GSW Fan Trade Opinions

Greetings GSOM,

Things with the Timberwolves are getting pretty terrible to write about. Lots of trade chatter is being thrown around at Canis Hoopus in lieu of a team worth cheering for.

So, just wanted to see how you Warriors fans view Brandan Wright and Kelenna Azubuike. Let me know if I've got the wrong impression of them:

Wright has a decent jumper for a 6'10" guy, can provide help D, often in the form of blocks, is very athletic for a 6'10" guy, hasn't looked like he grasps the NBA game yet.

Azubuike has a slightly above average standing jumper, with 3-point range, can slash to the basket and plays above average perimeter D

How accurate are those descriptions? Do you guys highly value these two?

Thanks in advance.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Those predictions seem pretty accurate to me.

Wright is starting to show a little promise, but the first thing on his to do list should be to bulk up.

Azubuike needs to pass the ball a little more, but IMO Kelenna is a very solid player, and would be a starter on most teams when 100% healthy.

It’s highly unlikely that Wright will ever be a hulking giant. He should continue to work on strength, something true for almost all players, but during the season, he’s not going to ‘bulk up’ in any way that’s going to change things.

It’s so often repeated that he needs to “bulk up.” Can anyone think of a player who has become substantially more effective by ‘bulking up’ beyond naturally filling out? There might be one, but I can’t come up with it off the top of my head. For such a commonly prescribed goal, one would think that there would be some clear examples of it being a helpful and possible path to success.

Maybe we should see if he can play the 4 then.

If they let him use a bat I’m sure he’d do fine protecting the paint.

kelenna solid starter?

he shouldn’t even be in the NBA he should be down in the D league because he doesn’t contribute anything to this team. The only thing he does that is good is once in a while make a nice lay-up or a 3 but other than that he sucks.

Your Screen Name is GSW Fan and you say Buike sucks...hmmm interesting..

Do you want Azabuike to elbow you in the face like he did to Kaman?

by AlbinoWhale on Dec 5, 2008 9:43 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

seems accurate.
Wright is a good young prospect who most around here like a lot, but Buike is even more well liked; a true fan favorite.

I hate bukie

he isn’t even good. how do you like him

by GSW Fan on Dec 5, 2008 1:57 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

actually I dont love him. He’s a solid player, but nothing special. But the majority of Warriors fans adore him thus he has more value to our franchise than to any other.

Hard to know what to make of Wright’s jumper, as most of his points come from dunks, layups and baby hooks. It seems decent, but he doesn’t bust it out often, which makes you think it’s probably not great. Wright’s an extremely efficient scorer. Does provide a lot of help D and is pretty athletic, with crazy reach and good speed up and down the floor. It seems to me like he grasps the NBA game quite well already… all the stat systems you can find rate him as a very good player. Nellie has seemed less sold on him than most other observers, but from recent interviews, it sounds like Nellie may give the guy more run in the near future.

‘Buike is not a very good perimeter defender… not nightmarishly bad, but kinda bad. Smart young player. He plays within himself, to dust off a cliche… doesn’t try a lot of stuff which he can’t pull off, which keeps his turnovers low, and doesn’t try to shoot himself hot on cold nights, which keeps his field goal percentage decent. He seems like he should be a good rebounder for his size, and seemed to be trending that way last year, but that improvement hasn’t been in evidence this year so far. Add up rock-solid offense, below-average defense and middling rebounding, and you have a decent player… pretty a solid sixth man, a great seventh man. Azubuike’s PERs over his first three years: 13.44, 13.41 and 13.47. You know exactly what you’re getting with this guy. He’s likeable as hell, so we Dubs fans are perhaps more attached to him than his production merits.

2 of our players

That I don’t want to see leave any time soon. I think we have some trade chips to work with, but I would be disappointed if they moved Brandon or Buike, unless they could land a true star.

by Aware1 on Dec 5, 2008 5:05 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Love both

But two of our best trade chips, and most likely what teams want from us (besides Monta) if we expect to trade for that PF we’ve been wanting for years (Boozer, Amare?)

by Pearlsofwisdom on Dec 5, 2008 7:44 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Thanks for the feedback

Obviously, there’s a reason I like those guys, but they’re mostly the same reasons you’d like to hold on to them.

I don’t think Minnesota would be terribly interested in giving up Al, Love or Miller (and I personally wouldn’t be interested in giving up Gomes) so maybe we’re just not the best of trading partners.

Thanks again, good luck.

by wyn on Dec 5, 2008 8:43 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

but you can have Williams, Bellinelli and Maggette……you mean you STILL dont want to give up Al or Love?

by sam23 on Dec 5, 2008 9:18 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Wright doesn't have a jumper

Buke plays below average perimeter D. Well, it’s the NBA, so we’ll just call it average, which isn’t that good.

I really, really like Ryan Gomes for obvious reasons (huge fan favorite in Boston).

Wright will be raw and bukie sucks

Brandon Wright doesn’t have a jumper but he is really tall and lanky and can block shots and has a fantastic jump hook inside. Bukie on the other hand can’t shoot, can’t defend, is a horrible free throw shooter, and only once in a while makes a nice play but other than that he usually turns the ball over.

Dear GSW Fan (?!!?)

I’m not sure how you can be a fan and think Buike “sucks”. I don’t think he’s a true starter on most teams, but he’s a very good 6th, 7th, 8th man. He has a good shooting percentage – and last btw he shot around 40% from the 3. He’s 3point shot is starting to come around this season. He’s like a smaller Maggette in that he can get to the hoop and finish/get fouled. AND, most importantly, he’s a fierce rebounding guard. I think he may be the only guy on the team that knows how to block out.

Not saying he’s current OR future all-star material, but he’s solid.

Don’t be a hater, man! They’ll come around 2nd half.

If Buke and Wright Suck

Then this team is screwed. These guys have as much “upside” on the W’s as anyone other than Randolph and Beans maybe. We have seen the best of Jackson and Crawford in their NBA careers – it is not enough in the NBA. Lets pray this critics are wrong.

On Wright, do we need him to develop into another jump shooter? I thought we had enough guys that settle for the jumpshot.

“upside”…..is that like potential?
