Toronto Raptors VP Maurizio Gherardini Interested in Marco Belinelli
"Danilo Gallinari is available during the next draft. Is he a player who can fit in with the Raptors?
'Gallinari is an optimal player. The problem is that we pick 17th this year and by that time Gallinari will have been selected by another team.'
Could you make a trade to ensure a higher draft pick?
'We can, certainly, but that would not guarantee that we’d get Gallinari. Last season we tried to do the same thing to get Belinelli but it didn’t work out.'
But Belinelli isn’t playing for Golden State. Considering him doesn’t seem to be out of the question. Wouldn’t you like to bring him to Toronto and have him play alongside Bargnani?
'Belinelli is a very talented player who can do well in the NBA. However, just like Bargnani, he has physical strength issues. I’m convinced that he’d integrate well in a situation such as Toronto, and that here he’d have more opportunity than he had at Golden State.'" -- Mario Cangnetta for Tandem

i dont know
i think marco traded will turn him into that warrior guy that left and became a superstar. it just sounds weird,
So I don't have a signature well these words would do! Who knew that upgrades can have downgrades too!

give
us moon and kapono and i might do it. belinelli has so much potential that i don’t really want to trade him unless for something good.
It's Been A Great Year! Thanks Warriors!

Belinelli
I hope we don’t trade Belinelli unless we get someone good in return and it seems unlikely that they’d trade someone like Calderon.

Although it's a small sample size...
In the games that Marco played more than 10 minutes (9 games):
MPG – 16.4
FG% – 43.3%
3pt% – 46.2%
PPG – 7.6
PPG/40 – 18.4
No doubt he needs to work on the rest of his game (rebounding, quickness etc) but those numbers show some potential.
Plus, I’d much rather watch his fade away J as opposed to Jax’s.

Too small of a sample size...
While not quite as extreme as saying Tim Duncan is shooting 50% from 3 point land in these playoffs, it’s still a tiny sample size.
Just looked up his game log from those that you selected… seriously dude. Without the last game, he shot 5-16 from 3s for a 30% 3pt%.
You’re picking and choosing your samples. My dad has a saying about statistics: “Statistics lie and liars figure”.

First of all, I agreed it was a small sample size (see title).
As far as your “without the last game” comment, you’re calling MY data misleading while YOU’RE advocating omitting data?
Obviously I’m picking and choosing my samples. That’s what a sample is. Obviously there are other factors that don’t make these stats completely indicative of his future. For example, most of these games were when we were losing by a lot or he was playing against scrubs, but it works both ways. He also wasn’t playing with playmakers mostly; he had no one to set him up.
Could his numbers have been better if he was? Maybe. All I put forward is his ACTUAL stats from when he played over 10 minutes in a game (or the time I thought it takes for a player to get into the flow of the game). Point is that overall, those number aren’t bad for a rookie. Wasn’t trying to fool anyone. Thought that was obvious.

Sheesh
Obviously I’m picking and choosing my samples. That’s what a sample is.
No, actually, a sample is a single data point. Picking and choosing your samples is cheating.
Look, you made a decent judgement on your samples by including only ones where he spent a decent amount of time on the court, and you should be commended for doing that instead of saying “Well, when he plays exactly 19 minutes, he shoots the lights out…” or “if you look at the games where he scores more than 10 points, he usually scores a lot”. Good job for being objective.
However, when a single data point completely changes the scientific meaning of the data the validity of the entire data set comes into question. Either:
1) that data point is an anomaly that should be thrown out
or
2) the data set is just too small to mean anything
I was giving Belinelli the benefit of the doubt by saying that it’s just too small of a sample size to be properly judged. If you throw that data point out, the numbers are pretty grim.
I even think that his last game should mean the most because he was actually playing in a game where he had an opportunity to effect the outcome. Maybe it means he steps up to the challenge. And if you look at the overall production (counting everything), he shot 39% from beyond the arc, which is pretty good and hard to fake.
But it’s still way too small of a sample size to mean anything. Let’s reevaluate after next year if he plays 1000 minutes and takes 400 shots. That would mean something.

I vote that we work a S&T for Calderon once Baron leaves
Belinelli & Harrington for Calderon
Or we could just give them our first and the TPE for Calderon and then trade them Belinelli and S&T Pietrus for Kapono. Or something…
by Dubs fan in Boston on May 12, 2008 1:12 PM PDT 0 recs
None of those would probably work...
What with CBA governing everything. The bottom line is that I want Bosh or Calderon. Belinelli, Al, and our first for Bosh?
Calderon wants a starting spot. Without Baron, we can give that to him.

there's no real reason
to trade bellinelli before his rookie contract is up. i’m assuming we’re not going to get top tier talent if we trade him, and we might as well watch him develop for the next two years, since its not taking that big of a hit on the payroll.

You are missing the main point (imho)
Regardless of whether the stats are biased or not, doesn’t it come down to whether 1. Marco improves over the summer; and 2) even if he does, will Nelson-our “presumptive” coach next season-will bother to play him. We don’t have that information; nor do I know if Marco will be playing for the Italian team in this summer’s Olympics. I’m not sure that will help or hurt. It seems to me that the players who do play for their countries, while obviously admirable, leaves them with very little time off from the rigors of playing all out for pretty much a year straight.
For the statsistically minded, there are external variables you have to consider. I’d go with a known entity and take Calderon or Kappono. If Marco blows up, let it be in the East.
CWebb is undoubtedly the answer but I forgot the question.
