4 Days and Counting

I just had to say that I am very happy the boring ass all-star game is over and the trading deadline is less than 4 days away.

Do we make a trade?
At this point I certainly hope we do not make a trade for the sake of trading.
Are there any blockbusters deals to be had out there? I dont know for sure, but I seriously doubt it.

I for one am happy with the product we have put out on the court this season. The #1 reason for my happiness is the effort they put out every night!
Sure its not perfect, but it sure is exciting!!!

Star-divide

Why I am happy with our current roster:

Exciting B-ball
Team Chemistry
Heart
Thuggity, thuggity, thuggity(any lifesavas fans out there?)
12 games over .500
highest scoring team in the league
only 4.5 games out of first

GO DUBS!

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

the west
is horrible. Did anyone see all the turnovers committed by the west? It was disgusting. I understand this is like a pick up game but at least make a effort to complete the pass. And wth was AI doing trying to be fancy.

This is exactly
why i think the game is a boring joke.

I was already sick
From those Gawd-awful uniforms.

by shadowboy on Feb 18, 2008 6:12 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

hahaha
the uniforms... I was confused for awhile there. Blue front White (it was gray but almost looked white) back. White front Gold black. It was a little hard to follow who's East and who's West.

Haha
It took me a few minutes to get used to. That was definitely a poor choice.

the west sucked!
why did it look like chris paul and maybe a few others were the only ones that belonged on the court?  David West, Carlos Boozer, Brandon Roy, and company were scrubalicous, even Carmelo Anthony.. the east was so much better.

what exactly
did Brandon Roy do wrong?

He shot 8/10.

Trade Deadline
Hoopshype has a rumor that Seattle wants to have a clearance sale: Kurt Thomas ($8mil expiring), Johan Petro ($2mil/2yrs), Delonte West ($2mil expiring), Mickael Gelabele ($800k expiring) and Damien Wilkins ($3mil/3yrs) could be on the move.

We'd fill out our team real nicely if we could pull off Pietrus, POB and a 1st round pick for Kurt Thomas, Johan Petro, and Delonte West.

Kurt Thomas is that strong post defender that we're desperately in need of.

Johan Petro is a big 7foot frenchman who boards and gets blocks.  He's been productive in limited minutes (career 12mpg), he could be the real backup center we've always needed.

Delonte West has been a pretty decent shooter and distributor throughout his career, he's someone Nelson could trust to give Baron some rest at PG.

Baron / West
Monta / West
Jackson / Barnes
Harrington / Webber
Biedrins / Thomas / Petro

My optimistic side tells me Seattle would do this to help their future (the draft pick) and they want to make room to give more minutes to Swift, Sene, Collison, and Wilcox in the post, and Earl Watson and Luke Ridnour at the point.  My optimistic side also tells me they'd want to move Kurt Thomas for the simple sake of not having to pay him his $8million at the end of the year in a losing cause.

But my pessimistic side tells me that this trade would have already been done if it were on the table.

by jlagace on Feb 18, 2008 6:40 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

This is the epitome
of trading just for the sake of trading.

Side-ways move don't ya think? This trade won't make us contenders, sure, we'll get slightly more productive players, but, None impact the outcome of a game enough on a given night to make this trade a necessity.

If Anything
They just mess with the chemistry of this team.

by GreenLightJerky on Feb 18, 2008 11:17 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Sideways? Really?
Let's see.. we get a backup guard that we don't have right now (Nelson doesn't play CJ or Azubuike)

We get a real 7foot backup center that we don't have (Nelson doesn't play POB, Harrington isn't a center).

And we get a true, proven defensive minded post defender that we don't have.

All the while, all we're giving up is a disgruntled swingman that we don't have minutes for (because of Monta, SJax, and Barnes) and a player that Nelson refuses to play (POB).  This trade isn't going to mess with the chemistry, keeping Pietrus on the team all while he's badmouthing the organization left and right is messing with the chemistry.

Yeah we're not getting any All-Stars in return, but Pietrus ain't an All-Star himself.  At least we'll get players in return that play positions where we desperately need depth on this team.

by jlagace on Feb 18, 2008 5:24 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Yes!!!!
But I don't see anything happening my friend...

by Hoof on Feb 18, 2008 5:46 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

No
West is fine, but he's not really a PG, let alone a backup PG.  Remember when he played PG for the Celtics?  Yea, not good.  He's not quick enough, not a good distributor.  He's solely a shooter, and a pretty good one at that.  But, he's not for the Dubs. Sorry.

Petro - ain't cuttin here buddy.  To say he is a "real backup center" is quite a stretch, don't ya think?  I would 100% rather have Al pestering the Yao Mings of the league, rather than this fool clogging up the middle.

The other scrubs you mention, no thanks.  As it has been commented already to your post, this is simply a trade for the sake of a trade.  If anything, this makes us worse.

Pray for the guy

plus
we'd be trading our future superstar patrick obryant... yes.. im kidding, but still i don't want to get rid of him i think he's good.

by Proof on Feb 18, 2008 7:36 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

sideways trade?
We get an upgrade at back-up point guard and an upgrade at back-up center for a guy that we've been desperately trying to move (Pietrus) and a guy that isn't playing and will likely walk at the end of the year. I get really annoyed when people talk about trading Pietrus just to get rid of him, but this trade would improve our team.

Good start...
but I don't see Seatle wanting another project big and I don't see the Warriors needing Johan Petro.
West might be an intriguing aquisition since Nelson has stopped playing Watson since his contract has been picked up.
The only guy I say we go after without a doubt is Thomas. He would provide great depth up front. Only thing is I don't give up more than Pietrus,  and a 2nd rounder and using the TPE.

by tangel29 on Feb 18, 2008 6:18 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I like the trade
Only beef I have is that Azubuike would probably be the back-up shooting guard over West, with West primarily backing up Baron. I know Azubuike's not playing right now but that's because Nellie says that Pietrus has supplanted him in the rotation with his play (whether you believe that or you believe he's being showcased for a trade is up to you...).

I agree
This doesnt really hurt our team. We just get expiring contracts that can play at a decent rate.
i hope we win a championship soon

by Da Jrich tribute on Feb 18, 2008 10:09 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

actually
that trade doesn't sound 1/2 bad.  Sideways? Sure, but look at who we lose.  Pietrus; his constant trade demands hurt chemistry more than anything; no REAL loss.  POB; if he wasn't 7ft tall, thunder would be logging more in-game minutes than him.  On the chemistry side, the only thing the warriors would be losing is the PERFECT practical joke victim.

Its a sideway trade with practically no downside and possibly a stroke of genius on the upside tip.  Wouldn't hurt, but could definitely help.

In the wake of that memphis trade fiasco,
you still feel the need to ask THAT question?

NOTHING would surprise me at this point.

ok
I can't see Mulson doing this trade in the first place anyway. Nellie wouldn't play Petro. We'd have to use West exclusively as a backup for Monta/Baron...but what about the minutes allotted to Azu and CJ? KT...still has some left in the tank. He may be useful.

But i don't touch this trade if we need to include a first rounder. No way. I still believe we can get something better through the draft than Seattle's remains.

Mullin, if i believe he makes a trade before the deadline, will be a MAJOR-Out-Of-The-Blue trade that could put us over the top. I mean really, we're not contending now, and Mulson knows it. Writers have written about this plenty of times but people here on GSOM forget-That they're only looking to make a trade if the person they are receiving instantly make them contenders (remember KG) or are productive and expiring.

I misread the 1st round part of the trade...
Now that I look at that part, yeah, you're right, it does kinda suck...

what minutes alloated to Azu and CJ?
In case you didn't notice, Nelson rarely plays CJ Watson in non-blowouts now, he's too young and too inexperienced.

Our depth is non-existant right now.  Our rotation is now primarily down to:

PG Baron
SG Ellis
SF Jackson, Barnes, Azubuike (sometimes)
PF Harrington, Croshere (when healthy)
C Biedrins, Webber

Baron and Monta Ellis are playing 45+ minutes per game, and that's not going to change unless we bring in some capable, veteran guards.
