An Ultimatum to Cohen
I am going to make this official by drawing a line in the sand. If Chris Cohen if the majority owner next season, Don Nelson the coach of the Warriors and Chris Mullin is shown the door, I will never spend another dollar on anything Warriors as long as Cohen remains in power.
While reading Ric Bucher’s article this morning, I felt sick to my stomach. I refuse to go through the same excruciating waiting game again because of the incompetence of ownership. The majority of NBA owners would absolutely love to have the dedicated fan base that Cohen has, and he has done nothing to reward that dedication. I have so many good memories of my dad and me going to games in the early 90’s. After the Webber debacle my dad told me he would not go to any more games because the only way to send a message to ownership is through the pocketbook. After the Warriors marketing campaign came up with the brilliant marketing slogan, “come watch your favorite team play the Warriors,” my dad saw this as proof that the ownership did not care about the product they were delivering to the fans. Since that day, my dad has not watched one Warriors game. He still watches a lot of basketball but he will not watch the Warriors. He explained to me that it’s really not hard because “every year when I watch the playoffs, the Warriors aren’t there.”
I have not shared in his pessimism. I have suffered through the last 14 years just like the rest of you. In fact, I became a season ticket holder when the Warriors acquired Baron Davis. Going to the playoff games against Dallas are some of the best sports memories I have. That being said, I am not willing to go through the cycle again. I have already turned down the option on my season tickets. Mullin has made mistakes but he is one of the only GM’s I have seen who didn’t have too much ego to admit his mistakes and clean them up. As pathetic as it is, trading Dunleavy was one of my favorite Warriors memories of the last 15 years. Mullin does not deserve the treatment he is receiving and Chris Cohen has proven to be one of the most incompetent owners in all of sports.
I refuse to support this incompetence. So here is my ultimatum Cohen. Fix this situation before the start of next season or you have not just lost a season ticket owner, you have lost a rabid fan. I have spent a lot of money supporting the Warriors over the years. I thought my dad was overly harsh in the past, but now I am fed up too. Loosing our talented youth in order to keep a coach on his way out is absolutely crazy. I encourage others to join me. The only way Cohen will listen is if his pocket book hurts. It is absolutely sickening the way one of the best fan bases in basketball has been treated. If anyone else has a better idea, I’m all ears.

yes, something does need to be done. I am not as familiar with all the history and everything as the OP is………was the slogan really: watch your favorite team play the Warriors? Wow, I just got a little sick to my stomach………but obviously the team has made some blunders of late.
Signing Magette and extending SJax being the two foremost in my mind. Those albetrosses around the Warriors neck and pocketbook could really hinder progress of the young guys and financial flexibility to bring in different players.
They absolutely need to move both of them and let the young guys play because they do have some good young talent.
Let’s give some credit, Randolph was a great pick, Morrow was an undrafted steal, and I thnk you can say in hindsight that Wright and Belinelli were ok – good picks. Team that with Biedrins and Monta and you have a lot of talent. So the team does have some hope.
I am optomistic about those guys, but as you said, Magette and SJax do not fit at this point and I agree about Nelly, he has been awful this year as well. Maybe he isn’t the man for the job in the current situation.
If the answer the front office has for the current mess is to trade away Randolph or Wright, then they are pretty incompetent. Hopefully they don’t do that and they find a way to trade Magette and SJax, that would make me very happy.
I wrote this fanpost on this exact topic here:

I totally agree that our fan base is way too loyal to a team that doesn’t even care about their fans. And yes, the only way to change Cohan’s mind is to spend any more money on the Warriors, whether it’s going to games or just buying fan gear. But realistically speaking, I doubt that it will really effect him dramatically enough to change anything; don’t get me wrong, I want change as much as the next hardcore Warriors fan, but I doubt that there is enough people know about what’s going on behind the scenes to really know why we’ve been doing bad for these past 15 years. I would say of everyone that watches the Warriors and attends games, only a fraction of these fans know a lot about this team and has opinions on them (the majority of these people being on this site), but without the majority of fans knowing what’s going on and still supporting the warriors, just because we are yelling for change doesn’t mean that it’s going to come. And until that day where the majority of fans are fighting for change, we’ll forever be the loveable losers of the NBA, whether we like it or not. But still, I will be rooting for my team, the Warriors. I don’t support the management, front office, or most of their decisions, but this is still MY team and I will forever be a Warriors fan and support this franchise. GO DUBS!
WARRIORS BASKETBALL!!! Patiently waiting for a title...I may be waiting for a long time...
AMEN BROTHER !!!!
I couldn’t agree anymore…. I am sick and tired of wasting all my money, energy and loyalty towards what has got to be one of the worst ownerships in global sports.
They do not deserve what is the greatest fan base… I keep on believing like a sucker, that things will turn around….there is no commitment to winning or building anything… cheap ownership, bad management and still, 20,000 suckers keep on backing them up !!!!! I AM THROUGH !!!! WAKE ME WHEN THINGS CHANGE

I wouldn’t say that the ownership is cheap, greedy would be a better word. They know that no matter what, they have too loyal of a fan base to screw up their money making ways, so they could care less about winning or competing, as long as their wallets are nice and fat, and if you don’t need to work hard to make your wallets fat AND the customers keep coming, why change something that’s not broken? We really need new management that cares about winning more than making money. What they don’t realize is if they start winning, they’ll make EVEN MORE money.

that doesn't explain why the ownership group would agree to Maggette, and more so to Crawford
those two deals alone fly in the face of claims they are cheap, or greedy
simply put, they were stupid
no team (not in NY) is going into luxury tax territory if they can help it and then only if they have a chance at a ring
The Line
The line would look something like this, "your not getting any more of my money Cohen", only it would be in cursive so it would actually be a continues line. Just Some Name, I’m with you. Don’t owners realize that the franchises that make the most money are the ones who win the most? Then again, most people would choose to not work if they had a steady paycheck. Even if they would earn more money by putting in more work. What are the chances we could organize a walkout on a nationally televised game? I am frustrated that it seems so difficult to send a message. I would have thought the thousands of fans who did not re-up their season tickets this year would have sent a message. However, we keep selling out games. That is why I love these fans and why I love this team but eventually we are going to have to have an intervention with Cohen.
organize a walkout
hand out little slips of paper to all the fans walking in (you’ll need help and be clandestine) saying that everyone is “vacating their seats” as a protest at some point in the first half – begin 2nd qtr? and watching the game from the tvs in the walkways … then come back for the second half?
or shoot for getting the whole section behind the scorer’s table to up & walk …
how about some rebellious signage? Hold up the sign of choice until Oracle staff escort you out? organize 5-6-7 such individuals and have them going all throughout the game, 1-3 times per qtr.? would take fewer people to pull it off – hell, you might have enough GSoMers who’d be willing -
interesting idea – V for Vendetta-esque and might, if you could pull it off, impact ownership some …
if I were at that game, I’d hold a sign, and walk out for sure …
good luck!
OOOOOPS ...
i just bought a ticket for the dubs homegame against the thunder (at least they have a chance of winning) .. no worries im gonna return it to stubhub.. will someone tell me how can i return it then? … thanks

I spend the equivalent of a top end private school tuition on my seat. The incompetence this organization demonstrates (on top of the inedible food served at the arena) is too much to take. Fix it now or lose your base.
