Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

Gerald Green waived.

http://www.nba.com/nba_news/rockets_mikeharris_080308.html

It's hard to imagine that a couple years back I was angry when the warriors drafted diogi rather than Green, but here we are and now he's been cut by the rockets. What a shocking move, how does the gsom community feel about possibly signing the kid? Maybe this is a system in which he might flourish, I know with pietrus and probably barnes leaving next season, our depth at the guard position might be a little bit weaker than expected, especially if bellinelli doesn't pan out. So how about giving this green kid a chance?

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Whoh!
Now THAT'S unexpected. An almost Dunk-Champ possibly out of the league.

It doesn't matter if we sign him now, becuase we couldn't use him in the playoffs. We're loaded with projects already.

Well, I'm sure Mr. Overrated will find a job somewhere....if not in the NBA, then with an NBDL team.

Being a dunk champ
means little

remember Kenny Sky Walker?

Yeah, I know
It was more of an "Another One Bites the Dust" reaction than a "Whoh, I can't believe such an honourable player has fallen!" reacton.

so sad,,,
looks like DHoward ruined his career with his superman dunk. lol.. i am sure if he won this year he wouldnt have been waived.

I'm with you
I was pretty peeved that the Warriors picked Diogu over this guy, as well. He's probably going to be an unrestricted FA at the end of the year, anyway, but I would be all for getting the inside track on getting him for next season.

no
ike means no stephen jackson and al harrington. Be glad we picked ike.

asdf
There has to be some underlying reasons that this kid has been cut. He was suppose to a corner piece in Boston and then in the span of a year he goes from a suppose to be super star to traded for hardly anything to being cut right after a trade. With MP2 and Barnes most likely not coming back next year he would have been a nice replacement piece with a big upside and little risk to bring in. But like I said, I really think there are some underlying things that we aren't aware about for the reason he has fallen so fast.

by lightz0ut on Mar 8, 2008 5:04 PM PST reply actions

why did Al take the last shot?
i know they're trying to get him involved. But I thought it was more important to get that led down to 6.

hey
I have a good idea, let's try to win the basketball game by avoiding monta ellis like he's the black plague.

Houston waived Gerald Green
for space, in order to sign some 10 day frontcourt "depth" because Carl Laundry is injured... I heard that the Rockets are going to sign Gerald Green after the Justin William and Mike Harris' contracts both expired.

by mistererickk on Mar 8, 2008 6:39 PM PST reply actions

whoa...
landry is injured? that's bigger news than green being waived.  Landry has been incredible and I believe a huge part of their win streak is due to him.

by kinetic on Mar 8, 2008 7:03 PM PST up reply actions

Yup
cut POB and sign Green.

It would be nice to have an "emergency guard" in case Baron or Monta get injured.  Because of Watson's inexperience, Belinelli's shortcomings, and lack of faith in Azubuike, having another guard cannot hurt us.  POB's not going to get playing time anyway.  Even when if our big men get hurt, we can still give Perovic some PT.

Even if Gerald Green isn't on the playoff roster, he can help us make the playoffs.  Making the playoffs is still a big uncertainty.

id love to get him
next year when pietrus and barnes are probably gone.  i'd love to watch him flying up and down the court in nellie ball.
passes it to the man...and boom goes the dynamite!

Ain't he & monta homies
we should take a bargain basement flyer on him in the off season, if no one swoops up on him.  This team is built on talented throw aways.  He'd make a great barnes/pietrus/buki replacement if it comes down to it.  Maybe he'll start a trend with his unique take on the ol' headband.

I agree,
Green for POB.  Cut POB's worthless ass.  Nellie aint gonna play him anyway.  I'd definitely take a flier on Green.
Pray for the guy

by B Randon on Mar 10, 2008 12:13 PM PDT reply actions

Not so fast
No need in bringing in Green if he is not going to play for us in the post season. We already have a hard time spreading the minutes between Barnes, Buike, and Pietrus. POB is more valuable to the team at this moment than Green. POB has length and he can change shots. All Green can do is dunk, we don't need that.

I say if the warriors want Green, they should bring him during the summer and have him run with the summer league roster. The warriors should go for high basketball IQ players, not just athletic players with no jumpshot or defensive ability.
