Can We Make It?

I've been watching hoops for over 20 years and I haven't seen such a lopsided conference in years.  With that said, I am looking at the rest of the season as the playoffs for the playoffs.

There are 11 legit teams vying for a playoff spot.  One night the #1 seed can drop to a #5 seed and conversely an #11 seed can move to a #7 seed.  It's bizarre.  I just can't see Yao Ming and TMac not making the playoffs.  I also can't see AI and Mello not making it either.  Phoenix, San Antonio, Dallas, LA and Utah are locks.  Denver, Houston, Portland, NO and the Dubs are all behind them by a little bit.  Question is, at this point in the season, do the Dubs have concern they will even make it or do yall feel as though its a lock?

Help me out because if we win 50 games and don't make the playoffs, I'll personally write to David Stern.  I mean for the love of God, if the Dubs were in the East, we would only be behind Boston and Detroit as the #3 seed with other teams that are well below .500 as the #6, 7 and 8 seeds.

won't make the playoffs I think by the look of it right now. They are already falling out of contention right now. But same could happen to the dubs. We're neck and neck with rockets right now.

i hope
Dallas gets knocked off the list. If they can go on a mini skid it'd make me immensely happy.

announcer input
yeah did you hear the espn announcers for the game  talking about playing 16 games against one team to create a rivalry or dropping teams down to another flight if they suck like in soccer.  -No don't talk about any sort of rational way to arrange playoffs!!-puppets.  It was good to hear some love for baron tho

I don't see how any team is
a "lock". If someone gets injured it could take a team completely out of the race and one cold streak of games could doom any team in the west.

Of course
we will make the playoffs. If you take away the 6 game losing streak from the begining of the season we would be up there with the suns who we beat 2 times this season. Say if we split those six games we would be 35-17 right at the top. I'm not even worried in the slightest

Whistling in the graveyard
we have a ZERO game lead over the Nuggets, who are currently out of the playoffs. Both the Rockets and the Nuggets have better point differentials than we do.

Of course we're also only 4.5 games off the pace for the #1 seed but to say you're "not worried in the slightest" is dumbassery at its finest. Who between Houston and Denver are you so sure is going to be eliminated?

New format
I wouldn't mind if the NBA went to a playoff format where the top 16 teams with the best records go to the playoffs regardless of division or conference.  If that can't happen, i would like to go back to the 4 division structure.

Un-Lock
Nobody is really a lock right now. With just three good games from the Warriors and three off ones from any of the top teams, we could be a leader in the conference. I don't know if I should be real happy the West is so competitive right now, or real scared [Maybe a little bit of both :^)]. Anyway, I think GS is going to make the playoffs this year, probably even in the 6th or 7th spot.

The good thing is...
that the Warriors are in the hunt!

With the upcoming schedule, moving up to the middle of the pack is not only plausible, but i expect it.  After the All-star break, we should be rested enough to defeat Utah and then probably drop one against Boston (though you never know).  Then ATL, SEA, and PHI which are all more than winnable.

In past years we struggled for an ounce of respectibility.  Now we are more than just a nuisance in the playoff race.  We are a bonified threat.

This is fun!

I pray i never have to use a gun again.

hm
come on you gotta believe we can beat Boston. JRICH did it. The Wizards did it twice. The Timberwolves almost beat them twice. Surely we the mighty dubs can do it too. All we need to do is lose the Utah game to get our guys fired up.

by saintdee on Feb 13, 2008 11:46 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

well
After the All-star break we play Utah and Boston back-to-back.  In my heart i know that we can beat both of these teams, but my gut tells me to pick either or.

If i'm proven wrong and they beat both, then hell i'll take that any day.

I pray i never have to use a gun again.

out team is perfect.
Really the warriors are built
to play some serious Nellie Ball.
Might be his best team even as good as TMC, or
his Milwakee teams.Best backcourt in the league. they will outscore most teams from here on out. no doubt. i believe.

ECF champ could
have a huge advantage entering Finals - the WCF teams will beat the hell out of eachother while the ECF will be the only tough series for Boston&Detroit, they'll be better rested and healthier

Is there any team in the west you'd bet the farm on against a healthy Celtics club?

by hardcore on Feb 14, 2008 11:17 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Lakers. if healthy
Would be my bet to win it all. They have the clutchest player in the league, and no one comes close to matching up with their Odom-Turiaf-Gasol-Bynum front-line of doom.

Bynum's health is a question mark, though. If I had to put my money down  right now:

  1. Celtics
  2. Lakers
  3. Spurs
Then a fairly big drop to the next grouping -- probably Utah, Dallas, and Detroit.

Then the rest of the West: NO, Phoenix, Hou, Den, and your GSDubz...

agree
The Celtics are definitely the real deal, they're my pick to win it all.  Them being undefeated against the Western Conference proves it.

Ray Allen got injured for awhile, they didn't stop winning.  Kevin Garnett is now injured, they haven't stopped winning.  Even Rajon Rondo, Glen Davis, and Kendrick Perkins are coming into their own over there.

Plus they'll be going against the JV teams in the postseason to get to the finals, so they'll be nice n fresh when they get there.

Spurs are still the favorite
I'd go 1. Spurs 2. Celtics 3. Lakers

I ignore the regular season when it comes to the Spurs. So that means my last memory of them is holding up the Championship Trophy...

I'd probably move up NO and Phoenix and move down Dallas but that's just nitpicking - all these teams are so close to each other.

It's almost like the Warriors have 6 guys out there... they always have a guy open! - Jon Barry commentating game 3 last year
