Biedrins possibly out longer than expected!!!

According to Ray Ratto at this link:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/02/22/SPBRV6IPS.DTL

Beans could miss 8-15 games and up to a month.

I don't know about you but if this is the case I think our playoff chances are down in smoke.

The next 3 games are all winnable without him (Atlanta, Seattle, Philadelphia) all at home.
Although Atl could cause us some probs tonight with their length and size (J. Smith & Horford).

After that though Beans being gone will make it tough on us to win against the West.  His rebounding, pick setting, and the way he finishes
around the rim are all pivotal to the Dubs success.

IMO Goose is one of the most underrated bigs in the league and his lack of presence will have a terrible trickle down effect.

Hopefully Ray Ratto is wrong and Biedrins is back in a week.  If so he would only miss 3 games, 2 of which we can easily win without him.

Go Dubs!!!

Ray Ratto
is a fat beast that just likes to stir up trouble.

I think POB is pretty damn capable...hes got hella skills.

either way the west is hella tough and it seems like we have to win every game, starting tonight...with the ATL

The way I'm looking at it is Grant Hill had the same thing done this season and he was out 11 days. Given that Hill is over 10 years older than AB, I think the timetable for his return would be 7-10 days.

It is not about being pessimistic it is being realistic.
I want the Dubs to do it as much as anyone, but with Biedrins out we are in trouble when we start playing against the Mavs, Spurs, Suns, Lakers, etc....

As I said "hopefully Ray Ratto is wrong"

Thanks for the comment.

I think we'll be fine, ATL kind of worries me tonight because of the fact they'll have Horford and Smith pounding the glass but I think we can out score them easily. Our schedule is a favorable one up until March 4/5 when we play the Suns. I really can't see AB missing more than 2 weeks, like I said, I'd bet it's more like 7-10 days.

And that other Chronicle reporter...
Well in Janny Hu's article in today's paper she gave a different prognosis:
Biedrins was scheduled for an overnight hospital stay and is expected to be sidelined for at least a week. Suns forward Grant Hill missed 12 days after his Jan. 9 appendectomy.

Professional medical opinion
I had my appendix removed at age 19. I missed only six or seven days of intramurals hoops. Since Biedrins is somewhere around that age, I'd say he's back for the Portland game on March 2nd.

I am not a doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

All my years reading Ray Ratto
He has always been gloom and doom.  The fact is you haven't seen him write that many pieces about the Warrios because they have been winning.  He has been focusing on the dismal outlooks of the A's, Giants and 49ers.

Also he gave the worse case scenario of one month.  All other indications are 2 weeks.

You just have to BELIEVE. Ray Ratto is just an overweight unattractive depressed man with a moustache.  Don't fear him.

Hm, good point
The extra digs at his weight and appearance weren't necessary, but I think your central theory may be right. It used to drive me nuts how much he seemed to relish kicking the Ws when they were down. He's like the journalistic equivalent of an ambulance chaser...

Hey I happen to be a unattractive overweight depressed man with a moustache.  What's wrong with that?

by WilliamVanLandingham on Feb 25, 2008 12:30 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

it don't matter
i hope he's out longer, i wanna see the young bigs come up. if that doesn't work out they should try signing me to a couple of 10 day contracts and see how i do. I don't necessarily have the height(6 2) or the hops, but I have an unstoppable hook shot, and my passing skills are second to none, I played varsity basketball so I have the experience part down.

Normal recovery time
would be two weeks, but like you guys said it wouldn't be surprising if AB was only out a week
It's almost like the Warriors have 6 guys out there... they always have a guy open! - Jon Barry commentating game 3 last year

Maybe....
fans should start some "We Want POB!!!" chants in the arena. It sucks that this happened after the deadline though. Otherwise, Nellie might be more inclined to play POB in hopes somebody will see something in him. His stock was already so low nobody would give the Dubs a 2nd rounder for him, it couldn't have been any worse.

Nah
You have to take Ratto's articles with a grain of salt. A big grain of salt. His writing style makes things worse than they actually are.

With his money...
Biedrins should be able to get some killer drugs and play tonight.

Arent these guys supposed to be so tough they can play through anything?

Dammit Dampier!

i think
that Ratto and the OP are just saying what is probably on everyone's mind.  Not that the Warriors are irreparably doomed, but that the absence of Biedrins is huge blow to our ballclub.  You can't say that Biedrins is a big part of our team and then turn around and say that his absence can't have serious detrimental effects to our playoff chances.  To be blindly optimistic is one thing, but live in reality as well.
I pray i never have to use a gun again.

by ssmokinjoe on Feb 22, 2008 6:59 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

it all depends on the severity of his
appendicitis. if you just google it, you'll see normal recovery time for adults is 10-28 days depending on what stage and whether you have other risk factors like diabetes. i don't know whether the fact he played 40 minutes on it the other night is a factor, but it's not unusual for it to take a month to heal - every person is different. doubt it takes that long though.

when webber had it, he was out from oct 6, 1993 (day he had the appendectomy) to oct 25, 1993 (day he was cleared to practice).

Ratto is a professional pessimist
"...he is expected to miss anywhere from two weeks to a month, somewhere between eight and 15 games..."

oh yeah? Says who? Ratto doesn't say. it's pure speculation.

Left hand, right hand, it doesn't matter. I'm amphibious.
