Trade Idea: Earl Watson & Chris Wilcox
This is not a totally original idea, I've heard it bandied about before, but i've wanted it for some time now. Here is how it will be possible:
1. Warriors sign Biedrins and Monta each long term for $10.0m per year ea.
2. Baron Davis exercises his one-year option for $17.0m (after finding out nobody will give him a max deal)
3. Warriors get the 14th pick (unfortunately they don't win the lottery)
4. Miami Heat draft PF-Michael Beasley with 1st pick (already have Wade to handle ball, and Marcus Banks is fine role player). With Banks / Wade / Marion / Beasley / Haslem, the Heat will have a very exciting team
5. Seattle (Oklahoma City) Sonics draft PG-Derrick Rose. Seattle can now pair Rose with Durant to rebuild the franchise. This leaves Earl Watson and Luke Ridnour as 2 big contracts for backup PG.
6. Warriors sign and trade F-Mickael Pietrus ($3.5m), $10.0m exception, and 14th pick to Seattle for G-Earl Watson ($6.0m), F-Chris Wilcox ($6.7m) [***will this work??? Need clarification of trade exception rules***]
6a. Seattle drafts F-Darrell Arthur (for example) to boast a young (cheap) lineup of Rose / Durant / Green / Arthur / Collison with backups of Ridnour / MickaelP / MickaelG :) and Petro / Sene (who cares).
6b. Golden State boasts a lineup of Baron / Monta / SJack / Wilcox / Biedrins, with now very strong bench of Watson / Belinelli / Harrington / BWrignt / Kosta. Now we have the muscle at the PF and depth at PG to bang with the 4's that always kill us, and keep Baron fresh.
7. Unfortunately I think this means we won't have the cash to re-sign Azubuike (though I like him as GF), Barnes (love his hustle), C.J Watson, POB, or Croshere (who cares)
8.
This will give us the same lineup through next yeat and the following
year. With the development of Ellis (into a superstar) and Biedrins
(into a double double machine), we will have some good young talent
(BWright, Belinelli & Perovic), some near-all star level veteran
leaders (BDavis & SJax), and some experienced role players
(Harrington, Wilcox, and Watson). That is great balance, and looks like
a potential championship team to me (or certainly a championship
contender for years to come (only 1 player over 30 years old).
We play Seattle tomorrow night, so lets all give Watson and Wilcox (the killer W's) and welcome them to the W's.
Sound reasonable? Do you think Seattle would do it? Let me know Warrior fans.
This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Chris Wilcox
Chris Wilcox only averages 7 rebounds a game which is only 1.5 different from Harringtons rebounding per game.
If you want rebounding, i suggest we go for david lee, he is a beast.

Actually...
Over the last 3 years Wilcox has averaged 12.0 reb/48min, while Harrington is at 9.7.
David Lee is insane at 15.0 reb/48min, but that won’t happen for several reasons.
Plus, Wilcox is a FINISHER around the basket. Harrington is the worst finisher on the team
and is better suited to stay around perimeter.

david lee
would be so perfect, and i like your thinking, but how could we get him? i know the knicks envisioned him as a building block but with the franchise in such turmoil im not sure anyone is untouchable. though i do think we’d have to be willing to take on jerome james’ contract with the tpe and i think id rather take a run at artest or josh smith. anybody think theres another way we could get lee?

#6 can't happen
You can’t trade combine the TPE with players.
Hard to imagine that’s a championship contender, anyway. Not with the Lakers trotting out a frontline of Gasol-Bynum-Odom-Turiaf to complement the best shooting guard in the universe.
On the bright side: we already have Watson at backup PG. :-)

What about 2 different trades?
One with the draft pick and Pietrus for Wilcox
One with TPE for Watson
Would that work? (not sure how draft pick is figured into salary matching)

TMNT
is still better than Wilcox because he stretches the D with his streaky perimeter shooting.
Wilcox does not do really do one think well. With his athleticism and body he should be a double-double machine but Nick Collison outdoes him night in night out.
Granted Earl is better than CJ at distributing and perhaps on D, I still would not want to pay that much for a backup point that would have problems playing alongside Monta when Baron’s on the bench because they would be too smallish.
Dubz should get themselves a big guard that can handle and dish as Baron’s backup like a Crittenton. That way, Monta can stick to guarding the point and not stronger and taller 2 guards.
Nelson could not rest Baron much because a backcourt of CJ and Monta would get abused even more so than Baron and Monta did.

Na i don't like it
We gotta get Artest and O Neal I Know salaries dont work but who would wanna expletive with us if we had a starting lineup Davis Ellis Jackson Artest O Neal.

lol
refs would have a field day calling all the ticky tack fouls and bad calls on the Dubz with that lineup.
If we do have that kind of lineup next year, then we should also bring PJ back to coach that team. No more choking. It’s going to be beat downs after every loss.
Monta has not gotten 1 tech in his career and he still gets no love from the refs. Does anyone notice this?

he's too quiet
kinda like Yao his first few years in the league, he was non-demonstrative and respectful to the refs, but the ref’s don’t see/ respect players who accept the call and keep playing.

that is a bad trade
We gotta get Elton Brand if we don’t land no high draft pick. Yes, Jackson have to go. We trade JAckson, the 10 millions dollars,Brandon wright to see if the clippers will fell for it. If they don’t we trade them the draft pick with it too.

This is a trade
I, nor Mullin would do.
I don’t think we’ll make a play at Brand either.
Realistically, we use our 14th selection on Love, Arthur or Greene.
Re-sign AB, and Monta and let Baron exercise his option.
We play out the 09-10’ season with the same core players.

love the idea
only suggestion…
harrington/ #1 pick/ c.j. watson = wilcox/ earl watson
i’ve come to dislike al immensely. his fadeaways from 3 feet out, inability to hit a clutch shot, the way his mouth looks.
starting 5 would then be: baron/monta/sjack/wilcox/beans
bench: earl watson/bellinelli/azubuike/bwright/perovic
2 more spots: croshere/adonalfoyle
brandan could also play center and azubuike can play the 2. wilcox can sometimes play center like al.
pretty flexible top 10 rotation.

What?
We’re going to solve our backup pointguard woes…and then create woes everywhere else? It leaves us with 1, count ‘em, 1 swing man on the bench. Those players are Don Nelsons life force, and if we made this trade, I doubt he’d ever come back. Marco Bellinelli is looking like total crapola so far (so far, I said), and Harrington is too big for Don Nelson to ever play him at SF or SG. So, we’ll have an extremely tired Ellis and Jackson or Bellinelli getting heavy minutes. It’s a lose-lose situation.

How about that rookie, Ramon Sessions?? He got 24 assists yesterday??? He would be a nice backup PG!

Not possible.
6. Warriors sign and trade F-Mickael Pietrus ($3.5m), $10.0m exception, and 14th pick to Seattle for G-Earl Watson ($6.0m), F-Chris Wilcox ($6.7m) [will this work??? Need clarification of trade exception rules]
No. It will not. The trade exception could be used on either Wilcox or Watson up until the time it expires shortly after the draft, but the remainder cannot be packaged with anything else to bring in a larger salaried player.
Sign and trades require players to be signed. The free agent period is after the draft and consequently, after the TPE has expired.
It’s also rather ridiculous to just toss in “sign and trade” as if any player is going to jump at this opportunity. Sign and trades require first and foremost the approval of the player involved. Pietrus has absolutely no motivation at all to take a sign and trade for less than the MLE, an amount he can try to negotiate with any team. I still suspect he thinks he’s worth more than that.
(For anyone trying to trade CJ Watson, he’s not under contract after year’s end. He is not an asset we can trade.)

Trade
First of all we cannot combine the trade exemption with another player.
Here is a way this trade would work. Keep in mind, we dont have many players under contract.
Harrington
Perovic
for
Watson
Wilcox
This trade is successfull in the ESPN trade machine. Not sure if Seattle would even make this trade unless we throw in a draft pick, but Perovic is a decent prospect. It may not be a bad trade considering we would have a PF who could finish down low and rebound and a backup point guard. Watson may be to expensive for a backup though. I am just hoping we can pull off a trade for Josh Smith, Artest type of player. Its going to be an interesting offseason.

Roger Mason
This guy will be a free agent this year and when given playing time, has produced nice #s. Big guard ala Gilbert Arenas plus he shoot 3s @ 40%. Would be a nice cheap ($3M) replacement for Pietrus (I am assuming he won’t be back). There are a nice group of PFs in this years draft so I think we can land one of them with our 14th or higher pick and we can still go after Brand with our TPE. If we can do this, we will be a really deep team next year if Wright and Marco contributes. I don’t think we will be able to move Harrington with the $ he is making (let’s hope he works on his game and get better defensively)

i think id prefer duhon
mason is bigger and has better range, but duhon is more of a true pg, and could steady the team when baron is resting. im guessing duhon will get a bigger contract but how much more i have no idea. mason wouldnt be too bad either though. if nothing else he couldnt light us up playing for some other team any more.

heard this on fitz and brooks the other day
interesting idea…wilcox could run the floor no problem, and watson is a decent backup
