Monta's AND1 Player Edition shoe

Finally.

This guy has been on the AND1 roster for 2 seasons, in which the only other recognizable player is a toss up between Rafer "Skip to my Lou" Alston & Carlos Arroyo. Monta is definitely big time compared to those two as of the 2007-2008 season, most def. Bernard Robinson doesn't even have a page filled out yet.

Also former warrior Speedy Claxton is on that list, but nowadays our boy Monta is the Speedy Warrior.

Two online shops with the shoe:

Star-divide

At $80 it won't hurt the wallet too much, but with AND1 seemingly more underground than ever, you can't really try on before you buy. For $80 it also doesn't look extremely cheap considering the $90 and up basketball shoes get the better tech or looks.

At $80 it still has AND1's version of the Nike Air(bubble) called Low 2 Ground. I've heard you need to break this one in a little more than Nike Air, but its still light years away from most smaller than OG (original-release-of that shoe), brick hard "Nike Retro" air bubbles.

The traction pattern looks okay, not great. Not much heel to toe pushoff/gradient for anyone to emulate Monta's speed as best they can - since the shoe is more of a flat sole. No idea on weight either since these sites don't list it like Eastbay or Footlocker, but for Monta, lets hope this is a lightweight shoe for quick cuts and leaking out for fast break speed.

Monta has worn the high end AND1 stuff this whole season, this I heard was considered his playoff shoe. It has the Warriors home team colors plus his #8 on the toe cap lip area there.

Props on this Monta article collection from last week, nice job:

At $80 it isn't bad to own a player edition of a GS Warrior. Hell, I don't even remember the last Player Edition-signature shoe of a Warrior. Jamison? Spreewell? I have Baron's 2003-ish "Reebok Boom Dizzle" but it wasn't made in real Warriors colors, sadly. He wore the white and blue ones with The City throwbacks though.

So any takers?

Question
Where does it say that it's Monta's signature shoe?

by Golden Boy on Mar 18, 2008 9:13 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

They're not advertising it as Monta's shoe yet
But this is the Monta Ellis colorway of this shoe.

Who's else can it be with Golden Gate Orange/White/Navy Blue and the #8?!

The AND1 site seems to be a little behind with webserver maintenance updates and advertising, but I suppose it should pick up and they might have some TV spots/commercials in time for the playoffs.

Another pic (possible sample
and subject to change in the final version),
perhaps without that snake-skin/pool water looking pattern on the blue:

"And1 Smooth Mid-Monta Ellis Editions."

Source is NikeTalk:
http://niketalk.yuku.com/topic/3093/t/AND-1-Discussion-New-Releases-2007-Samples-pg-17.html?page=33

3 places I got pics from and none of them seem to have the same lighting and look slightly different.
Man, I wish I could see these in a shoe store in one of these Bay Area malls, but I don't think anyone carries much of AND1 anymore.

I apologize
I didn't see the #8 on the shoe.

No worries,
it wasn't as noticeable or prominent until I linked that pic after your reply with a close up view.

That Onslaught linked to in the AND1shop below and one other I don't know the name of off the top of my head which looks similar.

I read news in NikeTalk (same thread there) that says they have cut down the high prices/high tech in AND1 for next seasons shoes.

They're going to go the Magic Johnson route or slightly above with the $65-75 range.

i
like it, they kind of look like old jordan lows. if this had a jordan symbol i bet some people would buy them just like those 23's i know those have good technology but come on thats the most basic looking shoe ive seen especially for a jordan! but yeah they need to give monta a shoe with more tech than he would be hella hella fast. ill get these shoes when they go to ross, just like how i get all my basketball shoes to hoop with. i love that place where else can you get $150+ shoes for 30 bucks!
What you thought that I only played basketball? I AM A Golden State WARRIOR!

i thought
and 1 got bought out buy another company?

whatever the case is, i hope monta brings them back. i honestly think he deserves a better shoe deal like adidas, nike, jordan brand, or reebok. but hey, a deal is a deal.

Reebok
offered monta a deal when he was a rookie, but his agent agreed to the and1 deal beforehand.
He never stopped running!!!

not excited
but then I'm not a teenager anymore

And1 has appeared to be on the brink of extinction for a couple years now....if Monta's play ever diminishes I am blaming the shoes and sueing And1

Dammit Dampier!

eh
Monta's my boy, but i'm not really feeling those.
I pray i never have to use a gun again.

And 1
And 1 makes comfortable basketball shoes but most of their designs aren't that appealing. This shoes for instance would probably look better without the huge "AND 1" on the side but that's just my opinion.

And 1?????
well looks like they tooks the idea from some nike hooping shoes. Not worth 80 bucks at all. If it was J's than I be looking at it.
