OFFICIAL: Kidd to Dallas complete

Just saw it flashed across the screen on ESPN while watching the Mitchell Report BS. Anyways this is huge because I think it takes Dallas back to the head of the pack in the West. They lose Harris, which I'm not gonna lie, I'm glad I won't have to see his flopping more than twice a year from now on. Looks like the Nets also get Ager, who could be a nice piece and also picks and cash. I guess the Nets will buy out Stackhouse and he'll be able to resign with the Mavs in 30 days. I'll post links as soon as I get them.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

all the teams in the west
are getting older and older, i think the warrior's future is starting to look pretty bright

I agree, I think no matter what move we make this year the champ. is a long shot but the more and more the west ships out young pieces to the East, it makes the Dubs future look brighter and brighter. If we can keep the core of Monta, AB, Belinelli, Wright and Buki together I think in a few years we have a legit shot at being a real contender. Also I know most people are for shipping him out but I wouldn't mind trying to resign POB also, he adds another dimension to our young core and I think he's shown some bright spots, also the Dubs knew he was a project when they drafted him, I'm really not sure why they wouldn't pick up his option for next year. It def. seems like a wasted lottery pick if they just let him leave for nothing.

One things for certain
Western Confernece Playoff's are gonna be Must see TV!

Potential first round's

  1. Warriors vs. Suns.
  2. Hornets vs. Nuggets.
  3. Mavericks vs. Spurs.
  4. Jazz vs. Lakers.
Freaking Unbelievable!
It's startling how so many people watch basketball, yet so few actually play it.

Crap
This is going to make it harder for me to beat anyone with the Dubs online in NBA 2k8 since everyone just plays with Mavs, Lakers, and Rockets.

Oh and the Suns.  I played a guy last night had Nash take everyshot mainly three pointers.  He made about 90% of them.  I got blown out by 30 points.

LOL...
You guys were probably playing on Rookie Level. I don't play anyone unless the settings on "Hall of Fame" that way no one can drop 3's on me like Nash HAHA

Keeping up with the Joneses...
A short-term good move for the Mavs, I guess, but I'd take this starting five

Fisher
Kobe
Odom
Gasol
Bynum

over this one

Kidd
Stack
Howard
Nowitzki
Damp/Diop

In a cocaine heartbeat. It's not even that close. And I think the Lakers have a better, deeper bench, too.

IMO: Lakers (with healthy Bynum) > Spurs > Jazz > Mavs+Kidd > Suns+Shaq

by Sleepy Freud on Feb 13, 2008 12:58 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

stack is gone too
When the games on the line, they're going to have

Kidd
Terry
Howard
Bass
Dirk

I think Dallas gave up too much depth and it will hurt them in the playoffs.

Stack is not gone, he is part of the trade but the consensus is that the Nets are going to buy him out and that will allow the Mavs to resign him after 30 days.

by J Rich 4 MVP on Feb 13, 2008 1:10 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Can they do that?
I thought there was a rule that prevents players from doing that.

by nautica on Feb 13, 2008 1:19 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Everything I've read points to the Mavs being able to sign him after 30 days. He could also choose to sign with another team, which if he does will most likely be a contending team. But in all likelyhood Stack will be back with the Mavs.

by J Rich 4 MVP on Feb 13, 2008 1:24 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

yea
didn't they implement that rule because of Gary Payton? or does the rule only last for 30/60 days? in which case Stack can just hang out then still come back before the playoffs

"I bet that Mike Conley could find Osama Bin Laden...if he was open."

by nativeson on Feb 13, 2008 1:25 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

the rule
Gary Payton was traded to the Hawks in the Antoine Walker deal, then they bought him out and he resigned with the Celtics. The NBA then changed the rules so that a player has to wait 30 days to sign with his old team.

Stackhouse is allowed resign with the Mavs after 30 days. There are contending teams that can offer him more money though, so it's far from a certainty.

Diop is part of the trade, so they lose a big man.

by J Rich 4 MVP on Feb 13, 2008 1:06 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Oh yeah
Forgot about the Diop and Stack "throw-ins." That makes any potential Lakers/Mavs matchup even more of a Lakers walkover, on paper anyway. Talented players over 6'9":

Also, the Mavs threw in 3 mil in cash, this years 1st round pick and their first rounder in 2010.

by J Rich 4 MVP on Feb 13, 2008 1:11 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

1st rounder in 2010
could be a high draft pick seeing that Kidd will be done before then and the Mavs playoff window closes for good.

A good deal for the Nets.  Now they just need to find a taker for a jumpshooting, no D playing Carter.

by misterjennings on Feb 13, 2008 1:24 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I just read
That the Nets are looking to swap Carter for O'Neal straight up.  But I don't think I was reading anything official, so have a grain of salt with that.

Mavs now or never
Mavs better win this year because they have no future with Kidd's old age. My gut tells me that he is NOT the answer.

I love it
Man I can't wait to see Cuban's look of what the eff did I do, after they blow it in the playoffs this year.

Flop artist Harris was really coming into his own too.  Kidd's stats are inflated because he plays on a team without legit bigs (rebounds) and has talented wing guys to pad his assists.

What's going to hurt the Mavs more than anything is that Harris is shooting over 10% points higher than Kidd.  Mavs fans, be prepared to see alot more clanks.

by misterjennings on Feb 13, 2008 1:31 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Kidd is God
I don't care what stats or numbers are listed when comparing Kidd to about any PG in the league.  Does he score the most points than the best PG's-no.  Does he throw the most assists-no, does he pull the most boards no.  The thing Kidd does is make other players very good, and I mean very good all by him having maybe the highest IQ of any point guard in the league.  Give Kidd the tools and he can really help out your team.  With Dallas though, I don't know if they are that much better with Kidd all while dumping some good surrounding players.  Dallas is slightly better with him, so I don't really see them progressing too far in the Playoffs.  The Lakers, Phoenix, San Antonio, NO and Utah are better than Dallas I think.  That leaves Denver, Houston and us as the last of the best.  Will we make it?  Man, its literally going to come down to the last game of the season.  THE WEST IS SICK!!!

by gabezgsw on Feb 13, 2008 1:43 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Kidd
does he pull the most boards no

I'm pretty sure this is a yes...

I agree with you to some extent. You can't just look at the numbers for ason Kidd. But I think even if you take everything into account Kidd's not that much better than Harris, and Kidd is 10 years older and 3 times more expensive.

bad move
They gave up too much at a shot for a ring. The only problem is that Kidd doesn't make the Mavs better than other teams that have made moves the past month or so. Kidd will have problems with Paul, Williams, Parker, Davis.
The playoffs this year in the West are going to be dependant on matchups. Who matchs up better with who. Even with Kidd, I see too many teams in the west still dominating Dallas.

by tangel29 on Feb 13, 2008 2:31 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

pretty smooth
on Dallas' part.  Because they still have their full MLE to use.

What does this mean?

Stackhouse could accept something like a small $1mil/3yr buyout from the Nets and then re-sign with the Mavs for the full MLE, and he'll still be making the roughly same total salary (6.5mil/yr) that he was before.

I guess the deal was as good as the Nets could have gotten for Kidd.  Harris is going to be a solid inexpensive PG, and everything else they got back is expiring contracts (except Stack who will be cheap to buyout and Ager who has $1mil/2yr left).

by jlagace on Feb 13, 2008 2:34 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

nets got hosed
They were never in a position of power; Kidd made it clear he wanted to go to a contender.  Do not confuse quantity for quality, the Mavs got the better end of the deal.

ãThe loss of Diop is not a big deal.  Against Shaq/Duncan/Boozer/etc, he's just a vehicle for fouls.  Damp can do that.
ãDevean George is maybe the worst active player in the entire Assocation.
ãStackhouse is returning

(-)mavs take on a bunch of money, but cuban is no rowell.

The only true loss they suffer is that of Devin Harris and 3.5 fpg.  Maybe they can bring in Derek Fisher to boost that flop statistic?

The first round picks the Nets receive are gonna suck, so long as the Mavs stay in contention...which there is no reason to believe they won't.  The nets got scrubs and a lot of cash.  Well done by both sides.

lol nets didn't get hosed
i'd like to retract my comment header.  i didnt realize kidd had 3 yrs left on his deal.  That's a lot of money saved.

by GameSix on Feb 14, 2008 8:44 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

it's debatable whether
Kidd is better than Harris RIGHT NOW. In a year or two it won't be debatable. The Nets even got two late first rounders, cap flexibility, and cash in addition to getting Harris. This is a fantastic deal for the Nets and a lot more than they could've reasonably expected.

by gsw4life on Feb 13, 2008 5:46 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

i disagree
essentially, the nets got a ton of flexibility to go out and find another jason kidd.  they don't grow on trees, and they certainly don't grow in the late first round of the draft.  Fantastic is an overstatement, as it will be nigh impossible to replciate those triple doubles in the forseeable future.

by GameSix on Feb 14, 2008 8:46 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

like I said
an argument could be made that Harris is better than Kidd right now. A rebuilding team cares about the future, and Harris will easily be better than Kidd in the next year or two.

Um .... what?
You mean with their tenuous grip on the 8th seed, and gimpy, wimpy Devin Harris stepping in to replace their franchise player?

They're getting absolutely torn to shreds by Jose Calderon and the Raps as I write this.

Are you sure you didn't mean to write "guaranteed NOT to make the playoffs"? I'd put my money on the Hawks, Pacers, or even Bulls before the Nets.

by mistererickk on Feb 13, 2008 4:55 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

the
deal isn't contractually completed from what i have read so they can potentially wait till after the all star break to sign the papers.

Seems like a horrible deal for the Mavs
If that deal is as rumored, thats a terrible, terrible, terrible deal for Kidd. I hate Harris' personality, but he, Stackhouse (who still provides instant offense off the bench) and Diop (very good interior defender, 6 extra fouls down low) will contribute more to a team than Kidd. 2 first rounders in a addition makes this ever harder to believe in if you're a mavericks fan. Ager, Allen and George seem rather unimportant.

As far as I'm concerned, this is a ridiculous panic move for the Mav's, even though its the Nets who should be dealing from a position of weakness (they have to deal Kidd, he wants out, makes too much money, they aren't winning).

Geez
I wonder what that will do for the moral of the team, about to be traded...
