idea: sign PJ now

With the trade deadline passing quietly for the Dubz, it looks like Nellie will opt to duke it out for a playoff spot with his core of veterans.

No matter how much we get abused inside by teams with legit bigs like Boozer, we know the Wright Brotha and POB aren't going to get any burn this year.

With Beans being out for a week or 2 now, we all are hoping to see the young bigs try to contribute.  But with C-Webb slowly gaining conditioning and rhythm and Croshere back to health, we all know garbage time in a blowout is all Nellie will continue to feed our youngins.

Our team has great chemistry and on a good night, we can beat anyone, as evidenced last night. (Thank you Baron!)  As well as we are doing this year, we are still not a lock for the playoffs.  Even if we finish strong like last season and get in, it is apparent that we need another effective interior post defender in order to have a shot at getting through round 1 and beyond.

I might be an optimist, but I really feel that if we had just 1 more dependable big who can defend the post well, we could contend for the title.  Now that we can no longer trade for help, I'm thinking we could attempt to sign PJ Brown.

C-Webb in to help ignite our half-court offense and PJ in to slow down bigs and provide toughness when Beans is overmatched or alone.  He's a vet and I'm sure Nelson would utilize him right away unlike Wright or POB.

I know we'd have to waive someone in order to bring him in so just cut POB loose earlier than what's inevitable anyways.  I don't forsee POB resigning with the Dubz even if we offer him a multi-year deal this offseason.

What do you guys think?

I think
your idea makes sense, the only thing I'm skeptical about is whether Pj brown would actually sign with us, he may not deem us contender material, and this late in his career he might choose to go with an elite team that has a sure-fire shot at winning a title.

P.J. with options?
How has P.J. Brown earned the clout in the league to be picky about playing for a championship team? I think he would jump at any team that gives him a chance to contribute, especially a team that is only 6 games out of the 1 seed in the West!

What exactly is his status?
Read this recently on Hoops World:
The Bulls still own the PJ Brown trump card but they don't appear willing to sign and trade him (and thus incur luxury taxes) unless it's for someone absolutely spectacular.

Sounds like he's in Restriceted Free Agent land... Meaning that the Bulls can stop him from going anywhere if they wanted to match an offer?

Granted, that's not likley to happen, but I am curious.

I agree that it's not a bad idea to cut loose POB and bring on a vet like PJ.

That's not what that means
What the author meant is that PJ Brown could be used in sign and trade deals like Van Horn and McKie have been.

but
we've never even given POB a chance i mean cmon

ive went back and watched most all the games in the NBA leauge pass archives in which he got some extensive (for him) minutes.

yea hes a little wirey and people like shaq and duncan could easily body him but the dude is quick for a center and hes long, i was moreso impressed with his game for the amount of PT he gets

his biggest problem is that he isnt playing up to his highest calibur, with as much energy as we need from him, BUT thats because everytime he gets his few few minutes, its all garbage time, dude must feel extremely underappreciated

idk how nellie and the rest of the team treats him day to day but its partially up to them to keep him ready to give his all when he gets his minutes

hes got a 60% FG percentage, shoots 75 from the line and hes young, hes getting half the minutes he got last year and hes pulling down the same amount of boards and gettin close to the same points

i think we keep POB with monta and bieds and they grow together, if you can get some matt barnes tenacity to this guy i think he can develop into a nice back up to bieds, we just need a bulky strongman (like a brandon bass) whos defensive oriented (unlike al) to play along side bieds and pob

Best be time for you to WAKEUP...
POB is in Nelli's dog house and he's staying there until he's offically no longer a Warrior.

I think most of us would like to seem him get some burn & judge for ourself what his potential is, but it ain't going to happen...

The reality that you are failing to acknolwedge is that the one person who's opinion actually matters, thinks he's garbage.

Maybe with Andris out for a couple weeks, he's got the slightest chance of proving something.  However knowing Nellie he'll probably just give those minutes to C-Webb and Croshere.

so is kurt thomas
we don't need the guy to be amare stoudamire

we just need another big body who has proven over the years that he can defend the post and rebound since nellie wont play our unproven bigs

and if nellie wont play wright or pob, then for sure picking up a d-leaguer like boom tho is out of the question since he wont get burn for nellie either

pj brown imo is the best option out there at this point if we want to attempt to shore up our glaring weakness

no
I clearly want him to be Amare. What I'm trying to say is, at his age, all his experience doesn't matter as much, since he can't really put it to good use. Sure, guys like KT and PJ can be good at standing there and raising their hands against guys like Timmy D, but it doesn't matter much when Tim starts dribbling around them because they are too slow footed. That is exactly what happened in the Phx-SA series of yore.

Hornets in the lead
PJ's really interested in joining the Hornets .. like .. a lot.

PG: Chris Paul / Mike James
SG: Morris Peterson / Jannero Pargo / Rasual Butler
SF: Peja Stojakovic / Bonzi Wells / Julian Wright
PF: David West / Hilton Armstrong / Ryan Bowen
C: Tyson Chandler / PJ Brown / Melvin Ely

Holy crap.

Is PJ Brown...
... honestly gonna give us anything more than we can get now from genetically engineered super-forward CROWEBB?
