What is It going to take to turn the team around???

Okay everyone.  I have seen all the rumors and the front office fiasco that is killing our team right now.  I would love to be like everyone else and say replace all of them.  But it is not going to happen.  Nelson will not get fired, Rowel will continue to have control, Cohan will sit on his high horse and collect all the money becuase we pay $80 a ticket.

Since we can't change the FO we are left with changing the team.  I feel this team has a lot of talent....misused talent.  We also have one of the biggest logjams, becuase we have all guards.  Well let me be the first to tell you that it will we have to get worse to get better.

We will not purposely tank this year... that is not what I am proposing.  Plus I think we have too much scoring talent to not at least fight for wins.  We have too much talent to truly be labeled a shoe in for Blake Griffin.  It is not going to happen without luck, and we have none.  I think we will get a mid-high lottery pick, depending on how we play when monta returns. Here is what I propose as a posiblle plan to turn us around.

First we need to deal that horrible contract of Maggette.  And truly there are only 1-3 teams that would dare take him.  Oklahoma seems like a logical choice, they need scorers and we need relief.  So...Here it is.

Oklahoma City Thunder
Incoming Players

PTS: 1.3  REB: 0.3  AST: 1.9  PER: 3.41
Obtained with a trade exception

Outgoing Players: Joe Smith, Earl Watson

Golden State Warriors
Incoming Players
Photo: Joe Smith Joe Smith Salary: $4,795,000  Years Remaining: 1
PTS: 7.0  REB: 4.5  AST: 0.7  PER: 13.73
Photo: Earl Watson Earl Watson Salary: $6,200,000  Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 5.8  REB: 2.4  AST: 6.0  PER: 7.86

Outgoing Players: Brandan Wright, Corey Maggette, Marcus Williams

Now like I said we will not get any better immediately but here is what the trade will do.  First, cap relief, 2nd give a a veteran to teach Randolph, 3rd a more passer friendly team.  Joe Smith is a solid vet, watson plays better defense than our current guards and he does not take wild shots.  Lastly, Watson will have an expiring contract in 2010.  If we have him he could be a very good trading peice going into the draft and possibly trade deadline of next year.

Next we have to do some retooling with our roster.  I would love to see Kurz waived, CJ "fastbreak killer" Waston waived and bring in some big body.  Whether it be from D-League or oversees.  I would even consider keeping Kurz if it doesn't push us over the lpayer limit.  I kind of like Nened Kristic, playing oversees and may be given a contract in January to return. (but 15 mil might be pretty high priced) However, I remember Kristic having abosolutey great games against us.  He can shoot mid range jumpers so we can have him stretch the defense as a backup to Beidrins.

Obviously we would be looking to draft another PF in the draft.  But we could really take the best talent on the board at that point, we would have enough flexibility to make moves and complete our roster.

Our team would look like this for the rest of the year.

	Monta/Watson (not CJ)/Demarcus
	Jax/Crawford/Belli/Morrow
	Azibuike/Randoph
	Smith/Turiaf
	Beidrins/Kristic

I would keep Demarcus becuase it will do him good to stay up and pratice against Monta and Crawford to toughen him on defense at the NBA level.  I see Jax splitting time at the 3 and 2, Crawford at the 1 and the 2,   Randolph at the 3 and the 4. This lineup would give us the ability to go small or big.  It will give a better backup at center and make it possible to have Turiaf in at PF, where he belongs.  Let me know what you guys think.  The only downside is that we give up Wright, and the obvious possiblilty of a declined trade from Oklahoma.  But if they get Wright I could see them going for it.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

If we are going to trade Wright with Maggette

I would hope we can do better than an old, albeit decent PF in Joe Smith. Only plus on that one is I could pull out my old Joe Smith Dubs Jersey! Earl Watson would be a good pickup though

still coming up with these?

1st of all, Kristic is being pursued by the Thunder (ironically). They just offered him a 3-year contract for $15.6 mil.
2nd, you said that we have a “logjam” in the backcourt with so many guards. but with this trade, we would get rid of a point guard who gets no playing time, and receive a guard that Nelson would actually play around with. so in effect, this would make our situation even tighter with earl watson coming in. and if we didn’t play him, it’d be a waste of a player.

Since we can’t change the FO we are left with changing the team.

note to all trade propositions: what are you guys trying to get out of this? do you really expect these to go through? you talk like we have some type of power in the warriors management. please be real.

Thank you, Dubs.

Trading Wright

I wouldn’t want to part ways with Wright unless it’s something groundbreaking. I don’t think that deal would turn the team around, anyway, if that is the goal. I don’t think there’s a quick-fix to this. I think you just have to let the young guys play and see where we end up in April.

Is this a joke?

No way… is it really a joke?

Do you really think we can get anything for maggette....

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

So it is not a joke. We dump salary and start over again. Personally, I would rather give my team a chance to win 1 or two years down the road then have to wait 5 years… thanks to that maggette deal.

I see no one else even remotely coming up with anything… just a whole lot of ????. So what more do you want.

I took everyone comments from the last month and 1/2 and put them into a decent, yes decent solution.

1. Everyone wants to get rid of Maggette ASAP… well who in there right mind would take him.

2. Most say take Randolph over Wright, but only if we can get rid of maggs. Well there it is. Once again what more would you expect.

3. Many request Randolph to play the 3. Well that ain’t happening until we have another big to backup PF and Center. Joe Smith actually is not a bad option…especially because of his expiring contract.

So I still am for it… despite naysayers. At least with these moves we give ourselves a future. Currently we will have to wait 5 years before seeing a copetitive Warriors team. I know I have no power in the Warriors management, because if any of us did, I don’t think we would have made such stupid mistakes to begin with. But when you have nothing it is tough to try to say we deserve more out of a trade… or we can do better. Get rid of a crappy contract… from there who knows, but bad contracts hurt teh present and future

How can we give ourselves a future when we are giving away ours (Wright)

and taking in players we have a bunch(Watson) and old Joe Smith? At least we get some draft pick in return if we are trading Wright.

Cap space is only good for the teams who are contending but not for the sucking ones.We will give Maggette now just for the sake of signing another overpayed SG/SF a year(or two) away from now, while losing Wright in the process.

Turn the team around?

Time and Patience. Just develop our young ones.

Also that trade is ridiculous. Do not trade Wright

I will always be your fan JRich. Good Luck

those expiring contracts mean nothing

with Stephen Jackson’s extension and Crawford’s longer contract, we will not have room under the salary cap to sign any big name free agents in 2010 anyway, regardless if we unload Maggette’s contract for expirings or not.

We need to be able to unload Jackson’s, Crawford’s, and Maggette’s contracts for expirings before we can become big free agent players in 2010.

Agree

We’ll probably have to grow our own talent instead of hoping for big name FAs.

We are not players in 2010 period

We went from having cap space and flexibility to not and its not changing. Dumb

Joe Smith and Earl Watson?

I just threw up in my mouth

by rainman120 on Dec 26, 2008 11:30 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Joe Smith at 1 year?

I would make this trade in a minute to get rid of Maggs

they are a worse team with the guy no doubt

Losing Wright might be the price to pay for being a totally dumb front office
