this nightmare season, we are actually perfectly competitive at home. Is that just random noise, or is that meaningful? I’d argue that it’s meaningful. Even in dark years, the full crowds at Oracle tend to give the team a boost. We haven’t been an actually weak team at home in seven years, and I don’t think we’re one now. We have 30 home games left… I’d be willing to bet money that we win over half of those.

If we go, say, 17-13 at home the rest of the way, and continue to stink on the road — say 7-17 — that makes us a 32-50 team. I’d expect our final record to be right around there. Again, 19-63 might be a better outcome. But I’ve never seen sixty losses in this team, and I still don’t.

by onlxn on Dec 21, 2008 11:57 AM PST reply actions

Its easy to blame Nelson

And he should be blamed if he won’t play Wright or Randolph at all. But we all saw how bad Wright and Randolph played in last game, they both looked really raw. Its good to see Bellinelli coming out of his shell, it will be great when Monta is back, and I think Wright and Randolph will continue to develop. This year is lost, but next years could be much better with more maturity, chemistry, and hopefully at least Maggette, if not Jackson also, gone from the team. I think Nelson will start showing why he has lasted this long

by Pearlsofwisdom on Dec 21, 2008 1:17 PM PST reply actions

ellis averaged 5 rebounds a game

he isnt mags or buke but he has hops and rebounds very well for a PG/SG…. gets up and gets long rebounds…. anyway his role is not to box out underneath and be charles barkeley.

by Warriors510 on Dec 21, 2008 2:34 PM PST reply actions

Maybe We Can Play Spoiler Like When Baron First Arrived

If Monta can give us a similar boost this year, it will make the team less painful to watch. I can’t stand the jacking of jump shots with no one to rebound. Monte will get into the lane and take high percentage shots. If Wright/Wallace can get their sealegs in terms of defense and rebounding, then Monte’s return could be sweet!
