Around SBN: BTB's Final Preseason NCAA Hoops Bracket

OPEN THREAD: Game 68 - Warriors vs Rockets

Warriors (W-L): 42-25

Rockets (W-L): 46-22

Time: 7:30pm PST

TV:FSN Plus

Radio: KNBR 680

The used to be red-hot Houston Rockets visit the Warriors for GSoM Night 4. This is the third and final GSoM Night of the '07-'08 year and it comes right in the heart of a playoff race against one of the top teams in the West. You couldn't ask for much more.

Jump.

All about GSOM Night 4
The game has been sold out for over a week now but we still squeezed in 427 tickets sold to GSOM community members. I'm sure all of you will have fun.

  • 400 of you will be getting t-shirts - pick them up at section 212. You MUST have your GSOM T-shirt voucher to receive a t-shirt.
  • All 427 of you will be put in a raffle for free tickets, merchandise, and signed memorabilia.
Update: The winners will be posted on GSOM tonight after the game, not the scoreboard during halftime.

How about them Rockets?
22 straight wins is impressive. That's more wins without a loss than 6 teams have on the entire season. They've done it by going small, stellar defense, and good shooting. I was hoping that the streak would hit 24 games so that the Warriors could be the ones to end it but Boston stole that thunder. Then New Orleans started another streak for the Rockets, a 2 game losing streak.

All of a sudden it seems like people don't care about the Rockets and are discounting their streak. I'm surprised about this. They have 1 superstar and a bunch of very good role players. Tmac is the unquestioned leader of this team, but it's the play of Luis Scola, Shane Battier, Carl Landry, Rafer Alston, and Dikembe Mutombo that got them rolling. They came back down to earth and clearly weren't as good as their 22 game win streak would suggest, but they're still dangerous and a threat to the Warriors playoff chances.

Don't look now but the Warriors are 2.5 games up on Denver and only 1 game behind the Mavericks for 7th. For those of you scoreboard watching, Denver, a poor road team, plays New Jersey on the road at 4:30pm. The Warriors will know the outcome of that game by the time this game starts. Dallas is idle.

We can't have a letdown tonight not only because it's GSOM Night but because this is a team the Warriors can beat especially at home. Buckets won't come nearly as easy as they did the other night against the Clippers. The Warriors will actually have to work for their shots. Should be a close game throughout because the Rockets play good D (tough to score a ton of points) and the Warriors don't (easy to get scored on). Baron's 27 minute night in LA should give him fresher legs for the game tonight and hopefully the back to back with the Lakers. Everyone else needs to bring it tomorrow.

Lets Go Warriors!

Predictions

  • Warriors win by 8
  • Baron just barely misses a triple double
  • Monta shoots over 60%
  • Luther Head, Warrior Killer
  • GSOM Night 4 t-shirts go for $1000's on ebay

First time trying channelsurfing.net
And it says the game is audio only. Is that normal? Is there any other place I can watch this?

by IQofaWarrior on Mar 21, 2008 12:53 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

try...
using internet explorer. channelsurfing.net doesn't work w/ firefox. And check when it's closer to game time. There should be a stream.

BE LOUD EVERYBODY
So I can't make it tonight but I just got one message to pass along to our GSoM nation.

Be As Loud As You Can!!!!!

Seriously, being loud inspires others around to be loud. Everybody who is going tonight get rowdy, be the 6th man.

Clap, whistle , cheer, yell, scream, fart, burp, shhhht I don't care, just make noise.

Put a little mustard on it

It's a friends bday tonight
so I can't watch it. Unless the restaurant I go to has FSN+. I'm hoping we win this one since I'm pretty sure denver's gonna beat the nets. I don't want our cushion between denver and us to get any smaller. Ever.

DAMN
I really want Houston to go on another big win streak so they can get 1st place and give the Warriors a good chance at another (8 vs 1)upset. Houston is the team i'd be most confident in playing against in the first round of the playoffs. We'll probably beat them, and the Lakers will beat the Sonics tonight as well, which would make it hard for the Rockets to catch up to that 1st seed. Hopefully if Houston loses, they will bounce right back after the loss and start winning games to get that 1st seed.

What channel is the freaking game on
in SF?

I've got the Sharks on 40 (FSN) and 90 (FSN Plus).

FSN's website is no help.

If anybody could help me out I'd really appreciate it.

It SHOULD be FSN plus
according to their website. If not, you can find the game on one of the Internet sites listed in the first post. I am watching the pregame on my computer right now that way.

some games
the feel of the game tells me the Warriors will pull it out, or it will go down to the wire but the Warriors have a 50/50 chance. This does not feel like one of those games. Of course, neither did the Boston game, so hopefully we can turn it around.

If the refs wouldve called Monta's original foul
with like 2 seconds extra, would have been an exciting ending. So many little things. Like that almost 8 second call, Jackson's double clutch 3, any of those things swing our way and we probably have the game.

i
blame the fact that we haven't played any tough opponents for a long stretch of time. We're not used to playing 48 minute defense. We've been used to coasting. I think this tough stretch will get the warriors back to playing tough. Usually I am more pessimistic but this game was just too tough for me to be pessimistic about.

by saintdee on Mar 21, 2008 10:26 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Usually
when I see the Warriors lose it seems obvious what the problem was. This game, though I'm scared to say it, we looked like we were or just got outplayed. And seeing the Warriors against the Rockets in the past, that sucks. Besides the Jazz, I'm not used to teams outplaying us. All the runs we made at the end, they kept the score close, but we never could get over the top, Houston just didn't fade away.

by belilaugh on Mar 21, 2008 10:27 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

In the past
we usually faced Yao, and we managed to take Yao out of the game, giving us an advantage. The only thing I might point my finger at is possibly not enough ball movement during the game.

by IQofaWarrior on Mar 21, 2008 10:38 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

im worried about the lakers now...
we needed that win for momentum coming into the back to back against the lakers... the lakers execute better than the rockets so were in for a tough time especially against fish...

we were playing 1 on 1 ball the whole game and the defense wasnt intense against the pick and rolls... we gotta stop that...

lets collectively compose a letter to be read to the players if we could somehow do it... lets back these guys up and keep them focused and motivated.

by Fear the Beard on Mar 22, 2008 12:24 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

seriously
for most of the first half, they were mostly just coasting through the whole game. I saw absolutely no intensity in their game. Especially after they were up 16-5 or whatever, they tried to put it in auto-pilot. Wtf?

I think the crowd was able to sense how weak the Warriors were playing. I honestly was kind of bored in the first half. The crowd wasn't feeling it either.

How many wake up calls do they friggin need?? Makes no sense to say that after every tough loss because it obviously does not apply.

Tough... tough loss... yes.
But man, my wife and I had a GREA8 time! All that bad seed Fan Fest crap from last week  is thrown out the door! Thank you FJ, Hash and Atma for putting together a wonderful GSoM 4 night and even though we were scattered I made my rounds all over the arena and did my part and said "hey". It's the fans (on top of our team) that makes a Warriors game the funnest place to be! (screw clubbing lol!)

Yeah Exactly
6 Bench Points from 1 guy?

That is ridiculous.
Why Did Barnes and Wright not play?
I also agree that we played with little to no intensity. It seemed like Baron was the only one out there sweating.
Those back to back Rebounds he had in the 4th really showed how badly he wanted this game!

What an awesome game
Pietrus needs to hit it more often from his faourite spot. He went like 2-5.

And what the hell was with that last pass? Passing it to Monta? A Monta clutch 3? Hahahahahahahahahaha....

Anyway, I had a great time, I'll post a diary with pics later on.

The Refs
were freaking terrible this game.  I was utterly disappointed at how many bad calls in a row were made.  Not only did the two technicals decide the game, but the five or six absolutely awful calls brought a crappy ending to what shouldn't have even been a nailbiter.  Crap crap crap crap crap!!!!

There should be a supervising ref in a booth watching the game that is able to override even the head-ref's calls.  Replays anyone?  Challenges?  Something needs to be done.  That one game could possibly be the one to help edge the dubs out of the playoffs like the technical called at the Wizards game last year that gave them the win.

By the way, what the hell did Peitrus do to get a tech?  I saw him just jump straight up and block a shot with a little body contact.  Crap crap crap.

Keep Monta Movement.
