another trade idea (dont read it if you hate these!)
I'd love to land Brand, Marion, AK47, Artest or Josh Smith. But landing one of those guys without parting with Baron, Monta or Biedrins is unlikely, so how about this idea? Warriors get David Lee, Jared Jeffries and Jerome James. Knicks get partial TPE and Al Harrington. It would have to be made in 2 seperate deals because the TPE cant be combined with players.
Donnie Walsh gets to make an immediate impact by dumping two bad contracts. Al's contract is also bad, but its shorter, he's a much better player than Jeffries or James and the knicks would also get a TPE to work with in future deals that are sure to come.
The Warriors get a great young rebounder in Lee who is athletic enough to play in their system and in the future he could play next to Wright and AB in the frontcourt. Jerome James is a terrible contract and I would suggest buying him out immediately after the trade, but taking him on would be a huge reason for the Knicks to make the trade. Jeffries is also a bad contract but he has the length, versatility, shooting ability and athleticism to really excel in this system. I think he could be a major contributor of the bench and replace pietrus/barnes.
If Baron returns, AB is signed to a reasonable extension, and Monta is locked up the warriors would probably then have just enough room under the cap to bring back buike. If the MLE was used on a backup pg for baron like Duhon I think theyd have a very good roster.
pg-Baron/Duhon/CJ Watson?
sg-Monta/Buike/Bellinelli
sf-Jack/Jeffries
pf-Lee/Wright
c-Biedrins/Kosta
Add to that a rookie big man and a rookie swingman. 1st rounders like-DeAndre Jordan, Hasheem Thabeet, Tyler Hansborough, Brandon Rush and Chris Douglas Roberts and 2nd rounders like-Bill Walker, Joey Dorsey, Serge Ibaka, and DeVon Hardin could all be good fits here.

Good Idea
Only problem is we dont need to get in to salary hell again back to DunCrap and MurphDawg years, but this is a good trade which favors both teams, only thing is I dont know if Walsh would really be willing to get rid of Lee.

james' contract expires
at the same time al’s would. jeffries is 6 mil a year i think. its overpaying for sure, but if he could fit in this system like i think he wouldnt it wouldnt be so bad. youre right the sticking point is walsh giving up lee….but he’s gotta do something to get rid of all those contracts right?

Hmm...
Well, my biggest concern would be bringing back an additional 4 mil at a time when we would be so hard pressed against the Luxury tax threshold (assuming we successfully re-sign Monta and AB). I have a hard enough time paying Jerome James 5.8 mil to be a total waste of space on our squad, but imagine how it would feel if we went into the lux tax and in fact paid 11.6 mil for him. OUCH.
As far as on the court goes, I don’t hate it. As I said James is a total waste of a roster spot (esp on a running team) but Lee could be the answer we need on the glass and I suspect Jeffries could step in as the Barnes/MP of next year (at a significantly higher pay scale).
The other question is “is it realistic?” Honestly, who knows. I can’t even begin to guess how Walsh will plan to attack the total mess in NY. Will his top priority be to shed payroll and rebuild? If this is the case he may be willing to part with a valuable commodity like Lee to shed some long-term contracts. Will his priority be to stock pile young talent and let all of the bad contracts on the team expire in the next few years while they rebuild? If this is the case there is no way he is letting go of Lee.
Either way it will be interesting to see if he can turn it around.

Well, It'd be a Nice Trade
But I live hear in New York, and let me tell you, the fans would riot in Madison Square Garden if the Knicks traded Lee, without somekind of better return. Even if Walsh thinks this is a great deal (he is looking to dump bad contracts) I don’t think he’d trade Lee without a true impact player in return. (He’d probably take Monta, but let’s not even go there.)

like the trade but no to James
This present team is not good enough to even make the playoffs, we need to upgrade to be competitive next season. How about Al for Jeffries and I would consider trading Monta/#14 pick to whoever has the #1 pick to get Beasley. Unless we get very lucky with the pingpong balls or draft a sleeper PF in the draft, we’ll never have a go to PF to compete. Monta is great offensively but we are abused on defense because our guards . Starting 5, Baron,Jackson, Al, Beasley, AB. We will be big at every position and still be able to run and gun and defend. Wright, Belinelli, Buke off the bench and sign Duhon, or Jack for backup PG. Draft Dorsey to back up AB.

Ehhh.
Very interesting idea, but I’d rather hang onto Harrington. Wright is going to be a massive rebounder in years to come, hopefully starting this next year. I say Keep Al/Brandan at the PF position, and focus on a backup for Biedrins.

I don't think Wright
Will be the rebounder AB is. He’ll get balls others can’t with his length, but until he can use his butt to box guys out, he’ll be out of position. He’s a great offensive rebounder though.

Oh I agree
but he’s a better rebounder than Harrington is. And, with some work, he can rebound almost as well as Lee. So I think we’re ok at the PF position and just need another Center.

Not for me
We don’t improve.
Lee doesn’t improve this team drastically. I’m not even sure he’d even play next to AB. Again, this deal is small potatoes when it comes to improving the overall picture of this Warriors team.
Mully has never really made sideways moves in the past. He’s a home run hitter in the realm of trades. I doubt he’d look at a trade like this.

really?
You dont like Lee? Or do you think the dubs need a PF with more offense? I just think its a little unrealistic to think we can land a real impact guy like Marion or Brand without giving up Monta or Baron or at the very least not signing Beans. I was thinking Lee would be a more reasonable target, though NY loves him. Mully has to know he cant bring the same exact team back and expect to be competitive. Even if Wright does make strides I dont think we can really count on Baron to be healthy all year again, and Portland and the Clippers will be significantly better. Its a tough situation.

So far it just seems like
Mullin and Co. are retooling than rebuilding. Maybe when they look back at this year, they’ll come to the conclusion that we just needed more depth. He didn’t play the rookies in fear of losing games. Barnes, Thud, Cro all gave next to nothing this year. Pietrus was hurt. Add in the fact that Nelson is in his (probably) last season as a head coach and Baron is on his last year. I think they’ll give it one more try with this core, while adding depth to this team for the 09-10 season.
I just think David Lee and Andris and Brandan all have similar skill sets as of right now. We all have seen Nellie’s reluctance to play AB and Brandan together. It’s hard for me to see Lee and AB/Wright on the court together as well. Plus the fact that we have to take on some pretty bad contracts isn’t appealing at all.
Of course i’d like to see some blockbuster moves, but i don’t think that’s gonna happen this summer.
Just to play along, If we were rebuilding, i’d hit two birds with one stone. I’d trade:
Baron Davis (17.2M) + Al Harrington (9.3M/(2)19.3M)
For
Larry Hughes (12.8M/(2)26.4M) + Drew Gooden (7.1M) +
Tyrus Thomas (3.7M/TO: 4.7M)
Chicago will trade their 2008 First Overall Pick (9th
overall).
Warriors now own the 9th, 14th, and 44th overall.
Gooden is an expiring contract, and Hughes has another year left on his deal. Tyrus sweetens the pot, though they’d much rather give up Nocioni than Thomas. Deal doesn’t get done without Thomas and the First.
With the picks we could either package them together and trade up or stand pat.

no way id make that deal
tyrus thomas is brandan wright with a bad attitude. we tried the hughes project, let someone else figure out that he’ll never be consistant. gooden might be ok, but is also very inconsistent and would either get a pretty good sized deal next year or leave….neither is a real good option. nobody is gonna deal one of the top 2 picks, so the numbers 9 and 14 wouldnt help that much. i see where youre going with a young cheap group of monta, ab, wright, thomas and two rookies. but i dont want to start building for 3 or 4 years from now, and by then theyd all need large contracts and we’d be right back where we started. baron and monta compliment each other so well i think we should continue to build around the backcourt.

Thus this was my hypothetical-not-gonna-happen rebuilding trade.
They won’t do it though.
My reasoning behind this was:
Maximize Baron’s trade value now. The Bulls need a PG. The Bulls have a lot of Good players, and not a lot of Great players. Gooden and Hughes are my picks because they are expiring or near expiring contracts.
I included Tyrus because:
1. They probably wouldn’t include Deng.
2. We don’t need Gordon, Noah or Nocioni.
3. Thomas at least has the potential to swing between the 3-4. He could play alongside the frontline of Wright and AB. It does remind me of a young Marion-Stoudamire frontline too. It actually gives us size for once too!
The trade up idea was just a thought to get my hands on Mayo. He’d compliment Monta well, as i’ve stated a lot before. I don’t know if Marco Belinelli is a full time starter alongside Monta. We’d have next to no perimeter defense out there. We need Defense out there if we want to start going places.
OMike…I tend to over value the draft. I know it. I think I have a little Billy Beane in me. I’d like to trade our established players a year or two early to maximize their value than when they’re on their way down.

not play for national team in this year?
There is a little basketball tournament this year called the Olympic Games, me thinks if Latvia and or Croatia made it we would be seeing the boys playing for their National teams. BTW, I wouldn’t tell Perovic to his face that he is Serbian, not unless you have your health insurance paid up. LOL

Umm...
As far as I know neither Serbia or Latvia are still in contention for the Olympics. Only the top six teams from Eurobasket 07 had a chance to qualify (2 automatic and 4 to enter this years qualifying tourney). Latvia and Serbia finished tied for 13th place : (
As far as Kosta’s nationality goes, he was born in Croatia, but as far as I can tell he has always played for the Serbian national team. In fact if you take a look at this pic from preseason he seems pretty proud to be associated with Serbia.

Trading BoomDizzle again???
Its funny that Baron’s name keeps coming up in trade thoughts on GsoM…. what do we all want from the guy?
This year we had three players drag us kicking and screaming to 48 wins, and b/c of that two of them hit the wall when they surpassed their personal season highs in minutes played. As a ballplayer myself I’ve hit walls before, and its nearly unfathomable that guys can play 82 and not lose their legs completely.
The Dubs CANNOT lose the big three for next season, and realistically they need to shore up the bench big time. We all love our guys as good homers do, but honestly, the only guys who could demand any playing time on other rosters in the league would be Buike and Pietrus (and MP was kinda lost this year for awhile). Not many teams can boast winning records with as little bench production as we got this year, let alone be 14 games over .500 in one of the best conferences ever. If we can get a maybe two more quality role players to compliment our core for next year, and couple that with improvements from Monta, AB, and even Brandan, we should be ok, and at the least be excited all the way through April again. Come on, Mully!

starting 5 not good enough
unfortunately our starting 5 will never win a championship and not good enough to make the playoffs. In order to win next year we will need to trade one of our big 3 in order to either get a free agent big or move up in the draft to get Beasley. Baron with his big contract would have to be moved for a free agent big like Brand and Monta would have to be included to move up in the draft to hopefully get Beasley. We need a go to power forward to compete against Boozer, Stoudamire, Gasol and a backup center to help defend and keep them from getting career highs off us. Baron’s time is almost up probably has 3 good years left, while Monta has a bright future ahead of him. If we want to win now we keep Baron, if we want to build for the future we keep Monta. I don’t see any teams willing to give away an all star power forward for scrubs, with the exception of lowly Memphis.

agree...
We need a big “low post” presence. Unfortunately it’s going to cost the Dubs money or some players to land a top caliber post player. If Nelly and BD decides one more go around Mully and the front office might need to push the luxary tax threshold for this upcoming season. Our line up as is will not do it.
Just make it happen!!!

trade idea??
What about AH and 2008 lottery pick for a sign and trade for Okafer?? I don’t know if the Bobcats would accept this but I think the warriors would do it. They might also have to include Marco but I still would do it. What do you guys think about Okafer? Would he fit the system and be able to battle all the western conference pfs. Would him and AB together as a front line be good or are they to skiny to put together? I know he had some back problems and he did turn down a 60mill ext. The Bobcats might want keep Okafer and make him the face of the franchise.

id be hesitant to make that trade. seems like okafor would make beans redundant. he’s a better defender and would give us another presence, but he has very little post game relying mostly on putbacks like beans and has no range, but will probably get paid like an upper tier power forward.

need to wait for disgruntled PF
we will either have to wait for a trade or keep drafting a PF until we get one that we can play. Okafor would be too expensive and put us over the cap unless we trade Biedrins/and or Al. We’re better off developing Wright, drafting someone to replace Pietrus and Barnes and picking up a free agent backup PG like Duhon or Jack.
