No roster shakeup for Warriors [SFGate]
But there will be a front office shakeup if it hasn't happened already. In Nellie and Riley we trust.

maggs stays…
When Maggette missed those consecutive shots in a span of a humming bird’s flap,
Crawford simply looked at the bench and said, "Are you serious?"

We’re long suffering Warriors fans so pretty much blind faith hoping for something good. Just trying to give the man some support. He is Nellie’s right hand man and has been in the NBA as a coach and scout for quite some time, so how bad can his personnel decisions really be? I mean how much worse can it be compared to the Twardzik, St. Jean, and Mullin ineptitude? Todd Fuller, Jason Caffey, Mookie Blaylock for the Jet, Foyle/ Murphy/ Dunleavy All-Star front court, etc.
Yo FJ- “What’s wrong with you? Why are you always so negative? Can’t you be positive and just BELIEVE? Are you even a Warriors fan? Don’t question or criticize the Warriors ownership and front office. You shouldn’t be allowed to write for this blog!”

Shuddering

Have you considered that this kind of fan attitude is not only the result of bad play and bad management over the years but might also be the cause of it? Or at least the reason for any real long term positive change?
And really, can’t we drop the whole “long suffering” thing? This team has been pretty decent the past couple years (certainly entertaining) and constantly comparing it to the Fuller, Mookie, and St. Jean era is not relevant or productive. And because of the transient nature of the Bay Area, many W’s fans don’t even recall those teams or understand why they struggled for so long.

Huh? Have you read anything I’ve written over the past 3.5 years?

They’ve missed the playoffs 14 out of the past 15 seasons. That’s not pretty decent at all. That’s horrible.
And because of the transient nature of the Bay Area
Where did you get that?
many W’s fans don’t even recall those teams or understand why they struggled for so long.
What does that have to do with the many longtime Warriors fans who can recall those teams and do understand why they’ve struggled for so long?

I have read many of your posts. I agree with many of them, and I disagree with many of them. In either case, I welcome your opinions.
While I agree that the team is “long suffering” by your criteria, I was only referring to the past few seasons, both over .500 years. Over .500 sounds “pretty decent” in the Western Conference.
And I just hope you know many Warriors fans are not “long suffering.” Many are new to the Bay Area (you are aware that people from other parts of the country are allowed to move around and many come to this desirable location?). In fact, many couldn’t care less about St. Jean, Chris Mills, or Brian Winters. None are relevant to the “We Believe” era and none are relevant today. I understand that the “long suffering” remember those bad times, but that’s all it is: History. And what do you do with history? You learn from it.

Exactly...
and the Warrios have not learned from history. Whether or not every Warrior fan today is ‘long suffering’ is irrelevant. If you started following the team during We Believe, check back in a few years and lets see if you look back on the decisions made during that time and ‘damn, why did they trade J Rich, or let Baron walk, or let Rowell make basketball decisions…’ Then maybe you’ll understand the importance of what happened with C Webb, and St Jean, and Twardzik, and Todd Fuller.

Where do I start...
Dude, do you really think the last 15 years of failure don’t matter just because you don’t remember them or didn’t live here then? Whats happening now is a direct result of the failures of the front office of this team and its possible they are continuing their inability to take the team in a positive direction… It totally legitimate and relevant to raise these points whether some people understand it or not.

it's funny
you line up behind a guy who has done absolutely nothing in an nba front office, yet you refuse to support players of the team who have proven time and again that they can play effectively and produce (biedrins, belinelli). the man crush u have on nelson is sickening

I’m just wiling to give Riley a chance before saying it’s the end of the world. What’s wrong with that? He’s got credentials, experience, and Nellie’s vote. Mullin had infinitely less going for him when Cohan pulled that publicity stunt and elevated him to VP/GM.
I’ve praised and supported Biedrins numerous times- check my report card from 07. He’s been the most consistent Warriors this season. Without him this team would be OKC Thunder bad.
Belinelli has had about 5 good games, so please explain to me how he has “proven time and again”?
I don’t write:
- FIRE NELLIE!
- KEEP MULLIN!
- TRADE MAGGETTE!
- TRADE CRAWFORD!
- TRADE JACK!
- PLAY WRIGHT!
- PLAY RANDOLPH!
- SHOOT IT BELINELLI!
- CUT KURZ!
- DON’T FINE MONTA!
Maybe if I did folks wouldn’t be hating. Such is life when you hold the minority opinions.

At this point, I think that simply deciding that someone is in charge of basketball decisions will be a plus (OK, so long as that person isn’t Rowell or Cohan) as the three headed monster seems to be a failure that could soon rival Twardzik in the level of its stupidity. We don’t really know who has been in charge of which decisions over the last couple of years (did Mullin leverage the Dunleavy/Murphy trade? Was Nellie the principle influence; who decided to draft Randolph? Did anyone other than Rowell want to extend Jax?) but the total lack of clarity suggests to me that management itself isn’t on the same page. That’s never a good thing.

soon rival Twardzik in the level of its stupidity.
great quote from the above cited article, riley was asked about the current roster and had this to say:
But we’ve got to figure out what this team has got and what they can actually do."
are you kidding me? shouldn’t SOMEONE have figured that out BEFORE signing/trading for guys like maggs, jamal “2-11 isn’t really bad enough that i will stop shooting” crawford and extending jax? it’s this kind of blind management style that has led us here. they self inflict wounds and then turn around and blame those wounds as the reasons we can’t consistently win.

[It’s] a situation where you’ve got a guy who drove the bus into the ditch. You obviously have to get the bus out of the ditch, and that’s not easy to do, although you probably should fire the driver.

It definitely is a case of self-inflicted wounds.
That’s what i’m worried about. How can we take steps forward if we keep shooting ourselves in the foot?
I think no matter what your perspective is, the one thing you can’t argue is that our front office isn’t functioning right. I think we do need a clear leader in the FO and people around him to lead his vision. Right now i’d even say the Knicks have a brighter future than us. They hired a smart GM and the smartest decision they ever made (besides firing Isiah, which was 2 years too late imo) was hiring Mike D’Antoni. They have a clear vision and are not straying from it. I would rather go through 2 downtrodden years, than a decade of mediocrity (30-42 wins).
With the right management we can turn this thing around. Remember everyone thought it’d take the Knicks awhile to bounce back, but they are well on their way. I really felt like Mullin was taking us there with the drafting of BW, AR and Marco. Not to mention the smart pickups of AB and Monta. He was even correcting his previous mistakes (Dun/Murph/Ike). I don’t know who was the main person behind the Maggette deal, but it sounds like Mullin at least wanted Baron first. Rowell vetoed it and voila, you get Maggette!
My hunch tells me that this was a Rowell move. Maggette is not a Nellie type player. Mullin wanted Baron, GA, and EB. I guess Maggette was Plan D. Rowell should no longer be allowed in scouting meetings.
I honestly think we need to go through a full scale rebuild mode, instead of constant retooling.

i just wonder how the W's can accomplish a full scale rebuild when they can't even retool a 48 win team to be a marginal contender

I’m fine with everything in this interview. All makes sense to me.
That’s not to say the roster’s good as is… it’s a horrible mess. But waiting to see what we have is a fine thing. This franchise has rushed into changes before that haven’t done it any favors. And I doubt anybody’s trade value is going to go down over the next couple months; if anything, a guy like Maggette will only increase in trade value once he returns.
This is a lost season. Given that, it’s not unreasonable to evaluate all the talent to finish the year and then worry about trading in the summer. I’m all for that mindset.

Agree...
At this point I’m not the least bit excited to see management continue to perform the way they have been recently. It would be better for everyone to take a deep breath and let all these guys play together for the rest of the year.
I get pretty nervous when I start hearing things like we might trade Wright in order to get someone to eat Magg’s contract. Yeah, it may not have been the best signing in the world, but he’s not a bad player and there is no way we should give up our best prospect for the honor of trading him for a pile of hot garbage with a shorter contract.
I’d really like to see this team play with everyone healthy before they do any more tinkering. We still don’t know how Monta is going to perform at PG. We’ve yet to see if Crawford could be more effective (read less ineffective) as a sixth man. I’d like to see more of Wright before making a move to burry him further in the rotation. Yeah, lots of stuff I’d like to see, but mostly I’m just scared that they will screw this team up even more if they continue to make moves.
