Playoff Salaries???

I've always been curious of this topic, how do players playoff salaries work?

Do they get paid for every game played? or for every playoff win?

I ask this because if a player gets paid per season is that including playoff games? if it was then players on playoff teams are actually getting paid less.

Anyone on knowledge on this feel free to drop the dime.

Good question
Article from last year that discusses this.

The short version is that generally speaking, the playoffs are "unpaid overtime", but teams get bonuses from the NBA based on how far into the playoffs they get. The bonus is divided among the players, coaches, and staff. The bonus is based on what round you get into, not the # of games played within that round.

interesting...
So, how do they decide how much of the bonus each player gets? I know some players get incentives and bonuses through their contracts. but what about the guys that didn't even play a minute in the playoffs? Do they get anything? what about injured players? and players in the d-league? what about the towel boy? and the water boy? they contributed to the team's success too, didn't they? and why are playoff tix so much more than reg season tix? ... arrgh! so many questions and points to make with this topic!
... actually, who the heck cares?!

Might be similar
to how any regular company hands out bonuses to its employees. The upper mgmt decides the amounts based on performance, tells the person individually, and adds it into their paychecks. That's how it's done at my workplace.

Problem with the article.
It only talks about what the NBA pays out in bonuses and what a player may have as a bonus in his contract. It doesnt mention at all, what the team chooses to pay the players out of their profits. There is alot more money from ticket sales, concessions, parking and playoff gear.  Part of this goes to the players. So the article trys to make it look like players are playing the playoffs, just for the love of the game. But it leaves out alot.

As I understand it.
The NBA does not engage in aggressive profit sharing during the regular season.  Ticket sales and concessions are by and large kept by the home team (or the arena depending on local contracts) as is local TV and radio revenue.  National TV games go to the Association for profit sharing as does a large, large bulk of merchandising.  The Warriors may start selling tons of Monta Ellis jerseys at the Oracle, but since they have an official NBA licensed product tag, a bunch of those $$$ goes straight to the league.

The playoffs are a bit different.  The home team only keeps a portion of the gate receipt, the rest being shared. If it costs quite a bit in terms of team expenditures to get deep in the playoffs, there's a very good chance that the team will not directly recoup their costs associated with the playoff run.

Overall, the 'profits' associated with making the playoffs and doing well aren't all that great.  It's not the case by any stretch that winning a championship means being able to make up the costs associated with it because of the revenue sharing for the playoffs.  In one sense, this keeps the playoffs a rather bit more 'pure' as winning, at least as far as the players are concerned, is about winning and not about getting a bigger check then, though of course many a player has received a bigger next contract (rightly or wrongly--Jerome James I'm looking in your direction) because of a playoff performance.

Even though getting to the playoffs won't result in a windfall for the team, in general, it's still a sound economic move to try to get to the playoffs because this means your team has been successful in the regular season and means you're far far more likely to have put fans in the seats  (and will get a bounce in season ticket sales for the next season). The ONLY thing that seems to regularly drive home ticket sales is winning.  Having marketable "stars" is illusive and the effect rarely lasts (not true of road games, but that's moot if you don't share reg season revenue).  Win and sell tickets, lose and the fans stay home.  Adding a "star" gets a very, very, very short bounce that goes away if you don't win.

Playoffs are about players wanting to win.  Players who need financial incentive beyond what they get paid in the regular season to try to win in the playoffs are likely to never get their in the first place.

what they should do
players salary divided by 82= players per game salary

x2 and you have the playoff per game salary because the franchise makes way more money on playoff games and raises the ticket prices and all that plus the game is more important so the players should get more money.

idk i think this would be cool

This might help, heres a link an some info on they
Here you go guys heres a list on how much the team gets. How this helps!!!

There's a purse split by all teams last year the purse was 10 million. This is how the purse was broken down last year:

Best Record in NBA: $288,421
Best Record in Conference, $252,369 each: $504,737
Second Best Record in Conference, $202,842 each: $405,684
Third Best Record in Conference, $151,421 each: $302,842
Fourth Best Record in Conference, $119,000 each: $238,000
Fifth Best record in Conference, $99,158 each: $198,316
Sixth Best Record in Conference, $67,632 each: $135,263

Teams Participating in First Round, $149,243 each: $2,387,895
Teams Participating in Conference Semifinals, $177,579 each: $1,420,632
Teams Participating in Conference Finals, $293,447 each: $1,173,789

Losing Team, NBA Finals: $1,173,474
Winning Team, NBA Finals: $1,770,947

so for example if the cavs win the title based on this pay scale they would split 2.6 million. Usually up to the team to decide who gets how much and it can be equal shares or bigger chunks to star players.
