Are our announcers are ANNOYING?

I don't know, it might be just me, but thats why I created this post. Im tired of hearing how every play is greater than the last, when were losing by 10, 15, 20 pts. I hate hearing how "being down 11 is nothing".  Whenever the warriors are losing, according to Fitz, it's because thats just "what the other team does". "thats what the magic do"...." thats what the knicks do"...blah blah blah and it goes on and on. Funny how everybody just "does what they do" against US EVERY FREAKIN GAME huh Fitz?. At the start of every game we hear how the "warriors are the second highest scoring team in the league", gimme a break. I understand these guys travel with the team, and, I by no means want them to sound depressing every play but it seems like there is no sense of neutrality at all and it's just way too over the top and annoying when the team is clearly this bad.  What do you think?

exactly

Best in the league

by Gurthy on Dec 22, 2008 7:16 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Definitely...

Its tough when the team is losing so badly, what are they supposed to say… Still, they do a pretty good job of calling it like it is overall. I think the only reason people are thinking about this is that the team isn’t winning so its easy to want to tear apart everything that isn’t bolted down.

haha

they are good announcers, and i like them. but i see what your saying. i think its mostly because there is not much to be happy about in warriors town right now, so they are just trying to find bright spots.

Wow... I knew this would happen

Sooner or later someone was gonna complain about our announcers… what’s next? Folks have already complained about Franco, Steinmentz, The Warrior Girls, Thunder, The nachos…. I know i forgot something lol!

wow warriors announcers are amazing! the worst announcers are lakers and spurs

by lowchi on Dec 22, 2008 5:59 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

yea Lakers announcer are awful. You wanna hear biased, listen to a Laker game it a little ridiculous. And sports talk radio in the LA area is 10 times as bad as KNBR.

by sam23 on Dec 22, 2008 6:07 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah good point, sportstalk just about anywhere else in the country is almost unlistenable. They must think the listeners are complete morons. We are really lucky here to have KNBR. If you ever get sick of it, get online and try listening to anyone else for more than 5 minutes…

by in for life on Dec 22, 2008 11:17 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Oooh, I didnt really mean that as a ringing endorsement of KNBR. Tolbert may be the best sports radio personality ever….but after him its not exactly great. Fitz and Brooks can be very entertaining but not for too long. Murph and Mac are annoying frat boy wannabe douches. Radnich is a legend and I understand the appeal to some but his act is a bit tired to me, and everything always has to roll back around to being about him. Can anyone really stand Barbieri’s voice? Never mind that he’s a complete doofus. I know he’s supposed to be the “bad cop” to Tolbert’s “good cop” in a sense, but his presence almost makes it not worth it to listen to Tolbert. And dont even get me started on that idiot Damon Bruce. How the hell that guy managed to land a gig on sports talk radio with such a limited knowledge about sports and lame gimmicks is beyond me. But still….overall its10 times better than LA sports talk which is totally unlistenable.

you should try the Celtic's

they are the most biased ever, when one of there guys commits a hard foul they say the other guy deserved it. The Rockets are real bad too. At least ours will point out positives from other teams players and at half time show highlights from the other team as well, thats not to common. Fitz can be a little bit of a homer some time but thats what hes getting paid for, Jim does a real good job of breaking it down both ways, hell some people on this blog a while ago even wanted him to be our next coach, thats got to tell you something.

no I know he’s a class act and he really knows what he’s talking about, its just his voice or something that annoys the crap out of me. Nothing personal against him, and I’m not saying everyone should hate him.

yea maybe thats what it is, he tends to talk over Fitz’s play by play sometimes. Not that I think they should get rid of him or anything, he’s just not my personal favorite. I can understand the love for him around these parts though and he’s more knowledgable than most color guys.

They’re just doing their jobs, I don’t think negativity and pessimism would bode well for their job security. Besides, I feel kinda bad for them. I’m sure they’re as frustrated with Warriors basketball as anyone, but they actually have to sit there, watch it, and comment on it.

are

Announce team is the best even on nbatv they say there are one of the best. Fitz is world renowned he called some of the Olympics, and he was on the 2k series before they went all mainstream and if you hear him on the radio he actually says his mind more than anybody.. Jim actually says it how it is and is not that homer to me at all. If you really wanna complain ill have you watch a Cavs game those people are the worst. and if you wanna hear stupidity listen to the Thunder guys.

So I don't have a signature well these words would do! Who knew that upgrades can have downgrades too!

Jim IS a huge homer. I’m not sayin they are awful or they should be fired, but try to be a little objective here, Jim Barnett is a huge homer. Not that thats even a bad thing, Kruk and Kuip are both homers for the Giants but the best in the biz

Best announcers in the league

Period. Listen to the other announcers around the league and you realize how lucky we are to have great announcers who are basketball fans first then fans of the Warriors. You think their annoying because there positive. They cant be like everyone on this site and just bash and find every fault in every thing that anyone on the Warriors does.

Barnett is fine, but Fitzgerald is biased as hell.

Whenever the other team’s player hits a few baskets, supposedly they could not be playing any better. Supposedly they are on fire. And when they miss, he says that they “are human,” in a sarcastic tone that suggests they have been getting lucky the entire time.

Whenever the Warriors are losing by less then 15, he will pull out a couple stats that look bad and say despite that, we are only down _ points!

He probably believes he is being unbiased with the foul calls he sees, but I’ve seen him overlook quite a few that benefit our team, though Barnett usually balances that out.

by belilaugh on Dec 22, 2008 8:35 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

what should he say when a guy who shoots 20% makes 90% of his shots when they are playing the Warriors?

Something different from what he says about the guy who shoots 40% making 60% of his shots maybe?

To clarify, I still like him, and don’t think he is too annoying, but I hate hearing how unbiased he is, because it’s not true. He is more subtle about it, but his bias is clear. That’s fine, but let’s at least be honest about it.

by belilaugh on Dec 22, 2008 11:48 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

He's supposed to be biased a bit...

its more of a supporter trying to keep the people watching and give them hope. he’s paid to “hype” up the warriors to the fans. right now he just doesn’t have much material to work with.

I'm glad

to see Fitz and Barnett getting so much props here. It really is well-deserved. Listen to any other home broadcast on NBA pass or Sirius… Its literally unlistenable.

I think sometimes when the team is doing so poorly it seems like they’re being homers if they aren’t ripping every posession but that would just be boring and un-informative. We know the team is bad, they know the team is bad and its not really their job to be studio analysts like Barkely or columnists like Kawakami. Thats why Steinmetz is there at halftime, away from from the court.

We are really lucky to have the high quality broadcasts here in the Bay for all the teams.

the radio announcer is way worse

fitz and barnett generally call good games and root for the warriors, as i do. i’d much rather have them point out small warriors positive notes than have someone rooting for the other team, as does the radio announcer …. Barnett one of the BEST

I live in LA, so i see the Lakers/Clips games and Barnett gives a much better commentary to the game than any of their announcers – who are a bunch of suck ups.

i also have the League pass and have to bear the opposing team announcers on most W road games and I’ll tell you, the W’s have it real good. The others are not the best and the brightest, but certainly try to make up for it with the asskissing, “We’s”, etc.

My only issue with our guys is Fitz trying to sound like an authority by paraphasing Barnett material from a couple years ago.

After living in LA and League Pass...

I have come to appreciate and lover the Dubs announcers particularly Barnett. Neither has an annoying yell/scream/screech, boring voice, or overly biased commentary.

Barnett is a wealth of knowledge and you learn something about the fundamentals and the game of basketball EVERY GAME. Dude is the truth.

FItz is aight and I love it when he says, “YES SIR!” after a big play. He also does his job as play by play without annoying catch phrases or being a huge homer.

These guys call it like it is, don’t try to detract/take attention away from the game, and Barnett always teaches the game to the viewers.

If you think the Dubs announcers are annoying you’ll probably have to mute other broadcasts.

But if you listen to the other announcers in the league, you’ll greatly appreciate having Bob and Jim as ours. There are announcers out there (like the Spurs announcers) who are completely biased and actually diss other teams, there’s also other announcers that sound like frickin robots and sound so dull.

"An air ball usually leads to an offensive rebound" Jim Barnett classic line
I hate hearing how “being down 11 is nothing”.

LOL. Our family jokes around when we are watching a sporting event and a team is getting obliterated. Someone will reference Jim Barnett and say, “they’re still in it, stranger things have happened.” Barnett seems to think being down by 11 with a minute left in the game is close.

Regardless, Barnett is a top tier commentator in the NBA. The guy has forgotten more sh*t then Jon Barry, Tim Legler and Jalen Rose have ever known in their lives about how to play hoops…

by gabezgsw on Dec 23, 2008 1:07 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Dude

Barnett TOTALLY called it when he said the Dubs didn’t look down at all against the Magic in the 2nd qtr. He said that they would chip at the lead by the end of the half or at the start of the next. They were down like 15 or 18 when he said that. Lo and behold, they made a run to cut it to 8!

I guess every team’s announcers are great to their fans.

I like watching Warriors games in CSN because of our Announcers. Whenever GSW games are televised on TNT nr ESPN, the announcers always talk about the other team.

I will always be your fan JRich. Good Luck

The best I've heard

I have NBA League Pass, and have seen at least one “home” game from the other 29 teams, and our guys are, seriously now, right up there with the best of them. Some announcers are downright shameful, constantly mispronouncing the away teams players name and whatnot. I love Barnett, Fitz and Roye, and am grateful to have ’em!

Yes I also agree with some of the other posters, I have NBA League Pass as well and when you watch the games on there you get the announcers for the home team. I haven’t seen every teams announcers yet, but I really like the Warriors announcers. I think they are pretty objective, if they put a positive spin on things, then so be it, that doesn’t bother me. They are just trying to show what the team is trying to do and what they need to do, I like that.

I really didn’t like the Celtics announcers. Those guys are brutal. I am serious, I was disgusted listening to these guys. I don’t know their names, but the one guy had that kind of fake humble/arrogance that people from Boston can have that is seriously annoying. Fine, the Celtics right now are a far superior team, but don’t be patronizing by disengenously hyping the Warriors when the Celtics are playing well. Then when the Celtics started to faulter that game every call the ref made against the Celtics was false in this guys mind. Then when the Celtics were playing better again it was all gravy and he threw the lowly Warriors a few bones in the form of fake compliments, completely patronizing. I really don’t like the mindset of Boston/New England sports fans. Except I do like the Red Sox, so go figure.

I was very impressed by the Knicks announcers as well, the main guy had a nice voice and was very objective and professional. I could listen to him do any game no problem.

Houston’s announcers I think just told it like it was which was hard to hear because they were right that the Warriors were overmatched by Yao that game.

The others didn’t make an impression either way, but I am down with the Warriors announcers, keep up the good work guys…..
