The NBA Owes Us - The Warriors... In 08-09

Alright I wanted to be one of the first to post after this disappointing result against the Suns.

Sure we gave up a 11-0 run to them in the end, but think about this guys... we were to finish 50-32 and 50-32 for the Nuggets... wouldn't it make it even worse? Losing to a team going to the playoffs because of a TIEBREAKER. Or even worse... a horrible Delaney call?

Alright guys... let's look towards 2008. It's now time for the bandwagon Warrior fans to get outta the scene and let the hardcore dub fans to root on their underdog Warriors do their magic again next year.

Maybe I'm talking crazy... but let's show our dubs our appreciation this Wednesday. After capping last season's historic playoff run, they gave us 7-8 wins MORE. And that's after winning that 8 or 9 games at the end of last year! IF we made the playoffs... we'd be AGAINST the toughest conference in NBA history, slated to face... THE LAKERS. Imagine that Bay Area embarassment!

The draft is months away... but if we can find Monta Ellis and Biedrins in the rough in this sort of position... you never know. Kevin Love? Trade for Beasley? Trade for Brand? A lot of crazy possibilities... but our core will remain the same and Nelly will be in his FINAL YEAR.

Some people say we should take 2009 easy... but let's run right by our opposition since the NBA obviously has yet to catch up with us... let's earn our respect, get a good start and win 50. 50 to history. And shock the world.

DON'T STOP BELIEVING. LET'S GO WARRIORS!

51 next year

probably won't be enough to get 8th seed.

The problem is Portland is getting Oden back and Brand will be back for a full year for the Clips too.

With Bynum not even practicing yet, I actually think the Lakers are not invincible for a #1 seed.

Let's all hope for a lot of luck with those ping pong balls!

51 huh?

wouldn’t those teams being better mean that teams won’t be as stacked at the WIN column next year? There’ll be less 20 win teams? Better competition=less 50 win teams

been a long time dubs fan and i definitely enjoyed last season's ride up through this season. being a season ticket holder for about 8 years now has allowed me to see some good times and the bad, i'm hoping next year will bring some more ups than downs.

i hope the ping pong balls fall in our favor. i dont think its realistic to get beasley.. although he would be a boooooooommmb asset to the team. athletic power forward thats a monster on the glass. just what the dubs need. we'll see.. and i honestly dont think kevin love is going to be an outstanding nba player. ya he's real fundamental, but he is a little undersized to be a legitimate contender on the boards. he can sure stroke the ball for a big guy though.

i agree with misterjennings.. the west is only getting stronger. the warriors have to truly focus on getting those close wins next year, they'll come back to haunt us again otherwise

The NBA doesn't owe us a thing.

Starting off the season 0-6. Losing to charlotte, chicago, indiana, minnesota.... I'd say we earned this one. No one owes us anything. We played down to competition, and the competition beat us. Maybe they'll learn their lesson and play every game like it counts instead of taking nights off like they see fit.

is this the GSOM formerly known as "coma"?

i’m still trying to get these names right

by OaktownWarrior on Apr 15, 2008 1:46 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Absolutely not.

I believe you’re mistaken, kind fellow.

by xcoma on Apr 15, 2008 4:04 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

about drafting

Beasley would fit into Don Nelson's system but Kevin Love would NOT. Don't ask me why, feel free to come up with the answer yourself. By the way, I agree with xcoma, the NBA doesn't owe us a thing, or any team.

by CatchAndShoot on Apr 14, 2008 10:09 PM PDT   0 recs

Beasley > Love

That is correct.

It's Been A Great Year! Thanks Warriors!

Still....

what a fantastic year for the Warriors. Though we missed the playoffs, I truly think this is the best Warrior team that I've really gotten to seriously follow (Run TMC were a little before my time, I'm 23).

I have no idea what the future holds for us, but it has been a pleasure to watch them this year. Since I'm a broke student, I have only been able to afford to go to the GSOM games, and I think for all others like me that they should go to the Seattle game. All the suits sold thier tickets cause we're out, so you can get them from stubhub for pretty cheap. Unfortunatley, I have night class on Wednesday so I can't go, but I'd love to give them some extra appreciation for thier tireless work and fantastic achievement. I love GSW, and I can't wait till next season...peace, dan

Run TMC topped out at 44 wins ... this is the third most wins of any Warrior team

since Rick Barry left town … that includes four seasons with fewer wins and a trip to the playoffs, by the way …

The NBA...

1.) Suspended Stephen Jackson for shooting a gun in the air when someone was trying to run him over with a car.

2.) Gave us the hardest schedule to begin AND end the season.

3.) Give us refs that don't give us slack at all. Isn't this true for Oakland teams? Tuck rule anyone?

4.) Give us an NBA Playoff system when the Warriors would rank around the 12th team of all 16 teams... and this separation of post-season worthiness is done by what... GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION?

The NBA hates us. Yet a large majority of the NBA fans LOVE us. I'll take anything as a positive at this point. Right now, why is it that all Bay Area teams ever since the Niners won the '98 Superbowl have been ROYALLY SCREWED over the years? Giants-Marlins? Raiders-Pats/Raiders-Bucs? A's-Yankees, A's-Yankees, A's-Red Sox? Sharks-Choking? Heck we can even make a case for the Sac Kings.

The Bay Area is HUNGRY for a championship... and unless the Sharks can feel that hunger... we will continue to be this way for a while.

Everybody loses to bad teams...

So imagine if we had won ONE of the beginning six games?

We had a tough schedule... Utah 3 times in 2 games? Then here comes the Mavs? It hurt us a lot. And we can whine all we want, because if we don't, then we simply show that we don't care.

Let's root our Dubs on this WEDNESDAY.

No, it makes us look like we don't make scrub ass excuses for our team when they play like scrubs.

You're acting like the Knicks GM

Simply sitting still and doing nothing when something could be done about it. The Knicks COULD'VE made the playoffs this season... if only a coaching change was made.

So now you’re saying fire Nelly?

I’m just trying to clarify your delusional thoughts. I don’t know why people get so stupid when their favorite team loses. Blame anything but the players. The coach. The GM. The owner. Give me a break man. Changes are going to be made anyways this offseason, so it’s not like you’re coming with some Nostradamus stuff here. The shake up will happen.

I’m willing to cut the dubs a little slack since they’ll likely win 49 games and miss the playoffs, which has never been done. And unlike others, I feel the other teams improving will lower the amount of wins needed to get into the playoffs. With all of that being said though, they still could have made it if they didn’t take nights off.

by xcoma on Apr 14, 2008 11:00 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

chill.

as tough as it was watching the warriors miss the playoffs. we do still need to look towards the future rather than argue about the past.
Obviously, monta and biedrins have huge futures ahead of them, hopefully all of it with this team.
But if you look at teams such as the suns, spurs, mavs, etc, in a couple of years, their superstars will all be retired while we’re still yelling at the television. Tim Duncan, Big Cactus, Kidd, even Nash will have to retire soon. the only real contenders we have i guess are the trailblazers and hornets.
We can’t all be too mad about winning 48 49 games. it’s an accomplishment.
this also means i get to study for finals in a more peaceful environment, as the teams of the west get crushed in the nba finals by the Celtics.

Thank you, Dubs.

by misterho on Apr 14, 2008 11:43 PM PDT   0 recs

thanks misterho

Exactly. We have a lot to look forward to, especially with B-Wright, Monta, and Andris… our HOPEFUL core for young talent next season. Combine all of this with a draft pick, an interesting trade exeption (since we have a YEAR to use it… so that means Draft Day 1), and Nelly coming back… it’s all indication for another BIG Warriors push towards winning the championship again next season.

And we might have the Clippers… even the Blazers to fight against next season… but so will the rest of the West to balance it out. If we can stay healthy again next season, we’ll start strong and finish strong. That’s the way Warriors do it.

David Stern...

Please change the rule so that the top 16 records in the entire league go to the playoffs. It would make for a more competitive playoffs. It’s not fair!

2009-2010

So i have been a longtime warrior fan supplemented in the Los Angeles area. Unfortunately I am stuck here listening to the dumbest fans on the planet, but I am glad I had GSOM to keep me sane. Yes, it was a very dissapointing way to end the year, but at this point theres really nothing we can do but look forward to next year. Who knows maybe the basketball gods will send us a gift with the number 1 pick in the draft. Imagine Beasley in this lineup!!! Realistically, what can we do to improve this team?? Next years X-factor is going to be Brandon Wright. We saw glimpses of his talent and I think the offseason will do him wonders. He may even get some playing time next year!! Mullin definately does have a lot of work to do.

Free Agents:
Unrestricted:
Baron Davis (ETO)- I doubt he will opt out
Austin Croshere- most likely gone
Mickael Pietrus- 50/50 on this, but seems like he wants to come back and I would welcome him back as long as he plays the way he did after the trade deadline
Patrick O’Bryant- definately gone
Matt Barnes- I like him as a player, but he probably will not be back

Restricted:
Andris Biedrins- yes please!
Monta Ellis- yes pretty please
C.J. Watson- we may have to go after a veteran point guard to back up Bdiddy or draft someone like Collison or Ty Lawson
Kelenna Azubuike – he has a player option and i am sure he will opt out and I expect Mullin will resign him

So next years roster by my calculations:
PG: Baron
SG: Ellis, Azubuike
SF: Jackson, Pietrus
PF: Harrington, Wright
C: Biedrins, Perovic

Our core is still there, but we need another impact player to keep up in the west. My dream would be if we can pull off a sign and trade for a player like Josh Smith or Ron Artest. Two players who are great defensively and are athletic enough to play in the Nelsons offense. Its definately going to be an interesting offseason, and I am definately looking forward to another year of the League Pass and talkin crap to ignorant Laker fans.

If David Stern can get a frozen envelope to the Knicks

Then he can certainly hook the Warriors up. We’ve got the nationally-renowned fan base—People across the nation wanted to watch us in the playoffs. We believe!

Let’s go 2 percent! (or is it 0.5 percent chance of getting the top pick? ESPN confuses me)
