Serious consideration...

Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it to Oracle Arena to cheer on the dubz and had to watch it at home. The most important game of the year and we blew it !!

Star-divide

Here are some assesments I have made from watching the Dubz play this game and the previous 4-5 lackluster games...

*Captain Jack- Everyone says that like Baron he's part of the core and glue of this team, and although his attitude and energy may be key atttributes to the team's success, his game isn't...his numbers may be up, 20.1 (etc...) making it the first time 3 Dubz have scored 20 or more since Run TMC, but his shooting percentage is lousy. I'm so annoyed with his reliance on the 3. Hoisting up 3's within seconds of passing the halfcourt and not setting up the offense. I have noticed his confidence has also seemed to be shaken, as he seems reluctant to take certain shots in the game.

* We are playing more one-on-one in the halfcourt sets. We aren't making the extra pass needed to free open an easy bucket. Instead of penetrating into the defense and kicking it out we decide to pull the trigger early before the offense is set, we're way too trigger happy on the 3. Last year at during this time of the year there would be 3-4 diff. Warrior touches on each possession before a shot was hoisted. That way every Warrior on the court would contribute. I notice this year Davis and Monte have been very effective on one-on-one scoring at will (espec. Monte). But you can't dominate all 48 minutes playing dat way, b/c ur bound to eventually miss. And when we play 1-on-1 other guyz become obsolete and then when buckets aren't falling the other players are more likely to defer to the 3 main scorers, and thus our bench has actually been rather weak, barely contributing in the points category.

  • I hate to say it we need J-Rich. He was the man, the tru Warrior. He was athletic, he always took it to the rim with energy, he defended, he put his heart and soul into the team.
  • our team now with its improved record from last year, I feel in many ways is weaker and deficient in areas that last year's group was great it in...the record is just a mere record, its a mirage, we're not as good as our record, we have no defense and we rely way too heavily on the 3...
  • We should have played our rookies more consistent minutes early in the season. Bellenelli espec. since his game is focused on jump shooting. Our team is jump shooting team, if we're gonna hoist a bunch of 3's at least have some one who can shoot a high percentage. I think he would have flourished in our system if he got more PT. He would have been paying dividends now in this big game.
  • *Signing Pietrus, and Barnes to one year deasl kinda bit us in the but. You could argue their lackluster play this year may be due to the fact that they felt undervalued and underapp. and also not knowing their future with the ballclub.

*Monte's the man, his game is always evolving, he's getting better every game and will be our go to guy next year.

    * both Monte and AB need to be resigned, along with Baron ofcourse.

    I'm out.

    do you think...
you'd be saying "Monta's the man" if JRich was still on the team?

the warriors front office would be willing to go well into the luxury to bring back monta and biedrins, if jrich was still on the team?

the warriors D would be any better if JRich was still on the team?  Especially considering we'd have jason at the 3 and jack at the 4 in crunch time....

Yea, Jackson takes too many shots, and often chucks away too early in the shot clock.  But what exactly do you think the warriors offense will do in the halfcourt?  They don't have a bigman who can post up and score or even post up and find an open 3 pt. shooter.

It was not the early 3's that killed the warriors tonight.  It was their halfcourt offense, which failed to perform at two critical parts of the game: the Nuggett's 20-1 run and the fourth quarter.  During that second quarter, the warriors took 4 consecutive 3-pointers in half court sets, all of which missed. They couldn't spread the floor with shooters because the shooters couldn't hit the broad side of a barn and they couldn't post up inside because their only good post player, Baron, would have to beat not only his man but 1 or 2 forwards as well (one of whom is among the best shotblockers in the league).

Ideally, Jackson takes fewer shots, but the warriors simply don't have other scorers who can consistently score more efficiently than him without the help of Baron or Monta.

Hopefully Wright begins to change that next season, but I personally don't think this team will truly compete until the year after next.  I am, however, all for keeping it together.  Until then we'll have to settle for late season playoff runs and 1st/2nd round exits.

yea it little bit too late now
J-rich doesnt really want to come back to play for the dubs after that trade. Well, he is still better than too lil action jackson with in his rehab season with the sorry ass bobcats. But anyway we need to package Action Jackson,J-rich 10 millions and etc for Elton Brand. I don't think Small ball really work. Time switch it up and learn how to play D again.

    Do you watch Battlestar Gallactica?
Bro, you should say "Fraking!" or "What the Frak?!?" It's like saying the F word but thousands of years later! I don't know... the show makes its seem cool and I love b.s.g. 2 death!

    "What the Frak?!?" LOL

    Thanks, Tony
    FRAK! FARK!

That hits the fraking spot. After a fraking game like last night's, one needs to drop some kind of F-bomb...

Not that I get a say, but I actually think the GSoM rules should be revised so that all manner of cussing is deemed acceptable in the gamethread of a particularly brutal Ws loss, so long as it isn't directed at anyone in particular.

On BSG: I used top watch that all the time back in the day, but I don't seem to recall Starbuck dropping an F-bomb...

    Wrong B.S.G.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlestar_Galactica_(2004_TV_series)

A new series dropped in 2004 and it's mad crazy! Great TV Drama...! On the "Bad words" tip... I made a promise to myself not to cuss anymore... I don't know, I'm gonna be 31 in June and when I speak to folks a lil' older than me or in front of kids, a slip up of the f-bomb or the s-word doesn't really cut it for me. Long story short, I don't wanna cuss... even in Warrior Games! LOL

    Yeah
I knew about the new BSG -- I've heard from a few people that it's an awesome show. I was just playing my Gen X "old-man" card -- you know, "I used to listen to music on something called an album that was made of vinyl..."

    playoffs
we're a jump shooting team that couldn't make any outside shots, our half court offense is nonexistent because the opposition is zoning up and not allowing penetration. They double on Baron, making him either pass or try to isolate and make him take a difficult shot, so he passes to Jackson and he just can't buy a bucket.  Worst time to be in a shooting slump.  Couldn't hit the 3pt shot and just horrible at the free throw line, How did Monta, Al and Jackson miss 6 straight?  Yea, we could've used JRich  this year, he would at least perform better than out other  team captain(Barnes) He plays similar to JR Smith who just killed us off the bench for 24pts last night, and I think he scored 24 on us last time. I think Mullin's plan backfired, if we're not going to play any defense, I'd take JRich > Biedrins  and make the playoffs with Al/Croshere at center.  Mullin basically traded away JRich so he could sign Biedrins last summer, not worth it. We could be a  6-7 seed this year.

    you must be joking
we would be better off with Cro an AL at C.What would be the rebound difference then 20-70 for opponents.

    playoffs
If we had a starting 5 of BD,Monta, JRich, Jackson and Harrington, with Biedrins, Pietrus, Buke and Croshere off the bench, we would be playoff bound.  Next year add a 4/5 power forward from the draft (Love, Lopez, Joey Dorsey) or a midlevel free agent sign.  Biedrins is over-rated an not worth $10mil./year.  My point was we would have been better off not trading JRich this year even if it meant not being able to resign AB next year.  #1 we would have been a contender this year,  #2 we are not going to contend next year with this same team.

    I will agree..
That we need more dribble penetration.  Baron, Monta, Al and SJax can all get in the paint, but the problem is, almost everytime they do, they hoist up a shot, even if it's not there. Admittedly they get some nice feeds inside to Beans, but they should take a lesson from AI and Nash, drive to the hoop and just kick out.  It opens up options.

you're still fired for spelling MONTA'S name incorrectly.

i cant believe fellow warrior fans still spell it MONTE.

    sickening...sickening.

devin harris wants a piece of monta...literally.

J-Rich takin' it to the rim w/ energy...
He did this about a couple times a game, while being content with putting jumpshots and 3's for the rest of the game.  With that said, his presence and athleticism is truly missed ..

BUT if he were still here, MONTA would not have blown up like he has this year. And imagine trying to re-sign Monta, Beans and possibly Baron to long-term contracts w/ J-Rich's contract on the books.. not possible.

    barnes
we offered barnes a three year deal but rejected before he signed his one year deal, he thought he would have a breakout year this year to get an even better contract but obviously he is a completely different player this year, so we cant blame his woes on a one year contract

    The future vs. now
OK, help me here because I'm not as versed in the details as most of you.  Every time anyone brings up the JRich trade, the bit about needing the cap space to resign Baron, Monta, and Beans comes up.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't their resigning come up AFTER this season??  And would paying JRich's salary THIS season have caused the team to go over the luxury tax?  And if so, by how much?  I have said it many times that I don't understand why they couldn't have kept what proved to be a winning combination for a half season together for a whole season.  Aren't we still paying a hefty amount on Foyle's contract and who is responsible for it?  Mullin?  The same guy that signed away JRich?  Maybe the problem was in the front office and not on the court?

As for JRich's value, I think it goes beyond the stats because of the way he jelled with the other guys, but even just looking at the stats, his numbers this year are numbers that would have added in our totals nicely.  He's curently #1 in the entire league for 3 pt field goals made, and for a team that seems to die on the vine whenever anyone applies a good zone defense, that kind of shooting ability - at least to me - is invaluable.

Monta is a rising star and I don't believe his development would have been hindered by JRich's presence this year - in fact, just the opposite. Monta is obviously tired as the rest of the starters -- all you need to do is look at his missed shots last night to see it.  JRich has been averaging 38 min. a game this season and continues to rack up the points.  Wouldn't that be nice to have now in the midst of Jax's slump?  More importantly, Nellie's rookie-itis wouldn't be a factor in playing him as has been the case with BWright and what will be the case with whatever rookie draft pick the team may end up with next season.  I still don't get the hype about draft picks for this team when all it's going to mean is we need to call the lumber yard and get some more wood to extend the bench.

    the JR trade
Putting the money issue aside, one thing I don't understand is, why they traded JRich when Nellie's time is running out? I thought he wants to win now, as in NOW! Heck, as a long-time suffering Warriors fan, I wanna win NOW!

Last year's play-off push was unbelievable. Imagine if we still had that team? I'm sick of getting rid of key players for "potentials".

But that chapter has sailed so we need to look into what the Ws need this summer...

by MANUTEs BOLs on Apr 11, 2008 2:19 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

    Hard to believe that
people can't see that Monta wouldn't have have the breakout year he's had if JRich was here...  And this was no doubt a breakout year for Monta.  He is legit now, its no longer potential.

And I agree with comments above, JRich would not be putting up any less outside shots than BD or SJax.

Further, playing BD, SJax, Monta, Al, and JRich on the floor at the same time doesn't work against every team.  We need Beans too.  JRich would take minutes from Monta, AND prevent us from signing Beans.
