Dirk out at least 2 weeks.

Two weeks at the least is the current estimate:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3308109

Tragic if you're a dallas fan, if the mavericks respond badly this could be the warriors chances of staying in the playoffs. 1.5 games ahead of denver, with 2 games against the lakers coming up, plus denver has the grizzles tomorrow, they might have a better record than us once tuesday rolls along.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Whatever
weren't the Rockets supposed to fade away when Yao got injured? Come on, the Mavericks still have some really good players, Howard, Terry, Kidd, we have to worry about us.

good point
Kidd may grab the reins and get them going ...

or the two week prediction could just be some of Cuban's histrionics & make Dirk look like a savior when he comes back "early"

agreed...
we are already in cruise mode most of the time.. i am worried this team can't find the intensity.

by saintdee on Mar 23, 2008 3:57 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

weird as it sounds
I'm sorta glad the last dozen or so are mostly against top tier teams - we play up and/or down to the competition so much it just may end up helping us

Rockets are actually hot
The difference is that the Rockets were actually hot before Yao was injured. The Mavs are not hot as they have not beaten a single team with a winning record since Kidd showed up. Let's leave them to battle with the Nuggets for 8th seed.

Wonder how this affects their gameplan
Do they start going uptempo and try to utilize Jet, Howard, Kidd, and Stack on the fly.

They could be really fun to watch if they did that. No more passing to Dirk .. waiting .. waiting .. waiting .. fadeaway jumper and IN!

all i can say about this is...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH and good cuz i dont wanna face the fakers in round 1 of the playoffs

This could go one of two ways...
Either they falter without Dirk or J-Kidd somehow puts the team on his shoulders and they do a Rockets impersonation. I'm hoping for option A.

nah
I think it will hurt them, dallas doesn't have the depth to make up for a dirk nowitzki size hole on that team. The situation is also different because they haven't been playing great as of late, the rockets had a 13 game winning streak to protect when yao went down, a lot of pride to keep that streak alive. I think nowitzki is more valuable to the mavs than yao is to the rockets, wait and see.
with the rockets it was, "oh so now we're out of the playoffs? watch and see how good the rest of us are"
with the mavs I think it will be, "just our luck we've fallen to the 7th seed and now our best player has gone down"

by bigbenny11 on Mar 23, 2008 4:48 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I
also think this will hurt them.

They were already fading as it was, now with out drik their chances are fading even more.

I think we will end up with the 7th spot avioding LA, Denver will get hot and finish 8th... with Dallas coming in 9th..

People REALLY underestimate Dirk...
did you guys see the Mavs get trounced by the Rockets without Dirk??
I agree with whoever said Dirk is more important to the Mavs than Yao is to the Rox, look how we completely killed them last playoffs by shutting down Dirk.

I think if Dirk is out 2 weeks, the Mavs will be out of the POs. At least for them, their first round pick is lottery protected this year.

Nonetheless, I feel really bad for Dirk b/c he seems like a decent guy and you don't like to see injury to important players, but if this helps our playoff chances, too bad!

LOL
that was pretty funny and lame, but please, it's called emotion after choking and hardly anything that disqualifies Dirk from having a widely known reputation of being nice (and soft).

by blahblah on Mar 24, 2008 4:36 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

and Dirk
isn't the first player to have a flagrant foul.

Regardless of Dirk, any true basketball fan doesn't like seeing players go down, just like when Yao went down for the Rockets. It's bad for competition, it's bad for the game. That was my main point.

If you don't know how Dirk felt after those finals
then you've never played competitive sports.

and that flagrant on AK was awkward, unintentional...and totally awesome.  I wish that crybaby would get destroyed like that every game.

then we will fight in the shade.

Mavs
As much as i hate the Mavs and Cuban especially, Dirk is a helluva player.  A freak of nature in the basketball world.  7ft 3pt shooter?  I mean, c'mon.

As far as that team goes, Dirk is their reigning MVP and more important to that team than Howard and JKidd for sure.

That will will flounder (even more) without him.

I pray i never have to use a gun again.

I don't see
how they can win without Dirk.

Not much of a test when they play the Clippers tomorrow but they got Denver on Thursday. We'll find out then.

Am I Michael Scott? I don't know. I might just be a basketball machine.

Leg got kinda twisted under him...
With the ankle twisted pretty far the opposite way... reminds me of the TO "Horse-collar" injury, but then again, Dirk didn't have somebody simultaneously falling on his leg.  In any case, I doubt he gets back before the playoffs.  Sad for Dirk, sad for the Mavs.  Can I be happy that the folks in Dallas probably won't see playoffs without traveling to Houston or San Antonio?  As much as I don't want to see anybody get injured, I really want to enjoy Dallas missing the playoffs... I just wish they could do it without the "We lost Dirk!!!" excuses.

mavs
Heres why the mavs will struggle without dirk:
JKiddd aint the player he used to be, he has no shot left whatsoever so he is not a scoring threat.  The mavs dont run too much so he wont be creating that much on the break, which leaves the halfcourt, and dirk is by far the best halfcourt offensive player on the team.  Terry has always been overrated and seems to miss his shots in the clutch.  So that leaves Josh Howard, who is a great player and will probably pick up his numbers significantly...But when you add it all up, the mavs are losing THE most important player on their team and it will show...oh an i think 2 weeks is an understatement, that injury looked pretty bad, could be done for the season
