OPEN THREAD: Warriors @ Hawks - In Whose Club?

Warriors 36-22
Hawks (W-L): 24-33
Time: 4:00pm PST
TV: FSN Bay Area
Radio: KNBR 1050
When I think of Atlanta, I think of 3 things: Clubs, the song "Welcome to Atlanta" by Jermaine Dupri and Ludacris, and Usher. As you realize that I'm a byproduct of the MTV Generation (and I make no apologies for that), you might be asking, what the heck does this have to do with tonight's game?
Absolutely nothing! But the randomness that is me makes this preview all the more worthwhile. Despite the fact that many people out there are blowing this game off because these are two lower seed teams battling for playoff position, here are my top 3 reasons why this could potentially be as hot as Usher's new single:
Jump to find out:
1) Pushing to make the playoffs: Both teams are essentially in the same spot. Sitting at the very edge of the playoffs, these teams amusingly have completely opposite records. The Warriors have a 36 and 22 record, while the Hawks have a 24 and 33 record. If the Warriors were in the East they would be in forth, but I guess we’ve all heard that before. This game should be exciting because both teams will be playing hard knowing every single game counts from here on out.
2) Young and Exciting: I know I sound like a broken record but I get excited every time I watch our young guys play. Tonight we should see Monta dominate like he has lately with his high percentage shots and drives to the basket. We should also see the flourishing of Brandan Wright. In the past two games, he’s averaging 13 points and 7 rebounds with only 18 minutes of play. We are seeing the maturing process of this young star as he’s started both games while Beans is out nursing an injury.
Atlanta also has some high flying talent in Josh Smith, Al Horford, and Joe Johnson. I think this team is heavily underrated and will be a pretty darn good team in a couple of years. Both teams are run and gun so I expect a high scoring affair. And what’s not to love about that?
3) Great Quotes: ESPN reported:
Geez thanks Stephen. I guess I didn’t really understand why I paid an exorbitant amount of money the past 3 months to watch you play. Next time I’ll ask the Warriors season ticket team to just sell me season tickets for the second half of the season now that we are on the same page.
No Predictions but YaoButta’s contest: Last game against the Hawks we lost on our home court! We better teach them a lesson this time. Tell me by how many points will we win tonight and the combined score of both teams.
Winners are tallied for end of season YaoButtaMing awards!

ok
Even though I know you're kidding, that's a pretty lame comment. Jack's been playing his butt off all season. It's not always pretty, and he plays hurt a lot, but that shows what I mean.

Tonight's game!
Nice inclusion of the new Usher/Jeezy track, too, it's fire!!
As for the Jackson quote, I care more about what he does than what he says. He's played with incredible heart this season, everyone knows that. To be honest, I think Jack may have been talking about other players in that quote and just used the "we" form to be diplomatic.

Agreed
Sometimes we start the games sluggish and I think it's a mentality issue.
Not that I like Kobe, but one of the reasons he's an incredible player is that no matter where you are in the season, he plays like every single moment counts. We need more attitudes like that and I think our team can be amazing.

Here's the rub...
Truth is, this team has far exceeded expectations in terms of record. They conserve their energy for when it counts, and when it counts, they are killers. I think we have the most come from behind wins of over ten points than any team in the league. Far more.
Hoops is won in the last three minutes of the game (assuming the game is close) this teams goal in the regular season is to keep it close and win it when it in the last three minutes. Come playoff time they will play full court, man to man, pressure defense and leave it all out on the court. I can guarantee that. So we shouldn't give them a hard time about not going balls to the wall every minute when they are sitting some ten games over .500.
As long as they win games, I don't care how much they win by. Once they make it to the playoffs we should expect nothing less than all out effort, but until then you have to realize this games chess it ain't checkers! Let them do their thing in the regular season so when they get to the playoffs they have the legs and the stamina to play that lockdown defense we saw them pull on Dallas.
I can't wait! AND so many western conference teams are slipping I am almost giddy. Thanks Shaq!

Here's the problem ...
It's great to have "come from behind" wins, but why put us in that position? If we can focus from the start of the game then we wouldn't have to keep Baron and the starters in during crunch time and give them time to relax and let the reserves close out games. That would then give us the ability to rest our starters for the next game and playoffs.
10 games over .500 is great. But we are 8th in the west and if we don't make the playoffs I'm going to be very upset. 8th is not acceptable. Denver is going to make a surge and I doubt any of the other teams will fall enough for us to surpass. The point is back to my original debate, if we had the killer instinct from the start, would we still be in 8th? why not 6th or possibly home court advantage in 4th?
I also love your optimism! But I'm still worried we might not make the playoffs which would then make this debate a moot point.
either way it's fun arguing about this =)
we win by 10 -- combined score 224
blah
warriors play lock-down D

You're
lol.
i've read his comments and all i got from it was him making fun of pietrus everytime he made a play.
take a look in the mirror before you use the word "instigate" bro.
so..
wow
i'm using all your comments in this thread about pietrus to make my point.
i admit reading your "unstoppable" comment wrong. but the rest were just plain annoying.
just do us all favor, dude
i didnt realize
Anyways am I as a fan not allowed to be frustrated with Pietrus' play? am I not allowed to comment it in a quick post to vent my frustration? Do I have to praise him when he misses? just like when I exalt him when he hits his shots?
dont worry bro
pietrus still makes bonehead plays but he isnt dunleavy, thats for sure... but MP's the only bandwagon im gonna stay away from since he stated that he would be an "all-star" else where.
You have been a buzzkill for months, man
...it would be cooler if you went away.
hm?
....it would be cooler if you went away.
See I can do it too. ::rolls eyes::
gee whiz.. if you want me to stop posting why don't you ask everyone who disagrees with you on your dairy http://www.goldenstateofmind.com/story/2008/2/27/183729/693
to stop posting as well? Since apparently you decided singehandedly that criticizing Pietrus warrants a instant removal from the website. And ironically you chose one of the posts in which I was praising him to do it in.
Btw you are far more negative than I will ever be.. read your dairy again.. just read it.. and see what kind of tone it carries with it.

MP save some of it for tomorrow's game!

Wow
This is the Pietrus that I loved last season, the confident, goofy attitude and the corner three. Barnes, though he still is not great at making layups, hit both his threes today so that is a good sign.
So right now, with Pietrus and Barnes slowly rounding into form (well, Barnes slowly rounding into form, Pietrus already looks like he's there) the Warriors are a lethal team.
The rest of the league should be very, very afraid.
BD ... Taking a page off of Monta ...
The result: 64% from the field.
awww monta
chris paul
what about cho boy?! he got called it on too. he gave kind of a weak answer saying baron wasn't on the list that they had.
come on monta, gotta have baron's back on that
I love this.
THIS JUST IN: PIET IS STILL A SCRUB. THANKS.
He'll be back to old form within a week

Don Nelson = 1200+ NBA cpoaching wins
sike
Yeah, you're right
Pietrus is playing well because he's doing what we've wanted him to do the entire year. He still makes the same mistakes he's been making for a long time (stepping out of bounds, shooting with 22 on the clock late in the fourth of a close game), but he is finally starting to hit the corner threes, finally providing the spark from the bench that we've not had for most of the season.
I'll live with stupid Pietrus plays if he makes up for them on the offensive end, and he has done so the past couple of games, so why should we act like he's playing bad when he's not?
just
Pipe down, son
Sorry your feelings were hurt shorty, but you're one-trick pony. Gptta bring more to the party than "Pietrus sucks" for three months. Especially when you don't even know why.
geebus
Once again... CHILL!! Warriors won.. be happy..
If he was a scrub
sorry Pietrus had a few good games
Hall of Fame coach gives the dude some burn, he pulls a double-double and starts draining threes and playing good d and you act like he offended you or stole your girlfriend or something.
I don't even think he's that great but you guys who spend all your energy hating the dude are straight ignorant.
i don't post much
besides adding a three point shot, nothing much has changed.
he's the same player
Some people think Azuibuke will be this player, and while I don't disagree with them, I'm not sure if he's explosive enough and good enough on the glass and on defense to really fit this teams needs. He might be better on a half-court team that relies on its stars to carry the load and its roll players to focus on just 1-2 things.

Pietrus is like any other NBA player
There is no reason why he can't be the next Bruce Bowen, a defensive FORCE at sg/sf that can gaurd 1-3, occasionally 4. It's just his focus is all on being an offensive weapon when in reality his offensive game is weak and probably will never improve beyond what he has now.
he needs to focus on his defense because he can be just as good of a defender as stephen jackson. plus he can board, draw charges, finish the fast break and hit the corner three. if bruce bowen can make a name for himself with the limited skill set he has, there's no reason why pietrus can't.

He never stopped running!!!
