So I've decided to start off my fun little experiment. I'm still looking for other willing volunteers to join me in this experiment as I cannot guarantee that I'd be able to watch the whole of every single game from this point and this experiment/study is more reliable the more games it cover. So let me know if you'd be willing to help me out. Now on to the study:
I've decided to conduct two experiments for now. I believe these two particular studies doesn't call for much except just watching the game and keeping count. I am certainly open to ideas but I think it's better to start with something small and simple then take it to another level once I get some consistent help and if this thing actually works.
CASE STUDY 1: THE PULL-UP 3POINTER
In this study, I'd be looking at how much of those early pull-up 3pointers our two best players hoist every game actually goes in. Additionally, I'll take note of how many 3s they shoot and make per game so we can see how many "rhythm" threes they take per 3pt attempt and also, its shooting percentage compared to their overall 3pt shooting percentage. I will be counting the pull-up 3s per my observation (this is where help really comes in to play) and the overall 3pt shot made and attempts will come from the NBA.com boxscore.
GAMES COVERED: 1
P3PM-A = number of pull-up 3pter made and attempted
3PM-A = total number of 3pter made and attempted
PLAYER P3PM-A 3PM-A
BARON 0-2 0-8
SJACK 1-2 2-5
CASE STUDY 2: TRAVELING AND STEPPING OUT-OF-BOUNDS
In this study, I will be keeping track of how many times a player gets called for traveling or steps out-of-bounds. I limited it to these two because these are generally unforced turnovers although I will be counting out-of-bounds play when the player is making a drive to the basket regardless of it being forced or unforced. I will not count stepping out-of-bounds while going for a loose ball or saving the basketball, unless they are the one who lost it (unforced). Because we're not starting this experiment at the beginning of the season, I'll be adding their turnover count as well so we can measure the percentage of such turnovers compared to the total turnovers they have committed. There is no need to count the possession since we're not counting their turnover rate. We're just counting how many, and what percentage, of the turnovers they've committed are due to traveling and stepping out of bounds.
GAMES COVERED: 1
TRVL - Traveling
OUB - Stepped Out-Of-Bounds
TO - Total Turnovers
PLAYER TRVL OUB TO
PIETRUS 0 0 1
BUIKE 0 0 0
Anyway, what do you guys think??? Any suggestions or additional ideas??? Or maybe willing to help? If you record the game, that'll be perfect.
