Trade Idea: Maggette/Williams - Smith/Wilkins Or Westbrook
Let me start with this, there are rumors going around that Oklahoma City wants to buy out or trade Joe Smith's contract.

Here is the trade, it works on Trade Machine:

Outgoing Players: Marcus Williams, Corey Maggette
I propose we trade Maggette & Marcus Williams for Joe Smith & Damien Wilkins and a draft pick or two in the next few years. While i don't hate Maggette, i don't think he has been playing very well considering his contract. This persistent thigh injury is very frustrating, but should have been expected seeing as Maggette has played 605 games of a possible 754, which is just over 80%.
He seems like a nice guy that could potentially inspire good work ethic in our rookies, but he has not been a difference maker for us, if anything, the opposite. Our record with Maggette has been been 3-13(.1875) and 6-9 (.400) without him according to Tim Kawakami.

Looking at the stats sheet, this year he has shot his worst field goal percentage and three point percentage of his career. Most of his other statistics are down also, which should be the opposite considering the pace of the warriors. On the other hand he has shot free throws at his highest career percent, a very good .859.
Williams is obviously never ever ever ever going to get out of Nelson's dog house, which is unfortunate.
This trade does not get us a great/good player, unless the Thunder put Westbrook instead of Wilkins, but it does let us get rid of Maggette's contract and get a pick or two out of it. The picks we would get would definitely be good considering the Thunder suck...
Smith's contract is going to expire this year and Wilkins goes through next year for 3.3 million, which is much easier to stomach then Maggette's remaining BACKLOADED 50 million.
Oh and the best part is we get another one of our mid 90's number one overall picks back ala the Webber experiment last year.

hm
i’d rather incorporate wilcox in the trade instead of wilkens…
When Maggette missed those consecutive shots in a span of a humming bird’s flap,
Crawford simply looked at the bench and said, "Are you serious?"

So for you...
It’s the wrong Willy. lol

Oh goodness yes
I would make that trade in an instant, especially for Westbrook. I just want to get rid of Maggette, because I feel like having him restricts the PT of Belinelli. Westbrook would be sweet, though I can’t imagine OKC wants to part with him, he’s been solid. Wilkens would be kind of pointless, but Smith would be great to have to backup Beans, and mostly just to get Maggs gone (and opens cap space!). I don’t really want Wilcox anymore, now that we have Turiaf. They’re essentially the same player except Turiaf is…..cooler. and blocks more shots.

Westbrook has been solid? You must mean something different by that word than what I think it’s meant. Westbrook hasn’t shot well and has turned the ball over a bunch. He’s far from solid. He’s a work in progress who may turn into a good player, but if he’s “solid”, “solid” must not mean “playing well enough to help you win games.”
by jae on Dec 27, 2008 3:20 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I meant solid
For the Thunder. It doesn’t take much to be solid for a 3 win team. ;)
Ok, so maybe he hasn’t been super solid, but he’s been OKC’s 3rd best player. he’s shown glimpses, and either way, I don’t think they want to get rid of him.

Yea
Westbrook is still very young and was their high lottery pick in the last draft. He’s already shown some potential to be a good player in the future. Anyways, I’m sure the Thunder would much rather give up a role player in Wilkins than Westbrook.

I don't think OKC will do it.
If they’re looking to get rid of Joe’s contract, why would they accept a bigger and longer one?
The only way I see us trading C-Mag is if Ellis, BW, Marco, or AR is included.
Hasheem "The Dream" Thabeet or Brandon Jennings. A Warrior in 09.
With the 6th Pick in the 2009 MLB Draft, the SF Giants pick Donovan Tate.
Andre Smith in Silver & Black in 2009.

Yikes
That’s unfortunate, if true. I’d love to lose Maggs. I don’t know why OKC wouldn’t take on his contract though….they’re bad enough that they have no chance of picking up a nice FA, so all their talent will come in draft and trade forms.

cause they suck...
and mags will make them better. they dont want worst record of all time…
watson, durant, mags, green, wilcox….. respectable starting 5….. not good but atleast entertaining.

i just noticed
maggs has never played an 82 game season
by ccross on Dec 27, 2008 2:45 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
OKC might do it
If you look at their roster/salary cap they have plenty of money to spend, and they lack a bona fide scorer. Maggette is a dependable scorer and could do wonders for their team seeing as their only real scorer is Durant. Also Maggette’s contract would work out fine, it would expire as soon as their youth needs to be resigned. So i don’t think they would feel any serious consequences from taking his contract.

Forgot to mention, he is a veteran presence that their rookies can at least look to. They really have no good veterans.. So my point is you never know, i think they are our best chance to lose his contract.

I also think Maggette's style of play suits the Thunder right now....

Style?
Mags is a clone of Durant, or the other way around, a slasher that has slightly above average outside range and rebounds pretty well. Why would they want an injury-prone version of Durant, with much less potential going forward?

if ur team could possibly have worst record of all time...
and cant score at all, wouldnt you want to add a player who will help u win OCCASIONALLY
by Warriors510 on Dec 27, 2008 7:44 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
if he played..
once in a while then I could realistically see him helping the team out but hes injured way too much to make a huge impact and as our tacticians above stated, he hasnt helped GSW win when hes in.
When hes healthy there i s no denying that he is a very good player though. 20/7/4 is his highest potential IMO.

Durant
has the second best 3 point % in the league. I’d say that’s better than slightly above average outside range.
by Captain Jack on Dec 28, 2008 1:04 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Durant
your right, he’s in the top 10, but not even in the top 50 in attempts so I see him as a guy who takes smart 3 pointers. But I’ll definetely correct myself and say he is a good outside shooter. In any case this shows that they have a better version of Maggette and should not want him on their team with the length of his contract and the injury risk.

beautiful trade man excellent work
seriously this is the best trade i’ve seen floating around for a while. 2010 we have CASH MONEY to work with after damien is off the books!

and with any luck, kerr messes up phoenix so much amare wants out!
by Warriors510 on Dec 27, 2008 7:45 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
two things
1) the Plunder are never going to trade westbrook, he is a part of sam presti’s rebuilding core, and the defensive minded guard that team has been needing for years.
2) just a tip from a seattle basketball fan: damien wilkins is garbage. no warrior fan should want the guy (except to see at the end of the bench or to clear cap space). He takes terrible shots that are out of his range (in painstaking rapidity), dribbles out the shot clock while not creating shots for any teammates, and has below average defensive skills. in my opinion, is better suited for AAU basketball in greater Atlanta

dude
if we trade maggs and get wesbrook, than okc is run by morons, and have you seen joe smith play? i rather have wilcox

Don't see it
Why on earth would they want Maggette? They have Green and Durant at the 3 and 4 and really don’t don’t need another slasher.
I could see landing Wilcox for Bellinelli or something, although I wouldn’t want to make that trade personally
