Kidd to Dallas close to complete

From ESPN.COM

Sources told ESPN.com that talks between the Mavericks and Nets, which had seemingly stalled, grew serious after the teams played Sunday night in New Jersey and have moved them to the brink of completing the NBA's third blockbuster deal of the month.

Although sources say that the teams are still sorting out final details, this deal was described as "imminent" by one source close to the process after negotiations moved to an advanced stage Tuesday night. The proposed swap -- salvaged from talks of a three-way trade with Portland that developed and fizzled quickly two weeks ago -- would require Dallas to send 24-year-old point guard Devin Harris, veteran swingman Jerry Stackhouse, the expiring contracts of center DeSegana Diop and swingman Devean George and another player such as guard Maurice Ager to New Jersey for Kidd and possibly veteran guard Darrell Armstrong. It's believed that Dallas would also send New Jersey cash and future draft considerations.

The West just keeps on getting stronger.  With the Lakers getting Gasol, Suns getting O'Neal, and now possibly the Mavs close to landing Kidd.  Does this force the Warriors to make a move just to keep up?

Well...
...The West does keep getting stronger, but this doesn't really affect our playoff standing. The Mavs were in without Kidd; they'll be in with him. The deal as stated in that rumor actually hurts them long-tern b/c they give up a share of their future (Harris) and some cap flexibility to win now.

The only deals that would really hurt our playoff chances at this point would be ones that strengthen the on-the-bubble teams right below and above us--Portland, Houston and Denver.

Good Point
It does affect us IN the playoffs though.
Either way we just have to start playing more consistent Ball through 4 quarters.

Baron on Kidd
I'd be curious what their matchups in the past reveal statistically, but my intuition is that Baron will be just fine against Kidd - particularly based on what I saw at the Oracle when the Nets were here

Stronger.... And older
Makes me think that we should hold tight (or make trades for younger players) so we can keep our young core together for the future as the Mavs/suns/spurs fade from the picture.

agreed
it doesn't look like we will win the west this year. I think this year will be achievement if we get to the playoffs and some of our younger players get a chance to taste the playoffs that why in the future when nash, shaq, kidd, hill, duncan, bowen are gone we'll have a chance to shine.

Somebody
tell all these teams that there's only one championship a year.

we've all seen that
this Warriors club can beat anybody and lose to anybody, so I'm not ready to lose all hope. I hate Devin Harris so at least I don't have to watch him as much anymore.

Couldnt agree more
I absolutely HATE the flopping whiny ass Harris. So I am glad to see him go. That way I dont even have to see him in the playoffs. ha ha ha

I remember the first time we played the Mavs
this year, Harris was bringing the ball up and Baron was coming up from behind to his right. He moved to the right to try to draw contact then he completely fell down trying to get the call, but Baron had "dodged" him and they hadn't even touched each other. Of course Baron got a wide open layup. That play sealed my hatred of Devin forever. Even if he somehow joined the Warriors at some point in his career.

atleast the Nets...
are getting some value back in the trade.  Devin Harris (signed for another 6 yrs 4 million per- not bad) + expiring contracts + plus 2 first round picks !! The only problem I see is Stackhouse.  Hes still a decent player but his current contract is 3/21.  I'm thinkin they may buy him out. Not sure where he fits with VC and RJ.  All in all, this move is great for the Nets.  Quite a haul for an aging point guard.  I guess the Mavs are banking on Kidd bringing a championship.

You're wrong on Harris...
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3017501

There's no way anybody gets him that cheap.  When you go to ESPN and somebody has a (PPP) next to their name that means the salary listed is pre-extension.  Regarding Stackhouse, the article suggested they'd buy him out so he can return to Dallas.  That pisses me off, it pissed me off with Gary Payton, it's gonna piss me off again.  Have a rule or don't have a rule.  Don't just leave loopholes out there indefinitely.

Grrr...
Anyways, that's what's gonna happen.  The Nets come out pretty well, I'd rather have Harris long term than Kidd at this point.  Plus, maybe they can milk a few draft picks too...

asdf
Didnt realize that, thanks for pointing it out!  Maybe I should have done a little more research.  Looks like he signed for 5 years/43 million.  Good call!  Either way, still a good trade for the Nets.

agree
I think it's a great trade for the Nets. If you look at the history of superstars trades it looks like they've done quite well.
