Us and The Nuggets
So its becoming more increasingly obvious as the season dwindles down that the last spot in the playoffs is between 2 teams: Dubbs and Nuggs. With Houston's surge and Portland's demise its between us dos to have a makeout battle for the 8th and final spot.
Those top 7 spots seem untouchable. Some teams (Dallas, PHX, NO) have the potential to slip down to our territory but they have loads of talent to ensure they will not fall down under. It seems like even if the Dubbs win 10 in a row we still might be #8. Everybody here knows about the Dubbs, but what do we know about the Nuggs this year?
- Carmelo is pissed because they didn't get any help (no Ron Ron 2.0, no Mike Miller).
- Their defense may possibly be worse than ours. (Over the past month, they have held only one opponent under 100 points)
- Injuries are piling. (Chucky Atkins, Nene, K Mart have all missed significant time).
- More Road Games than Home Games. Currently 11-16 on the road. (14 of their last 26 games on the road).
- Tough upcoming schedule. (They play PHX 3 times, Spurs 2X, Jazz 2X, Rockets 2X, Pistons 2X and Dubbs 2X).
Well, hopefully that should make us feel better about our playoff chances. So we have to root for Denver to lose because it is the same as a Dubbs win.
Any other reasons to give us more hope?

You couldn't be more wrong
Point is, the playoff seedings are hardly set at all unlike what you say. It's not simply between the Warriors and the Nuggets. Anything thing can happen with 25+ games left in the Wild Wild West.

all it takes
with that said, besides us and the nuggets, dallas is very vulnerable and im still not sold on the Rockettes although they won 100 in a row, something tells me, MeMac will break something in his porcelain body.

I still think the West is still wide open that 5 games separates the tail ender to the top tiers is not insurmountable. With right breaks, any team can string 12 wins as the Rockets have done.

asdf
12@home - 8 vs. teams currently in the playoffs
Philly
Portland x2
Toronto
Houston
Lakers
Dallas
Denver
15@away - 9 vs. teams currently in the playoffs
Atlanta
Orlando
Phoenix x2
Lakers
Denver
San Antonio
Dallas
New Orleans
I know Denver and Portland aren't currently in the playoffs but I've added them to the list because they are both playoff caliber teams. Also Philly, currently 8th and ATL (9th) both have losing records but both right on the fringe of the playoffs so I've added them in as well.
I don't know about you but that's 17 of the final 27 against playoff caliber teams, mostly WC teams, which is huge. We're going to control our own destiny with the schedule but looking at it makes it seem all that much harder.

this battle is between 2 through 9
But these will be for certain:
The Lakers will have the number 1 spot, Kobe + Gasol + Odom = Lamar Odom is your 3rd possibly 4th best player when Bynum comes back. Esh.
Sacramento will be the best club under .500 for not much longer.
Brandan Wright will average 6 pts, 7 rebs and 54% shooting for the rest of the season.
Count it.
by Squall on Feb 25, 2008 8:07 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
probably (barring a kobe injury)
that's why it's important for the dubs to not be in that 8th spot since the lakers were already killing the dubs before gasol.
plus, barring an epic collapse, as a division winner, utah will be in the 4th spot and since the NBA doesn't reseed, they'd be next in line to face the winner of 1 vs 8.
hopefully either the rockets come back to earth or the hornets continue to slide.
w/ all the moves, right now it's hard to tell who the w's match up best against, but it's pretty much a given utah and the lakers own them.

did anybody watch friday's game?
I think the only chance we have is if teams start to slip, because without Biedrins in there, its really gonna hurt us for the time he is gone, and hopefully jack is gonna stay healthy.
by celicadriven27 on Feb 25, 2008 11:18 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
mmm
Also we beat the wolves 3 times before losing once. I can understand if we got a little cocky on the last one.
Pacers was bad but so is PHX losing to Twolves twice.
Hawks aren't that bad they beat the Lakers at home.
Also we were missing jackson and biedrins
Bulls was the only one that was inexcusable.
But we better win tomorrow we can't afford to lose these EASIER ones. Save our losing for the Lakers.

im just saying...
Also, i've noticed at the games, too many bandwagon fans, the fans only cheer when the dubs do something exciting or playing well. When they are down, crowd is kind of dead, if we are the best fans in the nba, we should start proving it because the I think the dubs rely on the fans a lot.
by celicadriven27 on Feb 26, 2008 12:13 AM PST reply actions 0 recs
those bandwagon fans...
not to say there aren't ANY hardcore fans down there, I'm sure there's quite a lot. But those louder, less reserved hardcore fans can't afford courtside.
I was able to go to the last home loss of the playoffs vs Utah, and it totally wasn't as loud as everybody who went to every previous home game said it was... you know who I blame? the lower bowl. All those corporate ^&*('s sitting there nicely with their hands folded on their laps. They totally gave away home court advantage.

but
that doesn't make any sense.. you cheer when your team does something right not when they are sucking it up. You cheer when your opponent are sucking. When your opponent bricks a 3 you cheer. You cheer when your opponent blows a easy layup... you don't do it when your team misses.

correct
by GameSix on Feb 26, 2008 8:03 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
but this team feeds off emotion
The point stated previously is that they often need that energy from the crowd during defensive possessions, and I think that if you wait for them to make an scoring run, it might be too late, like the Hawks game.
As we all know, much of the Dubs' best scoring comes off of their defense.

I don't think it's BS...
I'm not saying everyone has to be a screaming idiot either (like there's ladies who scream when Monta is shooting free throws), and most Warriors fans have had to be hardcore fans to endure the last 12 years... or even become a fan in the middle of that desperate time.
Warriors fans we're the best in the league... but this season more than last year, I've noticed the opponent's ability to quiet the crowd at times. I think we were all hungrier last year. Part of that might have to do with the influx of casual or corporate fans, and maybe some of it could be due to having our thirst quenched slightly.
by Baron Von DOOM on Feb 27, 2008 12:31 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
It's probably more noticable now...
In general, I don't care whether somebody's a "hardcore" fan or not. If you're standing up and cheering constantly, great, more power to you. If you're sitting there enjoying the game without blowing out your sound box, great. Enjoy the game and root for your team. If you can't acquire/afford tickets, root for your team at home or whatever. Do your thing.
What pisses me off is people that see the team doing well, buy a jersey and call themselves a fan because it's the cool thing to do. You're not a fan if you can't name 6-7 players on the team. You're not a fan if you don't know that we made a trade last year for Jax and TMNT. You're not a fan if you don't know that we missed the playoffs for a lot of years in a row. You're not a fan if you're more interested in the hot dogs and looking cool in your "The City" #5 jersey than the game (who wears #5? I dunno... whatsizname, that guy dribbling the ball!).
There are bandwagoners who care enough to learn about the team and root for the team, and then there are bandwagoners who're there to look cool (read: celebs who started going to clippers games two years ago, but now they've stopped). I dislike the second group because it's disingenuous leaching onto whatever's hip.

I actually like...
I admit there are times when I go to games and the place can be shockingly dead, but it takes a really bad opponent run and a pretty ugly deficit to have something like that come about.......on the flipside, its damn exciting and the place goes wild when the Dubs start to widdle away at the deficit and start to come back =)

underacheivers
Also there offensive flow sucks, it's like Iverson and Carmelo just flip a coin to see who will take the isolation jumper on each possesion.
Also Carmelo is not the type of guy that can be the best player on a championship contender. Great scorer, great athlete, poor defender, bad team player, no heart.
And Squall is right, it's not a two team race, every team is one injury, or one bad stretch away from being out of it.
