Stackhouse could have ruined Kidd trade

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-stackhousesnag021508&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

For the Mavericks, the trouble started when Stackhouse, 33, gave an interview to the Associated Press on Wednesday that suggested there was a plan for how his trade, buyout and eventual re-signing with Dallas would unfold.

Stackhouse said that he was only part of the deal "to make the numbers work."

What's more, he said, "I feel great. I get 30 days to rest then I'll be right back. I ain't going nowhere."

It's sounds like the league would block Jerry Stackhouse from resigning with the Mavericks. If the Nets did a buy out after the trade. Too bad for Dallas...ha ha ha!!!!

No Kidding...
he's is exactly what the Mavs need to make a championship run. Crazy season.. everyone in the West is really going for it this year.

Huh?
How could the league block Stackhouse from being bought-out and re-signing with the Mavs?

by jlagace on Feb 15, 2008 11:35 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

here
it says
Stackhouse, a key fixture when the Mavericks went to the 2006 finals, was expected to be waived by the Nets so he could re-sign with Dallas. Under league rules, Stackhouse would have to wait 30 days before rejoining Dallas.

"I get 30 days to rest, then I'll be right back," Stackhouse told The Associated Press. "I ain't going nowhere."

The Western Conference executive speculated that the Stackhouse twist might have doomed the trade anyway. The executive said it is a violation of trade rules to agree in advance to waive a player. Stackhouse's public admission of a prearranged deal could have prompted the commissioner's office to intervene.

Stackhouse
If the league feels that the Nets and Mavs had an agreement that the Nets would buy out Stackhouse, then the league would not let Stackhouse into the trade since that type of an agreement is illegal. All Stackhouse had to do was keep quiet and everything would've been fine...

wow
really, I'm pretty amazed.  That's kind of ridiculous.  It's not really collusion or anything like that.

After the Nets buy him out, he goes on waivers and any other team in the NBA has the rights to sign him in that 30 day period, and he himself has the right to choose to not go back to the Mavs if he doesn't want to.

It's not like it's really a precursor to the deal happening either.  I'm sure the Mavs aren't exactly forcing the Nets to do it.  The Nets are trying to cut payroll so they'd want to buyout Stackhouse for cheap regardless.

Actually... it IS collusion!
If there's a prearranged plan for the Nets to buy him out so that he can be resigned 30 days later, that's collusion.  If there's no plan, why's he saying "I ain't goin' nowheres!"?

I really don't think the Mavs do this trade unless they can get Stackhouse back.  It'd leave them too thin, and he's a key veteran off the bench.

dumb
Stackhouse obviously didn't know the rules. So, my guess is what ever he says is just speculation on his part. And everyone con play complete denial of any agreement previously made. The bigger problem is George.

I know it is unlikley since Cuban
and Nelson hate each other but the Warriors are one of the few teams that might be able to help to facilitate this trade right?

We probably could...
Bad blood or not we are not going to be any part of Kidd playing for the Mavericks this season.

no
we don't cause we dont already got our dallas players this year with croshere and mbenga. No more.  And Nets have nothing good to offer.

Kidd could Help
but as much as I love B dizzle------dang, how many assists would Kidd get if he played with the Warriors (can you say 15---you should get 8 assists on accident a game just tossing the ball to Ellis), allwing B-dizzle rest not having to carry the ball so much and Ellis spells bth Kidd and Davis for Rest meaning Ellis still get 30 minutes a game while B and J Kidd play in the 33 minute and a game range. Truth is,  it looks like Thorn is asking for alt in return for Kidd. If Dampier is the only big man standing for Dallas after the trade (minus Dirk),  they are in trouble. Diop gives the Warriors fits.

man
those guys in Dallas need to learn how to keep their mouths shut. Guess it all stems down from the owner...

Blame the Warriors
for the debacle in Dallas.  When the 8th seed Warriors beat the 1st seed Mavericks in the 1st round it has had a lasting effect on the Mavs organization.

I have a sense that if they did not lose that 1st round to the Dubs (biggest upset in history) Cuban would not feel the need to blow this team up and go after Kidd.

Now that George is blocking the trade and Stackhouse has possibly violated the rules of Free Agency, (dumb) how can the locker room vibe be?  Also Harris and the others in the trade may feel a bit salty knowing now they we're trade bait for Kidd but might have to stay due to the trade block.

The upset has still lingers..

if...
if it is true that the league will ban Stackhouse to re-join the Mavs, Devean George should issue a press-con saying he changed his mind and would be willing to get traded. Pass the hate to Stack! lol

hahah
the mavs are scrambling because of shaq and gasol. Lets face it the Mavs chances of winning the championship was last year. they're not going to beat a healthy bynum and gasol.

They need
to control their players.

eh...
I'm pissed cuz the mavs would get WORSE with Kidd.  that dude's WAY overrated.  He really looks bad this year, triple-doubles aside.

SO
if this trade does go down. Would anyone be acceptable on Dallas going all the way in order for Kidd to finally win a championship?
