OT: Haters in So Cal

Hey guys.  I was just looking up the Golden State Warriors on google news and I came across this article: http://www.newuniversity.org/checkDB.php?id=6685

Anyways, it lists reasons why SoCal sports are much better than Nor Cal, but thats not what upsets me.  The author of the article goes on to state how much of a better place SoCal is then NorCal.  Here is a little taste:

No one can argue that the weather is phenomenal in So Cal. Who doesn't enjoy sun and warmth year around? The lack of precipitation allows us to do so much more. In Nor Cal, it is always gloomy and rainy. The weather there only reflects the depressing status of the place. No one can say that they would rather have more variety in their weather than have perfect weather year-round.

The article is just completely inaccurate and bases none of its statements on facts.  I'm contacting this author on his piece right now.  If you also want to send him an email here is the address of his department: newusports@gmail.com

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

LAWL
yeah...the two months of mild precipitation that we get in the bay area just puts a damper on all our activities. i'd much rather have the stifling summer heat in LA.

HAHA
UCI considers this as worthy news? No wonder the best schools in California are in NorCal. UCLA is good, but UCI doesn't hold a candle to them. It's even more sad that he begins the article talking about how the American dream is based on SoCal. The author's name doesn't even sound like someone from America. That's irony for you. He's just whining like a baby because for every bad point to his argument he counteracts with an off-topic glamorization of SoCal. Lastly, in terms of sports, we have no control over the boneheaded moves of our front offices. Believe me, if we the paying fans had  more say on personnel moves, we'd win a few rings by now. Dust it off.

whoa
let's not get out of hand...UCI is a fine institution. you can't make a generalization about a school from one bad article...or the author's name.

also, for every good school in northern california, there is an equally good school in southern california. UCLA ~ Cal, Caltech ~ Stanford...and so on.

sorry but...
The diversity and presence of Hollywood in So Cal is intriguing to outsiders because it presents them with an ideal, a goal to reach. They see their fellow countrymen come and succeed in such a beautiful climate. One can say that is why Southern California, not Northern California, is the place for the American Dream.

I will apologize that my statement came off as being racist, but it was only in the context of what this author was trying to put forth about the "American dream." My parents were refugees, and when your home country is war-torn, you really aren't too picky about where you go. You want to just get to a better life. Lucky for my family we ended up in California. However, the author is a SPORTS writer, not a sociologist or any sort. I go to Cal, and I never once read a sports article with so little substance. I have friends who go to UCI, but check the rankings, UCI is lower ranked than UCLA. I never said the school was bad. I should have been more clear that the editors think this is worthy news? But really, the editors should take notice that cough not all UCI students are from SoCal. Shoot, Cal has a lot of SoCal transplants too. Most of which are my friends. Anyways, I severely digress. The author initiated this travesty by ending his article with phrases like "outsiders" and "fellow countrymen." Yawn, hollow rhetoric. This article is FULL of generalizations, and I hope I won't stoop this level. So again, I apologize if I came off generalizing anything as well.

I *soooo* agree....
I especially love the smog down there in So Cal. Come on, who doesn't want to inhale poisonous fumes 24/7, it's the American Dream!!!

(sarcasm)

truth beyond words
lived down there for 3 1/2 years.  I had tears of joy when I moved back.  The biggest difference?  The air.  It took me six months to acclimate myself to that stale ass, polluted air.  I was having ALL sorts of respiratory problems.  I think some of the effects are permanent.  Never had allergies before living there.  Now I'm a claritin addict. FU LA!

this aint anything new
there will always be haters in socal...but we all know that theyre all a bunch of superficial bro's who love breathing smog and paying 70 dollars for an eighth of decent weed that would cost maybe 35 or 40 in the baayyyy

those bastards
steal all norcal's water for their crappy front lawns that end up shriveling up from the crappy heatwaves they get every summer. what's the point!? lmao.

lol sweltering heat = perfect weather? i beg to differ. i love our 60 degree summer weather here in sf! now that's perfect.

Smog

Ya SoCal is great if you enjoy breathing in toxic fumes aka smog all day everyday, while being a sell out consumerist bastard...

There are beaches everywhere, ours just don't have a pollution cloud hanging over them....

GOOOOOO WARRIORS!!!!

one reason
the bay area completely owns socal- our tap water is actually drinkable. everywhere from san luis obispo to san diego has nasty tap water that wouldnt satisfy my thirst if it was ice cold and i just finished a marathon. never realized how good i had it...

Wow...
Dennis Erickson, one of the most venerated college football coaches, turned down an offer to coach at USC simply because he said the traffic was awful. The traffic is miserable, but it builds character.

hahahaha...I think he meant to say the traffic builds "characters"  =X.

I'm only gonna stick to the sports...
otherwise, I could go on forever, but...

"Oh, yeah, thank you for taking the Raiders."

Last time I checked, the Oakland Raiders moved to LA, decided that LA is a terrible football city, so they moved back to Oakland. Are you going to thank St. Louis for taking the Rams too?

"The San Diego Chargers have threatened the best teams of the last few years and have one of the best runningbacks in NFL history in Ladanian Tomlinson."

Typical fair-weather SoCal fan. I never heard of a Charger fan until about 5 years ago when LT came in. Now they are jumping on the bandwagon. You drive out 2 NFL franchises out of LA, and then all of a sudden, your allegiances move south to San Diego.

snow
simply I don't mind the rain in the bay cuz its only during winter. When it rain it snows and that means tahoe. So cal
does not compare to any nor cal ski resorts. Too many bay area residents have second homes in tahoe like me and I pray for rain. Also socal  got Hella mersh that u don't wanna touch compared to that purps we got and they have no culture besides trying to be Hollywood or celebrities. Y is it that socal
always hates on us and not vise versa. R they just jealous and need to talk about us toake themselves feel better. If socal is so great why talk about the bay. No need rite?

one more thing
i just read the article and came across this.

"Nor Cal does have the Bay, and the water that comes from it is some of the best water I have ever tasted, but it isn't nearly as aesthetically pleasing as the scenery on Laguna Beach and others like it."

this is the dumbest comparison you can make. how is tasting water comparable to scenery?????? he's just pulling stuff out of his ass man..hahaha. i stopped reading after that.

wow
That was a creative and funny read.  I love how he quoted the longtime die-hard Warriors fan - I'm guessing his roomate or something similar.

norcal franchises
have more championships than so cal franchises, 24 to 23.  and that's with the LA Raiders superbowl given to soCal.  Take away the Fakers and they have 9.  Also, NorCal's Fortune 1000 companies' revenue is more than double that of SoCal's Fortune 1000 companies.  Clearly this guy is smoking that apparently overpriced SoCal bammer.

by exl on Mar 11, 2008 5:46 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah
NorCals companies are ballers, our companies could buy out all their teams and companies, we're more for real, diverse, and we have the best schools and college teams, come on hands down SoCal only has LA for all the Fakers, There is a big scoial divide between Norcal and Socal, all I know Money is what fuels the SOCal, while Heart and pride fuels NorCal,

Biggest upsets and in NBA history While Kobe of the Fajers had the biggest scandal of his career and still gets paid for cheating lol
