Around SBN: Headlines: BC Beats BU 4-3 in 58th Beanpot Championship

What is more likely to happen?

As of right now, the Warriors are half a game behind Denver for the final 8th spot. After Denver plays tonight, both teams will have 5 games remaining.

So let's say Denver beats Seattle tonight, which is the most likely scenario. The remaing schedules look like this: (Denver would be up a full game)

Warriors:
4/8     Sacramento
4/10   Denver
4/12   LA Clippers
4/14 @ Phoenix
4/16   Seattle

Denver:
4/8 @ LA Clippers
4/10 @ Golden State
4/12 @ Utah
4/13 Houston
4/16 Memphis

If both teams win the games they "should win" and lose the games they "should lose", this is what I see happening (And I mark the GS-Den game as a Warrior win for the sake of the argument, cause if they lose, the season is pretty much over):

Warriors:
4/8     Sacramento W
4/10   Denver W
4/12   LA Clippers W
4/14 @ Phoenix L
4/16   Seattle W

4-1

Denver:
4/8 @ LA Clippers W
4/10 @ Golden State L
4/12 @ Utah L
4/13 Houston L
4/16 Memphis W

2-3

This would put GS up a full game and into the playoffs.

The bold is because I see those two games as neither "should win" or "should lose." It can go both way for either game. So my question is this: What is more likely to happen? A win for the Warriors at Phoenix, or a win for Denver at home against Houston?

If the Warriors can win that Phoenix game, assuming we win every other "should win" game, we're in. If they were to lose that game, however, we would need Denver to lose against Houston, assuming they have lost their "should lose games"

Long diary, I know, but what do you guys think? [editor's note, by WarriorForLife]

The second poll answer hould read "DEN win" not "DEN loses." I can't edit it now, though.

Update [2008-4-7 0:6:11 by WarriorForLife]: SONICS BEAT DENVER!!!

As of tonight, there is a 5 game season for the Warriors and Nuggets. The Warriors again control their own destiny. This Thursday matchup between those two keeps getting bigger and bigger.

It all depends
on whether our team still trusts each other after the loss at New Orleans today, and whether we come out again as a team to play Sacramento. That's the only game we can worry about right now. If we lose to Sacramento, none of the other games matter.

_
houston's defense could, and would hopefully, negate denver's offense.
but since the streak houston has pretty been sub par in my opinion.
denver also begins a road trip the night after a home loss and then plays a road-home back-to-back. hopefully denver will blow some games on the road, as their record might indicate they are prone to doing. so I won't count seattle or l.a. out until i see the box score.
but the warriors still have an uphill battle to take that final playoff spot.

depends
If Houston craps out a little bit and is out of the race for homecourt they will be resting their players, and, T mac prob wont even make that trip. If they are playing for homecourt different story.

If the Suns crap out and aren't in the race for home court they will prob rest their starters. If they are playing for homecourt, again different story.

The way I see it looking at the schedule is the team that looses the April 11th Suns v. Rockets game will be out of contention for that homecourt and rest it's players the next game. Based on the info available to us today one is not more likely to happen then the other. The real question you should be asking is which team will lose a game they shouldn't lose.

What a concept
How about we sack up and just win out and let the chips fall where they may.  That's what Nellie said.  Of course he also said this team isn't as good as last (because the lack of bench depth).

Where do I start with that logic.  Managment could have er should have traded MP and POB for whatever we could have gotten and now wouldn't be looking at two stiffs in street clothes riding the bench.  Priceless.

Then there is the TPE.  We knew we would be struggling to make the playoffs let alone get past the first round.  So why not pull the trigger and get us someone who could contribute? Not being on the inside of Warrior management, I'm sure it isn't as easy as I'm making out; but, for crying out loud, is it no wonder our bench isn't as deep as it could have been. Pure genuis.

And let us not forget Nellie's total unwillingness to give our rookies, at least Marco and Brandon, enough playing time during the first part of the season that they would/could be more productive role players.  What a concept--bring the rooks along to help late in the season.  Brilliant.

So, Nellie totally overplays Baron, Jax and Monta and is surprized the team is out of gas at the end of the season when we esentially need to win every game to make the playoffs.

Whether we make the playoffs or not, we are toast in the first round unless we play Dallas or Houston sine Yao.  Then we might have a chance although I think Adelman now has figured out how to beat Nellie's brand of basketball.

CWebb is undoubtedly the answer but I forgot the question.

agree
and let me just toss in the wasted time (didn't I read where negotiations had been going on for MONTHS) and focus getting Chris Webber to return (which produced absolutely zero results and only served as a distration in getting him to blend in the starting lineup) while sitting on a trade exception and letting rookies with potential sit on the bench when we could have used some fresh energy in the 2nd half of this game as our starting lineup runs out of gas (have I ever seen Baron put up more air balls than I have today?).

Nellie gets the credit for brining the team back to life but I don't see the Warriors getting any better than they are right now with him as the coach going forward and Mullin in the front office.

Not to mention
putting the players through a "mini-camp" during the all-star break when the players were in desperate need of some R&R.

AGREE
With Centerre and Commish. There are reasons Nellie has not won a title. We also need a "D" minded assistant coach,as well as playing our bench.I also agree letting Pietrus hang out and POB go to waste is Bad Management.

Will
everyone hate Nelson and Mully if the Warriors make the playoffs? I think Mully held on to the trade exception to see how far this team could go currently constructed. Now he knows exactly what he needs to provide the team to make them take that next step. They still have until draft day to use the exception and they have valuable assets that teams covet if he needs to make a trade. This team is exciting, they are good and they would make the playoffs any other season and we act like they are the Warriors of old. I think we keep Nelson for one more year and Mullin makes some changes to make this team better. Mullin has a plan and he will do something big, I feel it.
I love the Bay Area.

Hate is too strong a word
Monta4Prez, I never have "hated" Nelson and deeply respect what he has accomplished including bringing a very exciting brand of ball to the Bay Area. I am just frustrated by what I and others (still in a minority) see as his clear limitations.  He is 67 and I don't expect him to change and why should he, per se. But I'd rather move forward without his, shall I say, deep convinctions or predilicitions. And I didn't even go to what Centerre brought up about Webber. What a fiasco that was although I get it could have worked out. However, I still stand by my tagline which you can read for yourself.

I will not feel one iota different if and when we make the playoffs nor when we lose in the first or possibly second round.  That's when we get murdered on the boards by a bigger and stronger team because we have not drafted or traded for defensive minded players. I won't bore you (again) with my reasons for wanting to move into a post-Nelson era; but, I will say I never would say I hated on Nelson and, in fact, I have great respect for him. Those are your words, not mine.

CWebb is undoubtedly the answer but I forgot the question.

I respect that
you feel that way, and I often question some of Nellie's moves as well. I too feel that the W's need to switch to a more defensively focused style of play, but I truly feel that Mullin has this franchise going the correct way and I feel he's going to make significant upgrades. I respect you though and I feel your pain. But we gotta have faith in these guys, they have brought us back what we deserve and that's winning Basketball.
I love the Bay Area.

Its hard to really complain
This is the toughest season in the west EVER. WE are a good team Nelson didn't play his cards well, I think he knows that and there is a lot of room for improvement. We probably won't make the playoffs but I still like this team a lot and I am not mad. We got screwed out of the laker game and overall picked a bad year to play great. WE HAVE to run the table now and I am not sure we can without Jackson playing much much better

Funny
One game changes everything. The finish line is going to be a roller coaster so might as well sit back and enjoy the ride.

Sure there were some things Mullin and Nelson could have done during the season to make it easier for us to get in, but hopefully they learn from their mistakes and build on the success of this years team.

The only thing I'm really confused about is why, after last night in Memphis, did Nelson not play Bellinelli and match him up against Peja.

by tangel29 on Apr 7, 2008 12:10 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Nelson doesn't like playing rookies
Remember when Wright started a few games and did pretty darn well.  Then he was benched for a long time after that until Beans was out and Webber had left the squad.  Makes no sense to me but we will probably win 50 games.  Go figure....
CWebb is undoubtedly the answer but I forgot the question.

by commish on Apr 7, 2008 9:24 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nelson...
probably had this season mapped out a little differently. Play the starters hard - rack up enough wins and coast to the playoffs with one of the lower seeds while resting starters to get them ready. Nelson probably didn't foresee having 45 wins late in  the season and still fighting for the last spot - not to mention all things changed early with the 0-6 hole we dug ourselves.

Compound that with the lack of reinforcements  at the deadline... you are left with demoralized and tired starters - they want to win, but their bodies just aren't allowing them to perform at the level they would like.

Nelson will probably admit as much in the off-season.

Go Warriors!
I too think the dubs will go 4-1. but this is how i think it will go:

Warriors:
4/8     Sacramento W
4/10   Denver W
4/12   LA Clippers L
4/14 @ Phoenix W
4/16   Seattle W

The two teams i fear the most is Sacramento and the Clips.

If Ron Artest doesnt play tomorrow, my mind will be more at ease. I think the Warriors dont know what to do with Elton Brand. He hasn't played against this Warrior team this season, so maybe he'll have a bad game and I'll be wrong.

The Nuggets always scare me with the talent they have on that team, but they are dumb if they think they can outscore us. They have to play team defense on us. They can kill us if they go with the low post everytime. Carmelo could just dunk on us all night. I hope Al steps up or Brandon Wright with defense against him.
