Looking Forward to Montas Return
It's been a pretty tough first quarter of the season and it doesn't look like we're gonna have any shot at the playoffs. But if you think about what this team has gone through and the transition that they had to make this season, then this was expected. They have been banged up all year long and really haven't been able to establish any kind of chemistry. So to find a positive, just look forward to the return of Monta Ellis. Once he comes back as well as Maggette and Jackson, then we will know what kind of team that we really have. Now I'm not sure if Maggette is still going to be on the Warriors by the time Monta is re-established, but I think that they should at least let the whole group play 10-15 games together before the deadline to see how they mesh. I think that if they develop some good chemistry as a whole, then they should be able to get back to the way they were playing last year. This is what I think the starting lineup should be:
PG: Monta, SG: Crawford, SF: Jackson/Maggette, PF: Wright/Randolph, C: Biedrins
Not quite sure who should start at the 3 and the 4, but whoever is playing better at the time should start.

I’d prefer Crawford at the 1 with Ellis at the 2. Crawford can handle and dish better than Monta. And it would be a better transition for Monta’s return if he stayed at his original spot in the lineup for the time being and he can slowly transition into playing the 1. Just by two cents.
WARRIORS BASKETBALL!!! Patiently waiting for a title...I may be waiting for a long time...

i dunno....
I think belli should play the 1 if he continues the at the level of play he has been at for the last week or so. Sure crawford can dish but if he is going to play the 1, he needs to stop shooting so much. We need him to drive and kick. If he was shooting well, id have no problem but thats not the case.
I agree with putting monta at 2.

when
can we expect monta back. Is it possible that he’ll be back december 26th against the Celtics
by GSW9 on Dec 22, 2008 5:17 AM PST reply actions 0 recs
I would love to see that as I’ll be at the game, love the celtics and warriors, but I haven’t heard anything about how his workouts and/or practices have gone…
Anyone?

Ellis will need spacing
Belli and Morrow with Beans and Turi for boards will work. Ellis will be more effective because he does not necessarily need screen and role to get past his man. We have seen how streaky Crawford is and that he really needs to take a lot of shots and have the ball in his hands – I’m not sure this will work with Ellis.

streaky?
dude he has been playing with this team for a very short amount of time, with a very different lineup every night and without our best player to back him up…what do u expect?
by DeepS on Dec 22, 2008 12:54 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Crawford is Streaky - Accept It!
I don’t care how long he has been with the W’s – Crawford is a streaky player by nature – he takes what for most are bad shots and really does not look to get others involved. His defense leaves much to be desired. Either he scores in bunches or is a dry well. Honestly, this is the type of guy you would rather have off the bench rather than starting.

serioriously
if u havent kept track of his career on other teams, dont even try to argue ur point. hes not streaky, hes only been streaky for us in the FEW games we have had him, which is very understandable considering how poorly his teammates have been performing

i think monta will
help belinelli out by driving and dishing, because when belinelli dont bring the ball up he gets stuck in the corner a lot waiting for the ball. Things happen when the ball is in belinelli’s hands

Am i crazy but
I can see Monta coming back and averaging 5 to 8 assits a game this season with about 16 to 18 ponits. I mean he averages 6 the last couple game he played last year so i don’t think it’s not possible

On the subject of line-ups...
It will be interesting to see what Nellie does when he gets all his horses healthy. I know what I’d like to see but I seriously doubt he will do that. I’d probably play
PG Monta 37 / Crawford 11 / Watson
SG Jackson 30 / Crawford 18 / Marco
SF Maggs 25 / Buike 18 / Jackson 5
PF Wright 27 / Turiaf 10 / Maggs 11 / Randolph
C Andris 37 / Turiaf 11
The minutes are obviously a rough outline. I think Marco has earned the right to play from time to time at this point even though I didn’t assign him any regular minutes. The main idea here is that Wright gets to start, and Turiaf gets 20+min so we can limit the small-ball to about 10-15 minutes a game.
Also when Crawford and Monta are on the floor together they can be interchangeable at PG considering neither of them is a true point.
I left Morrow off the list but he could just as easily take whatever minutes Marco would be getting. Different types of players for different situations. Marco can create his own shot (not always a good shot mind you) and Morrow is more of a spot up catch and shoot guy. You can see now that teams know who he is he is having a much harder time getting his shot off. Then again Morrow is a better rebounder than Marco so, you know, each guy has their strength.
I don’t know how good this team would be. It still doesn’t make a lot of sense. But given the players we’ve got, that’s how I’d play them. Of course I think we’ll see even more small-ball from Nelson when Monta comes back, but I can dream right?

I wanna see
PG Ellis 36 / Crawford 12
SG Belinelli 26 / Crawford 12 / Maggette 10
SF Jackson 28 / Maggette 14 / Randolph 6
PF Turiaf 28 / Wright 20
C Biedrins 36 / Turiaf 12

I wanna see
The trouble is we have too many guards for the available minutes and not enough big men to play out the minutes if we have foul trouble or a tough energy suckinggame. I don’t believe it but Marco seems to be playing point better than anyone else right now but that raises the question why do we need Montay and Crawford both? Someone of the group Marco, Crawford, Montay,Jax, and Kabuki needs to go to be replaced by a tough big man. Our players with unique skils are Dredris, Magette, Rony, and Morrow. Our skinny kids rudolf and the gazelle plus CJ or little Nelson can handle backup duties so we need to decide which guards are worth more to us as trade value or as keepers?

i like that lineup a lot, except...
id rather have crawford and belli at the 1, and ellis at the 2
by DeepS on Dec 22, 2008 3:01 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
That's a lot of Turiaf
Ronny leading us in minutes?
Other than that, I do like. No Morrow, Watson, Kurz or Buike though?

maggette
should get more minutes, he might be struggling, but let him jell with ellis and the true lineup, then you won’t be hatin, you’ll be praisin

Regardless of what position Monta plays or if the Dubs start winning more games, I’m just look forward to watching one of the most exciting players back in uniform on my favorite team.
