Pietrus to return tonight against the Kings?

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/rumors/post/Pietrus-hopes-to-return-Tuesday-from-hamstring-i?urn=nba,757 08

The Golden State Warriors ran a 3-on-3 scrimmage for Mickael Pietrus after their regular practice Monday to test out his injured right hamstring.

Pietrus, who has missed the last nine games, said he'll see how his leg responds Tuesday before making a final call on his availability against the Sacramento Kings Tuesday night.

"It's my hamstring's decision, because I went through a lot today and it's going to be sore," Pietrus said after his first full-contact workout in more than two weeks. "Hopefully, (Tuesday) is going to be better. I'm very athletic, so it'll take away a little bit of my athleticism, but I'm trying to get through it as best I can."

Star-divide

I really hope he can come out tonight, and especially Thursday against the Nuggets, with that same intensity on both ends of the floor. His presence was sorely missed on this road trip; a six or seven man rotation took it's toll. The Warriors need Pietrus's intensity now - these two games - just as badly as they needed it before he went out.
Let's hope Pietrus comes through healthy and active tonight.

Haha!
So true about his athleticism. THE COURT CANNOT CONTAIN AIR FRANCE! And he will beat you at scrabble if you don't watch out ;-)

0.72 turnovers per game, Dude
in 20+ minutes.

Since when did this "stepping out of bounds" thing become some urban legend. He barely turns the ball over.

Manm this guy gets killed with the most idiotic claims of any player I have ever seen.

I think it's
how his turnovers are always ill timed (well, i guess there's no such thing as a well timed turnover) and almost always unforced. Like traveling, stepping out.

But you're right that the numbers say otherwise... he was playing so well before he got hurt, that you could live with any turnovers

I thought
it was a groin injury?

Anyways, I hope he comes back.

Am I Michael Scott? I don't know. I might just be a basketball machine.

what if....
I was thinking...

WHAT IF PIETRUS COMES BACK AND SUCKS?

We really need another body off the bench that Nelson will actually USE.

I hope he comes back energized and focused and picks up from where he left off before he injured himself.

As much as I like who is a part of Nellie's 6.5 man rotation right now we need to win out these last 5 games to see the playoffs and that means Pietrus please come back healthy.

I read the same thing...
because I kept pietrus on my fant team. LOL.

You guys still have him?

I have a feeling he plays tonight to help prove to the fans that he isn't selfish and is a team player.

Hope he does play to help out a tired steve jack and b.d.

Contract Year
Correct me if I'm wrong but Pietrus is going to be a free agent after this season. So here is my "theory"....

Pietrus wanted out before the trade deadline but didn't get it. At that point he figured that whining isn't going to get him anything so he better make the most of the minutes that Nellie gives him and he did exactly that. I think he was playing so well because he knows he will be a free agent at the end of the season and saw it as a chance to audition for other teams and a nice big paycheck. This ended up working out great for both Pietrus and the Warriors because he played well.... that is up until he got hurt.

Here is where my theory really comes in. Pietrus wasn't hurt so badly that he couldn't play. He knows he can play with this injured groin/hamstring but doesn't want to play poor to ruin his chances for that big contract next season with another team. So he sits and makes it seem like it's a worse injury than it actually is. He won't come back till he is 100%. If I were his teammates, I would be calling him out right now. Hurt or not, contract or not, he needs to get out there and play and play well. The Warriors are too close to a playoff spot for Pietrus to wuss out on us now. And if he really wants to show off his talents for another team, the playoffs are probably the best stage to do it.

If he comes back tonight against Sacramento, I expect him to play very aggressively. More aggressively than you would expect someone who just came back from an injury.

And that is my 2 cents.

Well...
I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I can't say I haven't had the same thoughts as you. Especially after hearing Jackson's comments last week.

Mike
I 100% agree. Pietrus won't play for us unless he's fully healthy because he doesn't want anything to hurt his chances for landing a big deal this summer. If he plays, he'll be explosive and overly aggressive like he always will. It's really too bad he hates Nelson so much, he's a hell of a talent, I think he'll do really well for someone else next year.

Free agency ruined sports for fans.

that makes no sense
Pietrus does himself no favors in a contract year if he is hurt.

Look at Baron Davis. He's played every game this year. He's also in a contract year. Coincidence? Of course not. Baron needs to show other teams that he can hold up for a entire season so he can get paid after this year. Baron hasn't played 70+ games in a season since he signed his max deal with the Hornets.

If Pietrus were really so worried about his contract so much he woudn't be sitting out when he wasn't injured.

Use your head.

Plus
It was the Warrior traning staff that was making the decision to hold him out. They were the ones making the quited about him not being able to play. What didi Pietrus do, pay them off or something? Do you read the papers much?

The fact is Pietrus was paying the best ballof his career before he got hurt. He was leading the team inr ebousding and minutes played for a strecth of about 15 games. We need the dude back badly. Our defense stats have been really sufferring since he's been out and so has our won/lost record.

Call it bad luck becuase that's what it is. Look, we've been relatively injury-free this year compared to all the other clubs in the west. We were unrealistically lucky until now. Your "theory" is off-base. Haters will obviously latch on to it but it makes no sense.

And as for Jackson, he should know better than to air locker room laundry in the press. That was pretty bush league. Besides, he's played like crap since that comment so maybe it's karma. What a leader. Sheesh. Shut up and play better, Jack. We need you!

Training Staff
If Pietrus wanted to play he would play. The training staff would "recommend" that Pietrus doesn't play because he could aggravate the injury. But if you consider the situation that the Warriors are in, just outside of the playoff picture, the training staff wouldn't stop Pietrus from getting out on the court.

I am sure if Baron Davis went to the training staff and had them check him out, they would say that he has multiple injuries that could keep him out of the lineup. But you see Baron Davis out there at the start of every game.

I am not a hater. I really like Pietrus (except with Bob Fitzgerald calls him Air France) and I want to see him play well. I would love to see him back with the Warriors next year but he doesn't want to be there. For both his sake and the Warriors sake, he needs to get out on the court and show the league, the Warriors, and the We Believe Fans what he can do.

by NBA on Apr 8, 2008 4:24 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

ok, somewhat agree
The training staff flies a lot by the feedback of the player to make recommendations, but they are being straight when they say that if the hammy and groin are still injured he could re0injure it in 2 minutes and tht;s that. It's a calculated gamble. But hamstrings are iffy injuries (ask any of who has had one.)

That's my point about Baron (and, indirectly, Pietrus). The more Baron plays, the more $$ he makes next year. Same woth Pietruis to a dgeree.

Pietrus is right about his athleticism being compromised. His athleticism is what makes him valuable.

Pietrus' Hamstring
Having had a hamstring injury (never had a groin  injury, thank God) I know that you can still play on it depending on the severity. Yes, it will definitely hamper your ability to move around the court and your "athleticism" but my feeling is that Pietrus could have played through it. Evidence of that was shown last night when he was flying all over the court after starting off very quietly.

Don't get me wrong. I love Pietrus and I love to see him throwing the ball down with everything he's got and building a roof over Kevin Martin but it seemed to me that he didn't have any type of injury at all.

honestly
Id rather have him 100 percent healthy than trotting him out there at 75% and making error after error and ends up hurting us. I mean its not like he's Michael Jordan at 100% anyway (i know who is) when healthy.

Have him completely heal his injury and hopefully IF we make the playoffs he then can make a huge differnce.

If we dont make the playoffs, well we might have seen the last of Air Enigma in a W's uni.

Hamstrings are tough
Ask Steve Smith of the Carolina Panthers, or Randy Moss his last year in Minny.  They're really easy to re-aggravate.  And with all the jumping and landing in BBall, I'm sure it's just that much easier.  You have to be patient.  I'd much rather have a 100% Pietrus than a 75% Pietrus testing it in a real live game.

Trainers do have some power.  They're not all yes-men.

OK
Randy Moss might not be the best example, but my point still stands.  Hamstrings take a while to fully heal.

PS.  I pulled my groin once.  It sucked and hurt a lot.  I don't recommend it.
