Spurs acquire Kurt Thomas
So kiss the possibility of getting big Kurt McGurt, the ladies' flirt, mr. muscle t-shirt, whose calf muscles hurt, and always favored Ernie over Burt, goodbye...
I'm guessing that an offer of MP, POB, and the TPE wasn't enough... i like how the sonics have twerked themselves 3 first rounders in what should be a nice draft this summer..that's how rebuilding is done folks

Great trade...
Expiring contracts, and another Draft pick will do more for Seattle (or should I just say the Sonics) than having a quality defensive big man during a losing season.

wow
We could've offered just the $8mil (with the TPE) savings and a pick straight up for Thomas and that would've been a more attractive offer, because then they wouldn't have to pay Elson's or Barry's salaries at the end of the year.
either
a) we're too stingy to give up our 15-20th pick next year
b) Mullin didn't even take the time to inquire about Kurt Thomas
c) the organization doesn't care about helping our post defense and likes getting destroyed by teams like Utah
d) all of the above
Great, now the Tim-Duncan-stopper is on Tim Duncan's team.

Window
Jack: 29
Baron: 28
Monta: 22
Al: 27
Andris: 21
Barnes: 27
Buke: 24
Wright: 20
Most guys you talk to will say that your prime stretches from about 27 to 31 (Jerry West says that a players best years are usually 29-31) Most of our guys are either smack in the middle of their prime or a few years away from it.
If we kept this team together as is, our best shot would probably be in the next two years when you factor in Monta, AB and Wright becoming even more productive and more than offsetting a slight decline from Baron. Now this is assuming we stay somewhat injury free, which is of course a big assumption.
However, while I agree our best shot is in the next two years we may be able to re-tool around Monta, Al, Buke, Andris and Wright without blowing the whole thing up. We still have a lot of quality young guys who will continue to get better. Will this core ever be good enough to win a title? Well... probably not. But it is pretty hard to project the landscape in the west for more than this year.
If we hang around and keep making smart personnel decisions the opportunity to greatly improve the team may come along. The problem is that opportunity this year was KG and it didn't work out. After that there were not any other options to really put us into title contention.
