Letter writing campaign?
What's up everyone,
Feeling the effects of an unfortunate end to our season, I thought about what we could do to change things up. I propose a letter/email writing campaign to the commisioner's office. We could spread word to the different SB Nation blogs that would be interested and get everyone to write letters or emails. I was a youngin when the Wild Card was introduced to MLB, but it started the year after a situation similar to ours, didn't it? Something like the SF Giants winning 100+ games and not making the playoffs because Atlanta won the NL West. Guess I just wanted to see what everyone thought.
-Sass
**Update** Sorry, I completely forgot to clarify. The letters would be asking to allow the best 16 teams into the playoffs and to ditch the current East-West system.

That'll never happen.
Because we would only have about 4 teams in the east that would make it.

True dat
but i wouldn’t mind asking for tied teams to have a one game play off to decide the 8th seed rather than a stupid tie breaker

We already had our 1-game-playoff
it’s just like a little kid asking for a re-do.
And EVEN IF we did a best 16 team system, it wouldn’t be that different. Basically, we’d knock off Atlanta, and Portland would be in a dead heat with Philly right now. Sacramento wouldn’t get in. So, at most, it’d be 10-6, and this is during what is probably the most lopsided year ever.

But next year
If it was a top 16 team system, Portland would almost surely get in and Sacramento probably would as well. That’s 11 teams right there.
Also I disagree about calling that game a 1-game playoff. It just happened to be late in the season. Comparing it to a 1-game playoff discounts the fact that we were better than Denver at beating the rest of the league, and games against the rest of the league count just much in the standings as games against Denver.

fitz steinmetz roye and barnett are right
the radio guys touched on it after the game…the only way that might happen would be if the warriors get one of the top 3 picks this year in the draft (especially #1)
because not only is it of note that a 48/49 win team doesn’t make the playoffs, but if they get a top pick in the draft…it almost mocks the lottery system

I already sent Stephen Jackson a letter
Yup – sent it through some of my friends through the organization. Talked about a few things, how the NBA needs to change, and a few things on how much we appreciate his effort this season and last.

Playoff system
Every other sports league splits up the seedings by conference. A top 16 team system would be bad for the league because there’d be less rivalries. The same teams would be less likely to play each other from year to year. I also don’t think they should change the system if the Warriors win the lottery, although the NBA might get pressured into it. Changing the whole playoff system would be a gross overreaction to a .5% shot occurring.

I'm hoping...
...that Stern rigs the lottery for us. The rumors regarding the Ewing draft still abound today, as well as last year when people suspected the league may have tried to punish the Celtics for so brazenly tanking. Maybe we’ll get a little lottery love in exchange for our unprecedented non-playoff season?
Oh well… I guess at the very least I can take solace in the fact that a bunch of the teams in it this year are steaming towards age-induced irrelevance.

crazy
if we get the #1 pick in the lottery it doesnt mean the lottery needs to change. this is one year out of hopefully a million. A rich person can will the CA lottery by buying a itcket just like a poor person, doesnt mean we need a law shutting rich people out.
I also do not like the idea that the best 16 teams go to the playoffs. While I have too many years of pain under my belt as a Warriors fan, I would hate to see the East – West rivalry killed by the change. We need a reason to be interested in both conferences, keep both conferences viable, and keep people watching the games all over the country.
Imagine if we lost all the viewers on the east coast during the playoffs because there were only 4 eastern teams and non were big markets like New York. The NBA would potentially lose tons of money from tv revenue, etc. which would be bad for the league.
Lets man up, root for the West, and get ready for off season rumors.

I would rather write a letter to...
...our Government and ask them to lower rising gas prices. How about fixing the rising number of home foreclosures or the nations homeless problem? What can we do about an improved healthcare system or decrease the number of lay off’s within jobs? It affects us all… I love basketball 2 death… it’s my escape from reality, but there are just far more things in life we all have to deal with. I’ll be sending my letter to the government.

hey tony.psd
you’re so right. but i think this is a forum just for basketball. but really gas prices are outrageous. we are being forced to accept it and adjust. and until there is someone (or should i say majority) in congress that realizes our country has it’s own problems to fix then i’ll stay on GSOM.

Why Complain?
Why complain now? So may teams could have gotten into the playoffs over the last decade if the Playoff system was the best 16 teams. How would other teams feel that we get the special treatment?
Suck it up and play hard next year.

warriors didnt play hard enough to be in the playoffs… bottomline is that they dont deserve it.
