At times like this..... a little inspiration and a little contemplation
In these depressing times, when your team just looks like what they been the past decade, examples of determination and discipline can be especially inspiring. I want to give Manny Pacquiao his props over his dominating win against Oscar De La Hoya. Pacquiao now solidifies his number one status as the best pound for pound boxer, and a couple more Ws like this should make him one of the top ten fighters of all time.
Before the fight, many of the boxing writers saw the match-up as a joke, thinking that a fighter with height and reach, would be too much to handle for a smaller fighter with speed. Well, just the opposite happened, as Pacquiao's quickness and game plan overwhelmed De La Hoya and put the 35 year old in a position he had never been in his whole career.
In Boxing, the Pacman proved quickness and a great game plan can work if executed correctly. However, in the NBA, this concept does not seem to have the same effect. In Don Nelson's system, the small ball play has proved to work at times, but just not enough to get where his teams ultimately want to covet, which is the NBA title.
I have no doubt in my mind that Don Nelson is a hall of famer. But I think the time has come where either he has to change his style of play to a more defensive oriented team, or just hang up the gloves like De La Hoya should do. The reunion was nice......But I think now is the time to pull the trigger.

haha
nice post. I think De La Hoya and Nellie should sit down, smoke a cigar together, and both decide to hit the old dusty trail. At least for Nellie, he won’t be in physical pain for months afterwards.

Keith Smart Needs to the Keys to the Car
He is overdue. Lets see what he can do. Even though they lost the Houston game with Keith as head coach, that was only because Turiaf fouled out and Beans had too many fouls. Keep Don with the team, but now that Wright and Randolph have replaced Barnes and Pietrus, we need to play a style that is conducive with their talents.

backup quarterback syndrome
there is no evidence that Smart will be any better, and reasons to think he may struggle even greater than Nelson if he were managing this roster full of overpaid vets (jackson, crawford, maggs), headstrong youth (Randolph), young players seeking confidence and discipline (Wright, CJ, KAz,) and malcontents clamoring for more minutes and touches (everyone) – what makes you think he’s prepared to lead this roster to the playoffs? His Cleveland stint? At least Nelson has gravitas to keep the players under some semblance of direction – albeit it doesn’t appear brightest at the moment … we have time yet to jettison Nelson, and that’s going to cost Rowell and Co. a pretty penny …
