What are we going to do?
With free agency looming, the chances of Pietrus staying are slim to none.
I have not been a big fan of his this season but he has proved me wrong of late.
I know priorities are to resign Monta and Beans and management most likely will be able to do so.
I don't forsee Baron opting out either and we would probably be able to keep Buki at a reasonable price too.
Barnes is most likely out of here unless he signs for the minimum or something. But the one guy that the Dubz will probably lose and miss the most is Pietrus.
It's obvious we need more of his brand of defense and energy. If he leaves, I don't know how we could get any better than we are. At the late teens spot where we will draft, I doubt there will be someone who can match P's intensity, rebounding and defense.
Brandon Rush looks like he could be a solid defender with his frame, but even if the Dubz drafted him, would Nellie play him?
I love watching the Dubz play day in night out, but aside from our current players like B-Wright getting immensely better, I don't know how else we can improve this offseason.
What are your thoughts?

some thoughts
monta ellis is our number one priority this offseason.
mullin should sign biedrins this summer, but he shouldn't give him a long contract unless he absolutely has to. getting biedrins to sign for another one year deal would be in both biedrins' and the warriors favor.
it's a shame pietrus is leaving, and it's a shame he's shut himself down for the stretch run. we really could have used him. it's going to hurt watch him be a big contributor for another team next year and having to hear announcer after announcer say "where did this guy come from! why didn't the warriors play him!"
we're getting worse year by year. last year was our best year. this year we missed j rich/consistent bench production/consistent production from any of our bigs. next year we'll be worse than this year if we lose pietrus and only bring up d leaguers to replace him.
so if i'm the gm, and i notice that our team seems to be leveling off, what do i do?
this may seem blashphemous here, but i was wondering if anyone else has been thinking what i've been thinking. does anyone sorta secretly hope baron opts out? here's a highly hypothetical situation:
baron opts out
brand opts out
we sign brand, we draft russell westbrook at 14 (assuming we miss the playoffs, which clearly is not a foregone conclusion.)
then we have a starting lineup of
westbrook
ellis
jackson
brand
biedrins
we suddenly have a nice defensive team that can rebound and still run and score.
i think westbrook would compliment ellis nicely. they're both quick, they can both attack the rim, westbrook can always matchup on the better guard, and he gives way more effort on defense than baron. now, of course rose would be better, but that seems a bit unrealistic. i'm not that interested in augustin because he's small, same with collison. westbrook would be nice. brand would make biedrins look 4 times better. i think that team contends for years to come, and improves steadily behind westbrook, ellis, and biedrins.
Huh?!?!?!
"Improves steadily behind... beans"?
Iggy, it's like I don't even know you. Has your identity been stolen?
This isn't a bad idea, but I'd still much rather pay a healthy BD than a fresh of an ACL tear Brand, and they'll likely be in the same payscale.
I'm not going to look into it, but I'm pretty sure there'll be a few more options out there if we are faced with that possibility. Shawn Marion comes to mind. We could offer to S&T Baron and our #1 for Rose. Would that even be enough?

brand didn't tear his acl
i may have spoken too soon in my post, because denver incredibly lost. but i think it's safe to say our team seems to be topping out potential wise.
the only reason baron davis played the whole season is because its a contract year. no doubt in my mind. he'll never, ever, do it again. i guarantee it. as great as he is, we're eventually handing the team over to monta, so we could do it sooner rather than later, pay someone else baron's money, and become a title contender, something we won't be with the present roster.
marion would be a cool addition as well. brand would be better though. nellie would have to switch up his philosophy a little bit but a starting lineup of
westbrook
ellis
jackson
brand
biedrins
contends. i mean, we match up real well. load up the bench with three point shooters (bellinelli and harrington come to mind) and we're cool. i could see this team beating utah. it would be exciting, and very conceivable.
and dubs fan, that's funny you pointed out my praise of biedrins. i don't think he's a bad player, and watching him recently leads me to believe that he really could improve with some help on defense/rebounding. anyway, my argument the whole time is that he's not worth 60 mil, which i still stand by, but i don't think he'll get it this summer due to his inconsistant play all year, which is great for us.
baron's the team leader, but i could cope with him leaving if mullin replaced him and upgraded the power forward spot, and i think that would be possible with the money we'd save by letting b dizzle go.
Brand
I will look into it in greater detail later but it's something you might want to do some research on seeing as it is your idea. I could be wrong, let me know what you find out.

cap space
If we do this, depending on how much the new cap is, Baron's departure would give us somewhere between $15 and $18 million to offer to free agents. This absolutely means saying goodbye to Pietrus and Barnes and relies on Azubuike not opting out and/or doing so on a timeline that puts his contract situation on hold pending the signing of other players. Signing Ellis and Biedrins first would kill almost all of this space and mean that Baron's salary would walk away with almost no ability to replace it with another player.
I hope I'm wrong but I just have this crazy feelin
by JimBarnett2KevinGarnett on Apr 6, 2008 7:58 PM PDT reply actions
i have that feeling too
Miami's cap situation
5 years 75 million when signing with a new team requires an opening bid of $13million a year. The list of teams that will be $13 million under the cap is short. Depending on what the cap is (somewhere in the 55 to 60 million range)very few teams fit the bill. Most of them (Miami, Washington, LAC) are in that bunch only if a big name opts out and they don't keep him. Another couple (Chicago and Atlanta) are there only if they let their guys coming off rookie deals walk away without raises. Seattle, New Jersey, Portland and Minn have positioned themselves to be spenders in one more year, but that's one more year. "Who wants to play in Memphis?" could be the question free agents have to ask themselves this offseasn.

pacers
anyone out of there that was involved in that fight. Jermaines the last one and pacers are trying to change that image so we should give them more white boys. Plus it seems mullins has a good relationship with Indiana. He also played after the warriors.
Rehash Jermaine O'neal is a mistake.
free up
game. Y cuz hornets suck just like Indiana. The dubs make
u an entirely diff player. I don't see other teams pick up
d leaguers and make them superstars (buike). That said free jo
Other teams do pick up D-Leaguers

BD then and Jermaine now are very different situations. Baron had been in the league since the 99-00 season (he was acquired in the middle of his 6th season and was 26 years old), O'Neal has been around since 96-97 and is now in the middle of his 12th season in the league at 29. O'Neal has also missed 120 games in the last 4 seasons. When we acquired Baron, he'd missed 75 games in 3 seasons.
In summary, when we acquired BD, he was younger, had half as many seasons in the league, and had half the injury history of Jermaine O'Neal now.
I seriously doubt Jermaine O'Neal would be able to keep up with the Warriors.
