Trade Idea: Warriors, Miami, Clippers
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=378~497~1982~510&teams=12~14~14~9&te=&cash=
I would like to see a trade like this happen: trade away maggette + jackson and pickup either a great player or an expiring contract, or both.
Warriors
trade away: Maggette, Jackson
receive: Marion
Clippers
trade away: Kaman
receive: Jackson
Heat
trade away: Marion
receive: Maggette, Kaman
I doubt Marion can save us, but at the least he will free us up 17 million to go after Boozer. Or if we keep him we will have a good defender who can help us rebound and play SF or PF.
The Heat get a real center.
Clipper get rid of their log jam in the post for a good SG/SF.

Kaman winds up where? Or does he become one with the ether in this deal?
This deal has less chance of happening than most of the next to no chance deals posted here. Neither Miami nor LAC want underperforming 2/3 types with 4 additional years left for players who are more valuable, player positions that are harder to fill and have contracts that are shorter. There’s nothing in this deal for Miami, who would go from a potential buyer (while still being able to make a pitch to retain Wade) to a team who will be over the cap while looking for a reason to keep Wade interested in staying. The Clippers would get rid of a center, a difficult position to fill, in return for a guy who only the Warriors value enough to have given him the contract extension he’s got. They’d violate two rules in trading big for small and young for old, to get back a guy who can’t seem to shoot or rebound.

the clippers have two centers
they can afford to trade one away for a better starting SG/SF.

If only life was that simple,
Unfortunetly for us Kaman is a productive reasonably paid center that is young and in his prime. Jackson is potential headcase on the downside of his career that is signed for the next 4 years.
What is the status of our petitions to fire Robert Rowell and have Chris Cohan commit Hari Kiri, or at least sell the team?

jackson would be more than happy
to be with baron again after this season

Jackson doesnt make the trade,
Mike Dunleavey SR does, and while I think he isnt a good coach,he definetly isnt a idiot. He can get more for Kaman than Jack.

I’m not so sure. The other name thats been mentioned in rumors with Kaman is Gerald Wallace. Wallace is probably a better all around player than Jackson, but not by much and he comes with more injury concerns and just as bad of a contract.
by sam23 on Dec 26, 2008 10:14 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Sure you can even go as far as saying
Jackson and Wallace are a wash when it comes to talent(I wouldnt but I would hear the argument).
But here are the other facts
Jackson is a potential head case
Jackson is older by a few years
And the BETcats would do a straight up Kaman for Wallace
While the Warriors wouldnt do a Kaman for Jackson, unless we are then looking to ship Kaman after 60 days, if there is still time left before the trade deadline.
Fact of the matter if it comes down to a franchise wanting Jack or Gerald Wallace, I dont see many franchises lining up for Jackson.

facts:
I said Wallace was probably slightly better than Jack.
I never said the Clips would prefer Jack to Wallace.
We dont know the Cats would want Wallace OR Jack for Kaman.
I could a scenario where some team would want Jackson over Gerald Wallace…..like the Lakers for example who would value Jack’s toughness, ability to handle the ball and run the offense and outside shooting from the 3 spot. Wallace’s D would be a huge benefit, too but with the advantages Jack provides and the injury concerns of Wallace I think Jack would be the better fit for them.

Tough to say who has the worse contract. Jax has 5 more years, taking him to 35 at the end. He’s paid less now, but will likely decline more over the rest of the contract. I’ve never thought him the player so many (unfortunately Rowell among) believed him to be after last season. It’s just hard to see how he’ll be anything more than an increasing burden as the years move on.
Wallace is ever so slightly more expensive, but runs 1 or 2 years shorter depending on whether or not he opts out and could still be in his 20s by contract’s end.
Should we get Wallace, I predict that many will complain that he “can’t create his own shot” and doesn’t have any range and needs other people to do x,y,z. Should we not, people will complain as if there was a deal waiting with Charlotte practically begging for MullRowSon to pull the trigger.
by jae on Dec 26, 2008 8:34 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
but thats the fun of it!
either way theres something to complain about! I’d say Jackson probably has a slightly worse contract I guess, but they are both bad.
by sam23 on Dec 27, 2008 11:59 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I tend to agree. The yearly dollar amounts aren’t terribly different, but the extra year or two for Jax are years that aren’t likely to to productive ones.
I keep asking why Jax got his extension. I know some here at the time seemed to think it was a reasonable move and posted as much. It wasn’t. It never made sense.
by jae on Dec 27, 2008 1:39 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I thought it was when I thought it was a restructuring of his current deal and he’d only be here for 3 more years total, when I realized it was 3 tacked on to the 2 already on his deal…..ughh. I can see the argument that I think Sleepy made about it being a move that had to be made or else Jack would be upset, but the guy had to have had SOME trade value before we gave him that ugly extension. I think a team like the Lakers would be drooling over Jack right now without that extension. He may even have been enough to convince some team to take on Maggette’s contract as well.

miami
would never do this. They are trying to give boozer a max contract after this year, not happening
by FeartheBeard4 on Dec 25, 2008 5:00 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
they would get kaman though
if they get boozer and he plays PF, they will still have haslem out of position as a center.
if boozer players center, he will be out of his natural position and wont give the team as much as he could offer as a PF
kaman could play center and give them a more balanced team for less money than boozer would cost.
by dancingchiapet on Dec 25, 2008 5:17 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
why are they going after Boozer? I think those rumors are overblown and based only on the fact that Boozer has a Miami home. They are already undersized down low with Haslem playing a lot of center minutes. Boozer would be a very undersized center. If I were the Heat I would probably be just as happy with Maggette and Kaman for the same price as Boozer. Chalmers/Wade/Maggette/Beasley/Kaman with Cook, Haslm and others off the bench is a very good lineup. I think it makes a lot of sense actually.
by sam23 on Dec 26, 2008 10:17 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Miami did have interest in Boozer
when he opted out from the Cavs. I think Riley even offered a contract. The Jazz just offered a better contract.

which was about the same time that the Warriors had interest in Derek Fisher, but I dont see the W’s getting ready to go after D-Fish again.
by sam23 on Dec 26, 2008 12:04 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I dont see the correlation
Boozer was given a big contract and injuries aside has lived up to it and proven t be a quality big man. Last time Booz was a free agent Miami bid on him and got outbid. This year they will have the cap space and might go after him again. There is definelty intrest from Boozers part atleast.
Dont see how DFisher is involved. It was a horrible signing by the Warriors and Mullin was able to drop him in Utah in a salary dump. He gets paid close to the vet minimum in LA now.

the point is
just because a team was interested in a player 5 years ago doesnt mean they are now or will be again in the future.

i don't think we should trade both maggette and jackson
we should keep one or the other.
otherwise i friggen LOVE marion he’d be perfect for us!

you’d rather keep Jackson AND Maggette than clear all that cap room? Youre crazy.

eh
mario can be slightly overrated at times. he’s very efficient when there is a good point guard on the team and right now that is what we are lacking.

i didnt see your part about freeing up 17 mil…in that case, yes that would be a good trade. but i think miami is going to land boozer because boozer’s daughter is being treated in miami or something and he wants to live there…

"If you hit .440 with 20 bombs, you don't have to do s---. You don't have to bring a glove to practice, just hit and leave whenever you want. You can bring a 40 and smoke a cigarette and call me from the parking lot asking me what time the game is, and I'll tell you. You can even say 'F--- you, Steve!' Actually, don't say that, that wouldn't be very nice." -Steve Friend, Head Coach, Chabot College Gladiators Baseball

I don't understand
why there are so many mock trade proposals on this site. You guys do know that the likelihood of any of these going down as said is almost nil right?
It’s not like Mullin is going to eruse this message board and then say “hey, that’s a good idea, I ain’t never thought of it like that.” And then offer the trade up and the other GM’s also see it as a win/win/win.
Come on, let’s quit dreaming here.
I will say that I can get behind trading both Magette and SJax, unless there is a legitimate rumor of other teams talking to the Warriors about them, I think it’s kind of silly to speculate like this.
But any trade that unloads that horrible Magette contract or bad SJax extension I can get behind. If we get a big man in return or young player, or even a garbage player with an expiring contact I will approve as well.

because when you have a horrible team its one of the only things to think about. Plus trade ESPN’s trade machine is actually a lot of fun once you get goin on it. if you think it silly why would open a fanpost clearly labeled “Trade Idea”?

I like it, I think it makes some sense for every team involved. The Clips might be able to get something a little better for Kaman and Miami would probably prefer to jut let Matrix’s contract expire, but I could see all teams involved agreeing to it.
by sam23 on Dec 26, 2008 10:24 AM PST reply actions 0 recs
Agree 100%
It does make sense for all,
But Miami will probably keep its options open. Maggette isnt going to make the difference for them this year or next.
As far as LAC goes, there is an other factor. MD Sr. is fueding with Baron and the rumor is one of the will have to go. Since MD Sr. is calling the shots upstairs as well, doesnt make sense for his job security to bring in a head case like Jack that will have Baron’s back and not his. Combine that with the fact that better talent is available for a young productive center like Kaman.

Stop these stupid trade ideas, no one is going to be traded right now and Marion sux so he won’t make a difference. Besides he doesn’t have heart like Capt. Jack. Capt is our leader whether u like it or not.

marion.....
contract runs out in offseason which makes him a valuable commodity….. he does also fit nellieball and would make us entertaining for rest of season.
but sadly thats y miami wont trade him. His 17 mil contract space will be used to sign boozer
by Warriors510 on Dec 27, 2008 11:07 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
we could do some sort of maggette for camby deal...
or more likely a 3 team deal… for ex. is dallas still wants mags….. mags to dallas, howard to clippers, camby to GSW.
the best thing for maggette’s trade value is the perception he and nellie dont get along (as opposed to him being an overrated player).
clippers will have camby, kaman and randolph under contract…. 3 big making almost 40 mil… not ideal, camby is 34…. kaman and randolph r both in there mid 20s.

Ehh
I’d rather Jackson than Marion, to be honest. Here are a few reasons why:
-Marion gets steals and blocks, but isn’t a great defender, mostly because he’s often lazy or uninspired.
-Marion would not be a face of the franchise, and we’ve seen how much he likes that. He asked out of PHX, and now is averaging 12ppg for Miami. He wants to be a star, and won’t play well if he’s not the highlight of the team.
-Jackson is a veteran leader. We don’t have a veteran leader other than him, and we need one since we have the youngest team.
by bradyk2 on Dec 27, 2008 3:14 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
-call him lazy if you want, but Marion is a better defender than Jack any way you cut it. IMO Jack has gone from being an underrated scrappy defender two years ago to now being a guy who gets way too much credit for his defense. He will often make guys on the other team work but he’s far from a shutdown defender.
-Marion may not be the face of the franchise…..but even if he didnt work out his contract expires so who cares?
-Jackson is a veteran leader? Yea thats working out well.
