Emotionally Spent
I can't bear the thought of the season ending and no Warrior basketball
for a couple of months. With just one game left in the season, I feel
that anxiety- you know, the feeling that you get when you know that a
breakup is imminent. You wish it didn't have to end, but you know that
it is going to anyway. This whole season has felt like a long-term
relationship- ups and downs, nights when I feel like bawling my eyes
out and others nights when I am completely ecstatic and never want the
feeling to end.
Even though the Warriors had an absolutely fantastic year (how can you
complain about a winning season?), I still feel a bit disappointed and
let down by how the team played over the last month. It was right there
for them to take- but it didn't seem like they wanted it. They didn't
play with the energy, tenacity and intensity of that we know they are
capable.
My favorite parts of the season:
*Baron's game winning threes in the Lakers and Celtics game
*Watching Monta develop as a player and shoot the lights out in Feb
*Buke's development- he's a beast in the making
I am anxious about what will happen in the off-season. I hate that
professional sports run more like a business and that the concept of
loyalty does not exist. I have a feeling that the team will look quite
different come fall, which makes me a bit sad. As those who know me can
attest, I am very emotionally involved with my teams and I would be
absolutely devastated should Baron and Monta sign elsewhere.
Anyway, thanks to my fellow GSW die-hard fans for making the wins even
more enjoyable and the losses more bearable; after all, misery loves
company. Here's to a great season and looking forward to the next.
Warriors, baby.

Tired
Even though I agree with you that I am quite disappointed with the way Warriors played the last month or so, I don’t think it was due to lack of drive. I really believe that they had nothing left in the tank. At the beginning of the season we really believed that our bench is as strong as any and that it will be able to carry us through the season, but almost from the get go it was obvious that our bench was lacking.
I know a lot of people will say that it is because of Nelson, but I disagree, as he is the only one that truly knows what each player could bring. Even though I agree with you that it will be sad to see a different Warriors team next year, I am looking forward to it (as long as the core stays together). With a few changes, a stronger bench (lets go Wright – +10lbs), we could really be considered on of the elite teams of the NBA.
Lets go Warriors!

I agree
That a lot had to do with nothing left in the tank…but at the same time I feel that the players wouldn’t make that excuse either…Of course the bench (or lack thereof) was a big part of why we didn’t make it either. I’m just a little frustrated, as a fan, because it seemed as if there was a lack of drive… but of course, there were other factors involved as well.

I feel you
Talking about drained. I felt like the life was sucked out of me after we lost to Denver. Im looking foward to next season, but also know that its going to be even harder. I think changes from both sides will be coming, from the Warriors organization to the NBA rules commison.
My biggest higlights:
- Watching Baron hit the game winner with me and the crowd jumping up and down for 5 mins straight.
- Branden Wright’s dunk in the Charlote Game.
- Warriors crowd chanting for “Austin Croshere!”
- All those Warriors, Suns game at Roaracle.
- Sharing another Great Season with GSOM!!!
It's startling how so many people watch basketball, yet so few actually play it.

Combination of things
Tired, out of gas, trying to perform under pressure and expectations, inconsistencies. That’s what makes this season such a rollercoaster.
by IQofaWarrior on Apr 15, 2008 10:32 AM PDT 0 recs
Yeah
I’d have to agree with most people’s thoughts. But honestly, in my opinion, the biggest mistake we made was the fact that we did NOT find an efficient back up point guard for Baron Davis. If at the trade line we were able to work a deal for a much more proven, veteran presence instead of going with the hot streaking, unexperienced C.J. Watson, we would have been in a bit better of a position. As well as C.J. ran the offense when he was in, there just wasn’t that leadership that should come from the point guard position. WIthout a good back up point guard, our core had to play a lot more minutes, and in turn, nothing was left in the tank.
by dandydaniel on Apr 15, 2008 10:56 AM PDT 0 recs
that's on Nellie
I don’t know why Nelson just stopped playing CJ after his initial good play. I don’t think its a leadership thing, because that can also come from having Jack on the floor. As a matter of fact, that’s what Nelson does whenever he has Ellis run the point, he makes sure to have Jack out there as well. Watson plays good defense, has got some quicks to him, as well as a scorer’s mentality.

can somebody tell me
what was so great about this season??? i love the dubz as much as the next person but really what was so great? we were supposed to be in the post season! 3/4 of the season we held our position but the month we ran out of gas! so what, baron played every game & monta blew up and we’ve won 48 games and not make it to the post season was a success?!?
i feel that we’re no better then the other teams that couldn’t make it. what… next season we have to deal with a healthy clippers squad and a matured blazer team on top of a stacked west…
the season the blazers had gives them something to be proud of and look foward to in comparison to our season!!! im telling you, this was our year to prove "we belong" and that we were not a "fluke". doesnt anyone else notice this? am i the one who's blind?!?
where did all these people come from? last season didnt have half the community we have now but oh well one thing is true, the fans roll deep as long as we kept on winning. hopefully they stay.
win or lose... playoffs or lottery... i gotta luv them dubz! GSW 4 Life!!!
by gogomaplata on Apr 15, 2008 11:42 AM PDT 0 recs
so in your words
75% of the season we held our position. For that part of the season, weren’t the Warriors a treat to watch? When they scored victories over every team in the league (except for Utah)? When they scrapped back and made comeback after comeback to win? Baron driving in and scoring on anyone. Jack’s clutch 3s. Monta the Automatic. Sure the last month was the price paid for that, but until that point, I don’t think you can say that it wasn’t a great season. Largest win total since the previous Nelson regime, so long ago, in a stacked Western conference—that has to mean something.

Not sure where "all these people (came) from"...
... but this is my very first post on GSoM.
I’ve been a Warriors fan since birth, GSoM reader since before last season’s Playoff run (albeit sporadically before the run, but fairly consistently during and after that run until now), and GSW Season Ticket Holder starting a short while before we clinched a berth in last year’s Playoffs (would’ve been nice to be able to become an STH earlier than that but you gotta’ have the mean$) and early Option A renewer for the ‘08-’09 season.[Sole owner of one seat and also have a 1/3 share of another since the last Playoffs.]
I’ve sat in the same location through the recent Playoffs until now and you’d probably be lying to yourself if you’ve been ANYwhere in the vicinity of Section 108 (I’m at the very top slightly off-center of the middle toward 109) and say that you haven’t seen and heard me reppin’ The Warriors 1000% at every single game (except vs the cav’s because I couldn’t make it to that game due to an absolutely-cannot-miss class session; yeah, I even went to both pre-season games). By the way, “Thanks” to anyone and everyone that’s kept up with me during the past season+, and no apologies to those with damaged eardrums still trying to figure out why the guy at the top of 108 stayed loud even when Golden State was up or down.
Anyway, I figured that the start of GSoM 2.0 (April 14th) would be a good time to sign up here… So “What’s up?” to everyone reading this. In my opinion, there’s been some good stuff posted on GSoM and, as you know, it remains a great resource for Warriors info.
P.S.- gogomaplata... More of a joke and less than an attack, but… would you rather no one ever join the GSoM community ever again? I’m pretty sure what you’re trying to get at with that comment but come on.
Same goes for all the “bandwagon” comments that go on here at GSoM (and everywhere else). I, too, would like to say I dislike all the true bandwagoners. Being a season ticket holder, especially I think, you get to see a ton of different people filter in and out and you get to see them all fall apart and show no support when The Warriors aren’t playing their A-game. See them for the first time in the stands next to you after they’ve spent a few hundred dollars to get a ticket for the Playoffs only to curse The Warriors when they lost and throw their tickets to the floor. But in all actuality a lot of people have yet to be introduced to The Warriors (especially before these last Playoffs). And, quite frankly, a lot more have yet to be introduced to GSoM! Where do those people start? Can they never become true fans? Is “bandwagon” just a phase or a tag these people will have to endure until they prove they are more than just “only-when-they’re-winning” fans? I don’t know… I do know this subject has been talked about and talked about and talked about but it’s still a tough one. I guess, as you say gogomaplata, “hopefully they stay” but hopefully it’s whether or not The Warriors win. We do need The ORACLE to stay loud & energized, right?

I was thinking the same thing...
When do people start? For me, bandwagoning means switching allegiances every which way- supporting whichever team is doing the best. Loyal fans may become fans at some point when the team is winning, but the loyalty comes from sticking with that team through the highs and lows from that point on.
My case in point- I became a GSW, Giants and Niner fans when they were doing well (this was when i was in grade school). But from that point on, my allegiance never wavered. I’ve had to defend my teams many many times when living in SoCal.
And like elevatEdge, I only decided to join the GSoM community recently even though I have been reading it regularly for a long time now….but it doesn’t mean I’m any less of a fan than those who have been members from the start.

I know
exactly how you feel. As a long time Dubs fan, I would take this season over the previous 12 during our playoff drought. Still good to see the Dubs can compete in a ridiculous western confrence. I think next year is going to be alot more crazy with the Clips and Portland (maybe even Sac) fighting for spots. I trust that Mully realizes this club’s current roster needs more to compete in next years log jam. At least there are alot of ideas to talk about over the summer so us GSoM memebers won’t feel to far from our beloved Dubs…
GSoM supplements our elation as well as our depression because we share our opinions with such a large sports community! Ever since I found GSoM, every win and loss feels magnified just by logging into GSoM and reading comments and opinions. It seriously is kinda like a support group for Warrior Fans Anonymous…At least I don’t feel alone in my depression…

hold onto the memories
to watch the W’s go up 11 on the suns and just go into the tank after that was like a gut punch. Hopefully Nellie will play a lot of the players tomorrow that really didn’t get any run last night. I’d like one more chance to watch the running and gunning W’s with Barnes, Watson, even POB get some time, because most likely they won’t be around next season. Who knows, the W’s might take a page from Phoenix’s book and tone down the run and gun (which would truly be sad, because its what makes them so fun to watch)

Living up to expectations
Honestly, I think the Dubs exceeded their own expectations this year, as well as everyone else’s outside of the bay. If you go back and look at the preseason predictions, most NBA people had us ninth in the west, which is where we ended up. But they definitely didnt have us winning 48+ games!
We subtracted a vital part of our rotation in trading JRich, and basically didn’t replace him (as far as this year goes). The reason our bench was weak was because Monta was starting, and so was Al. Buike developed, like poohmami pointed out, but at the same time Pietrus and Barnes regressed. Personally, I’m happy with the Warriors season in retrospect, because we were even in the playoff picture this late. How many other teams in the history of the NBA got rid of a 20ppg player, not replace him in the rotation, and have a better team the next year?
It’s time to get excited about the off-season, and be happy we have things to build off of. I’ve been a Warriors fan for life, and they hadn’t had a winning season since I was 7 years old….. so I’ll take this year over any time we had with Musselman, Cowans, etc.
by IceDubs on Apr 15, 2008 2:41 PM PDT 0 recs
you said... most NBA people
meaning “NBA experts” had us 9th in the west BUT they didn’t have us winning 48 games?!? i bet if you asked anyone from the start even the players they would tell you different, they would say we were gonna be in the playoffs. so i dont think they exceeded the expectations. if your saying the whole country didnt believe, i guess they’re right then…. or are you saying that the “NBA people” were right? i believe we won our share of our games but we also lost our share. we beat boston at home but we lose to the twolves?!!?
the dubz 48 wins could be ATL’s 37 and be in the playoffs with a chance to win the chip. we’re 2 games under orlando and 3 games above cleveland… what if they win the championship? we knew what it would take to win but we faild.

Thank You IceDubs
I’m so tired of everyone saying it’s a failure of a season. We can’t help it that the west is too good. I also hate when people think we should beat Denver at home. Fans can help cheer, but they don’t play the game for the players. No one wants to admit that the Nuggets were the better team that night.

gogomaplata....
Every player on every team thinks that they have a shot at doing greater things than they realistically should expect at the beginning of the season. My point is simply that the Dubs, this season, won more games than they probably should have overall, considering their roster.
Besides, we should be proud of the fact that the Warriors are even worth a damn right now, in comparison to where they have been the past 14 years. I’m especially excited to see Monta develop even more during the offseason, as well as Buike, Wright, and Biendris. We have one of the youngest rosters in the league, and to have them involved in playoff chases the past two years is a great tool to garner experience, whether or not they are even on the floor.
Who knows, maybe the NBA Gods will piss everyone off and the Dubs will cash in on their 2% chance at winning the lottery in a month. Then the whole league will be in an uproar about the postseason and lottery formats….

or dissappointment will die during the finals and you’re right all we could do is look foward but i still firmly “believe”. maybe i dont want to let go to last season?!? who knows. but i do know that the dubz didnt meet their own expectations. and really, making the playoffs was not a stretch for this team. honestly it wasnt.

No stretch for the Dubs to make the playoffs
is something I believe too. Personally, I think thats a testament to the power of Don Nelson, and getting his players to play hard and exceed expectations on a consistent basis. Matt Barnes during the run last year, and even Stephen Jackson’s play this year. I wish we had the momentum to get into the playoffs, but we just ran out of gas in the end.
