4 all the ron-ron lovers out there...

for all those that thought "tru-warrior" was our missing piece, looks like Artest isnt going to the warriors or anywhere else.  am i  the only one that hopes it stays that way?

"I am anxious to see what my future holds, [but] I like Sac," Artest wrote in an e-mail. "My entire focus is with Sac and winning a championship this year."

oh and good luck with getting that chip with sac.

Nuggets
Sacramento not done dealing
Posted: Sunday February 17, 2008 09:20AM ET

Tyronn Lue might not be long for Sacramento, as he has been pursued by Phoenix and Boston and could be used in any subsequent deals before Thursday's trade deadline. On that front, sources close to Denver said talks between the Kings and Nuggets about Ron Artest have recently restarted. The elements of a potential deal appear to be the same, with the Kings holding out for third-year small forward Linas Kleiza and likely requiring forward Eduardo Najera and his expiring contract.

______

Read a little about this yesterday...seems to be picking up steam. Camby and Artest on same team? Might be best defending duo in NBA!

I'd like to see artest spend rest of the season in  sac personally.

well
i almost want ron artest to go to the nuggets, him melo and iverson cannot coexist together, i think that team would implode. nuggets would give up someone, then not be able to resign artest, i think it would hurt the nuggets in the long run. also watch out for the mavs, if they can't do the jkidd trade it's going to be tough for those players to play for dallas knowing they were about to get moved, i think that's going to hurt dallas as well.

Even if
Artest doesn't want to be traded anymore doesn't mean he won't be. His opinion doesn't matter much anymore.

Make it happen!
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=3190~3019~3021~2173~25&teams=23~29~23~ 23~9&te=558:9-1018&cash=

Our last couple of games have highlited our problems: we don't have a shut down defender who everybody can feed off of, and when we go cold shooting we end up falling in a hole.

Both of those problems can be ameliorated in this trade that really is two separate trades.  Defense is contagious; if we got an Artest, everybody would get better defensively.  Miller always seems to thrive in games against us because he likes the tempo and he gives another accurate shooting option.  We don't lose our chemistry even though we add Artest (he's got friends here, winning creates chemistry, and we're getting rid of one person we know doesn't want to be here). We lose a bit of our future in Belli, POB, and Kosta but you have to give to get.  The only downside IMO is it might make it slightly harder to retain AB and Monta, but if Artest opts out we'd only be five million above what we would have had keeping Marco and Kosta.  If we don't sign someone like Barnes we could probably keep both Andris and Monta.

haha
Artest AND Mike Miller.. our team would be so boss:

PG Baron / Monta
SG Miller / Monta
SF Jackson / Artest
PF Artest / Harrington
C Biedrins / Harrington

lol.
i scoff at the idea of miller starting right away. especially over monta the way he's been playing as of late.

is miller really THAT good to start over monta? imo i really don't think so.

Hell NO
I totally agree with you. I dont want to watch Mike Miller(member of the 2002 cadillac anderson allugly team) over monta, EVER!

Miller and ARtest...
That trade only makes real sense for the warriors...how is memphis going to give up miller for JUST POB? and sending our unused rookies to sac for artest? I dunno unless we giving up all our first round draft picks for next 5 years or something...doesn't make much sense why memphis and kings would be interested in such tom foolery.

I second that...
that was one of the more ridiculous trade ideas I've seen on here.  Why would either of those teams do that?

by kinetic on Feb 17, 2008 3:52 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Memphis
is not looking for quality, they want to get rid of any big contracts for expiring. So to say any garbage offer to Memphis is ridiculous is true, but doesn't mean it can't happen.

by tangel29 on Feb 18, 2008 5:53 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Memphis
Yeah but they're only getting a 3 mill expiring contract out of POB---i mean they'll sure as hell want our frist round draft pick for next year or something also.

That's possible...but Kings giving up artest for that?

True
Don't know if giving up a pick would be worth getting Mike Miller as he doesn't help out our biggest need.
As far as the cap room though, trading Pietrus or O'Bryant for Miller would mean including a good portion of the TPE. This will end up saving Memphis a little over $8mil in salary cap. Sounds like though they are trying to package him with Brian Cardinal.

I would love to see Ron Artest here...
If there is a team that can actually keep him in check, it is this one.  Him and Stephen Jackson have a similar personality.  I have faith in Nellie.  He may never win a championship but I'd argue that he might be the best mentor-type coach in this league.

by ThermoElectro on Feb 17, 2008 5:46 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

jackson/artest
ThermoElectro is not alone in seeing Jackson and Artest as having similar personalities.  Certainly there are the obvious similarities of having been involved in a notorious brawl, having reputations as  hotheads, and having left town under a cloud at least once. They're also both known for defending with fervor, with Artest rightly credited for being among the best defenders in the game.

While the negative incidents link Jackson with Artest, the positives establish a clear contrast:  Jackson's teammates here, as in San Antonio, respect him as a player and also as a teammate, on and off the floor.  Artest has never had that type of warm relationship:  once the buzz about his play and about his latest chance for a fresh start wears off, it's back to the latest disconnected-from-reality statement he's made to the media, the give-him-space approach in the locker room, and plans for the next trade.  Artest would never, ever be a captain under Nellie, because he simply doesn't have the people skills that Jackson has.  Jackson obviously shows poor judgment in certain situations; Artest, like Latrell Sprewell and Terrell Owens, shows judgment that seems to come from another planet, consistently.

This is not to demean Artest or deny that he has his story and his reasons for being the way he is; it is, however, to show that Artest in no way would strengthen the Warriors as an inspirational leader, despite his outstanding skill and effort on defense.  Jackson already fills the role of I'm-playing-D-every-minute, lead-by-example co-captain.  If Iverson, Melo, and Artest equals implosion, think about Jackson and Baron and Artest. Think about Artest undermining the leadership that Baron and Jackson exert on the floor, sooner or later, by just being Ron Artest, however he got that way.

No Artest
Unless he comes with some sort of calming meds, I don't like the trade. After our last game against him, I just see his immaturity costing us some games.

Chemistry
the point's being made about artests immaturity ruining our team...but as far as i can see the warriors live off immatuirty and emotion. He's the portotype player to fit into our system. He's firey and emotional...he can play multiple positions (3, 4, 5 even)....great defender and capabale scorer. One thing about artest is he never seems to demand the spotlight and/or ball (correct me if im wrong but it always seemed like he fine just being out there...he not like talking mad trash trying to be number 1 super star--maybe just my impression). I think he could benefit form being third/fourth on the team behind baron, stack jack, and maybe monta?....he'll also reunite with some of his old teammates in harrington and jackson. Hell he could even concentrate on defense even seeing how we got plenty of scorers.

Futhermore, the warriors themselves have made comments about welcoming ron ron into the locker room. Granted this won't be a long term fit but i mean there is a good chance nellie only gonna be wrong for another year (if that?) so maybe it wouldn't hurt to get him if the cost isn't too high.

But i do think he'll mess up chemistry of the nuggets---they already seem to have trouble playing as a cohesive team (i mean for the talent they got on there they should be battling for first in west)...but at same time it can work and make them one of the teams to beat. Can you imagine having artest to guard the best perimeter player and camby as the last line of defense....

you know whats ironic
everybody wants the team destroyer and wife beater.

i'm one of the people that doesn't want him here.

Jackson
Before jack came the media and other people were saying he's a bad cat and a team destroyer to....artest been pretty chill in sac-town. Can't really say he's done anything to hurt that team. He's still very emotional and crazy even...but he hasn't like ruined that team in any way that i know of.

Artest the role model!
We wouldn't be trading him to come to OAK and date someone's daughter!
The Dubs team leaders are strong, outspoken and SJax is homies with Artest.  IMO this is the only scenario in the NBA in which Ron thrives.  Nothing wrong with a thug with a chip on his shoulder...it is a big part of our current identity.  Remember how mean Barnes was in the playoffs last year.  We intimidated the Mavs.  That was as big a part of what happened in that series as was team chemistry

by Hoof on Feb 19, 2008 10:32 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

yea, right
We're better off with someone who was convicted of perjury (lying to a grand jury), throw in some drug-related arrests and there you've got it - another great role model.

by centerre on Feb 20, 2008 3:00 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

defense
Our warriors score the most points in the league, it's defense we need. Mullin needs to find a defensive stopper to guard the 4, we don't have anyone to stop Boozer, Stoudemire, West, Duncan, or any bench player an opposing team decides to throw at us. We won't always be able to outscore our opponents and when it comes to playoff type games, we need good defense to stay close when our shots aren't going in.  We just aren't good enough right now to compete against the elite teams and Nellie knows it. Just get Artest and see what happens with our defense. Maybe we won't lose those pathetic games against Chicago or Minnesota where we couldn't stop their third string bench players.

by shootda3 on Feb 18, 2008 10:55 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Yes, defense...
I'm not sure it's even about  finding a post defender.  We'd benefit more from another long swing man who can create steals and chaos on the D end.  It isn't necessarily our game to make stops on D and rebound the ball.  Rather, we operate by forcing turnovers.  Artest would be a guy with quick hands and a nose for the passing lanes...
