A couple possibilities at PG/SG
Over the last few days,I have thought of a couple different ways the waariors could go from here. One way to go is go after JR Smith. This guy is one of the most underrated players in the nba. For a guy who only played 20 minutes a game, he would come off the bench and score 12 points a game and shoot 40% for 3-point range. He is an averag defender, but an explosive dunker and a lights out shooter. And he is only 22. HE is a restricted FA. If we get him, then Baron is most likely gone. So now we would have Monta at point and Smith a SG, two guys that are 22 and about to hit their prime.
Another possiblity would be sort of a situation that we would not want to happen, but might so we need to address it. If Baron opts out and wants a bigger and longer contract, we have to say no. He deserves 15mil for 1-2 years at most. So if he were to leave the Dubz, and we are unable to get a guy like JR smith, we have to do something. So we shouldlook north of the border. The Toranto Rapters. We should offer the a 2009 lottery protected pick for T.J. Ford. We would have by far, the fastest backcourt in the nba,and although we would rather have baron, it is certainly better than nothing
The last possiblity is a move on draft day. If the Chiago bulls pass up on Derrik Rose, and the Miami Heat draft him, we can do something. We should re-sign baron and trade him to the heat for Rose and someone to eat up some caps space.

thats
utterly rediculous.. baron for rose? why in the world would miami do that? miami will be thinking Chris Paul if they can get Rose.
Nope
Baron will not opt out of his contract everyone wants him to stay, and plus no team is going to sign him anyway with the money we are offering him, with the contract he’s getting from us now….why would you opt out of it? HE IS STILL ON HIS MISSION TO GET US TO THE PLAY-OFFS
I disagree izzle......
When asked if he wanted to bring a champoinship to Oakland he said yes. When asked if that meant he was going to stay in Oakland, he said “I didn’t say that.”
Sorry for not having a link to the story, but I remember it like yesterday.
Don’t fool yourself, Baron’s mission is to get paid.

i'm all for drafting
Batum . The kid looks very skilled for his size. very agile with good handles and passing skills. Nellie’s type of guy, so he’ll probably get playing time.
looks a bit
soft at this point to contribute in the NBA. He could end up being like a Diaw if he bulked up but look how long it took Diaw to become a contributor. Plus it was only because he was found in the right system. With Atl he would probably be out of the league by now.

I dont know anything about Batum but
Diaw did start producing immediately when he got to the right system so by that logic couldnt Batum start producing here right away since the system suits him? seems like your logic doesnt add up, or I misinterpreted what you were saying.
diaw had to
play the 4 & 5 in an uptempo system to succeed. Diaw probably has 30-40 pounds on Batum.
Batum would die playing the 4 or 5 at his current frame.

batum
should not play the 4-5, but 2-3, i see him more as scottie pippen, nelson just needs to stop playing people out of their position as much, unless it’s with size. With batum playing the position of point forward.
JR Smith performed at a pretty average level. That’s not good, that’s not bad. It’s average. He helped about as much as he hurt. He can put points on the board, but he doesn’t aid in too many defensive stops. A guy with his hops and size should be a bit better at grabbing boards, but it doesn’t appear to be anything he’s interested in.
A Smith/Ellis backcourt could result in a whole lot of 138-136 games. No guarantee that we’d be on the front end of that though.
Ford for Harrington
Even though I like T.J. Ford, I see a couple of problems with this trade.
Fro starters, if it is just a salary swap (no picks involved) then why should we trade a guy from a position of weakness for a guy who plays at a position of our strength. Al is the closest thing we have to a consistent PF (although I think BWright will quickly fill that role next year), and T.J. Ford plays at a position where our only potential All-Star eats up the minutes.
I understand the logic of securing a solid backup (I think we should be focusing on our bench this offseason), but to pay him 8 mil for 15-20 minutes a game? Thats why Toronto is looking to dump him. Plus, even though Baron is injury prone, Ford is probably worse. We could just as easily end up with both hurt at the same time!
And I really dont see the logic of playing Monta and T.J. in the same backcourt. Both are rail thin, and neither are long enough to defend against the average SG in the west. If anything we need to add a guard that can defend both positions and ball handle, and can spot minutes for both Monta and Baron and fit well with either. (If anyone can think of someone in the league that fits this bill, please shout it out).
there are a few
of them in the league and some shouldn’t be too expensive either.
Some guys that I think would fit that mold are:
Roger Mason
Crittenton
Stuckey
Flip Murray
I doubt the Dubz will land any of them this offseason but I’d rather have any of those guys spell Baron than CJ not because of skills but because they would have a better chance of defending 2 guards when Baron is resting so Monta can guard the opposition’s point man.

A couple comment and thoughts about my post
T.J. ford would be a great pick up for Al. I think it would work out. IceDubs, Baron and StackJack did not melt down last year because of a normal cold streak. It was because they were exhausted. No player in there late 20’s can play 40 minutes a game, 82 games, and at nellie ball speed. That’s why they burned out. And that’s why T.J. Ford would be a great addition. And why wouldn’t the heat want Baron. We could throw in Marco or someone if they want more. But they have 12 FA and have more cap room than almost anyone else. When they see a lineup w/ marion, davis, and wade, they think celtics 2.0. With rose, they will think of more of a 2-3 year process and w/ wades injury issues and possiblities of losing one of their stars, why take a chance with rose, when you have an all-star already with baron.

Noooooo
While TJF may or may not be a good fit to the guard rotation (I do not), any thought of moving Harrington HAS to incorporate replacing him with a big unless you want Kosta playing major minutes (I do not)
sam23- is Moon rotation-ready? (referring to your comment above) also
- KAz is not under contract, and we may not be able to keep him with new contracts for AB, Ellis
Guys, we are all already HOPING BWright can be in the rotation next year, to expect Moon and/or a #14 to contribute is too much to ask a playoff bound team to expect
- we have only the TPE flexibility and AL as trading assets as we enter the draft; I think Mullin might be able move the #14 to take on a useful PF with a heavy contract, then match any offers to AB&Ellis. Then we have a veteran PF for Nelson to mix and match with Al, AB, & hopefully BWright. With enough rotation-ready bigs on the roster everyone who wants to critique Nelson for not using enough bigs have something to back up their argument
I know, I know, I still have to come up with a list of PF candidates for Mullin: coming soon …
Is moon rotation ready?
uhhhhh….he was played heavy minutes for a pretty solid team this year, I dont see why he wouldnt be ready to be our 6th or 7th man next season. Moon’s length, defense and hustle would give us what Barnes/Pietrus were supposed to this year. We would probably still have a little cap room to sign Buike, or use part of the MLE on him. Ford does have injury concerns, he’s not big, and his contract is bad, but I think overall the deal would make the team better.
Toronto
is trying to dump Ford’s contract , Al is worth more to us, but: Ford + Moon + 2008 1st rounder for Al + Bellineli, 2008 2nd round pick would be worth doing. It allows us more flexibility in this draft by trading up our 2nd pick. Baron, Wade, Marion would be a formidable trio to rival Boston, definitely worth the #2 pick in the draft, but Miami is way over the cap unless we take back salary or use our trade exemption. If we move Baron, we would be officially rebuilding and may not see playoffs any time soon.
Incorrect
Miami WAS way over the cap. Them team was filled with superstars of the 90’s with 20 mil contracts. I seriously doubt that they will resign morning, williams, or davis. That only makes up 25 mil. They may have as much spending money as the T-wolves have. Depending on what they do in the next few week, we may be able to get a deal in on draft day.

Enjoying the comments
I agreed with norcal’s trade idea, but then i agree with montasmob when looking at the dearth at PF that we would be left with. Al is a great 6th man if Wright moves into the starting lineup. Question is defense: are we more likely to develop Marco into a solid backcourt rotation defender? Or will Wright become a blocking machine and help AB defend the paint and clean the glass? I’m not holding my breath on either of those things happening.

Defense
T.J. ford nor J.R. smith could answer defense what-so-ever. I do blieve Smith could evolve into a good defender but not Ford. The ideal situation in my opinion(although unrealist) would be like this:
PG: Rose/Ford
SG: Ellis/Buike
SF: Jackson/Posey
PF: Wright/Powe
C: Biendres/ Jordon
Though it would mostly likely not happen, a team with james posey, deandre jordan, derrick rose, and leon powe would certainly increase our depth and defense. T.J. would be an amazing 6th man, and we would have an amazing you team for years to come.

my bad
not much of a speller. Was also watching some TV at the time.

this all hinges on Baron
It seems to me that what happens with Baron will shape everything for the next few years. If he signs a 1 year deal versus a 2 years deal, that changes everything. We are then forced to find a back-up plan for the following year right away to avoid a backslide since Baron is such an integral part of the team.
If he signs a 3 year deal, we have some time to play around, see who is a free agent over the next couple years and use the draft.
I dont see how we can have any more conversations on this topic until management and Baron reach an agreement

contract
Whatever the terms are of Baron’s new contract should he decide to remain with the team we should probably still expect him to be traded before it expires. So a 3 year deal for example would most likely be a 1 or 2 year deal in Warriors-speak. So in short, get that back-up plan ready.

Dorsey isn’t really overhyped. It’s just that his critics in their unusually zealous quest to discredit him are more tenacious then the heads that say that they like him. Now it’s just fun to throw his name out there knowing that the Dorsey snipers are on alert with their fingers on the triggers.

his critics
are zealous to discredit him because he doesnt deserve nearly as much credit as he gets. I really dont have anyt issue with Joey Dorsey personally and he’s an ok college player. I think he would be a pretty decent second round pick. But the love he receives from you and others who think he can carry the warriors to the next leve is completely unwarranted. Give the guy his due, he was a solid role player on a team that went to the championship. But if he played for Florida or Xavier or UConn you would never have heard of him. If he gets picked in the first round he ought to give half his paycheck to Rose.
i'm pretty sure...
...that all i’ve said on the Joey Dorsey topic is that i like him. And i’m pretty sure that i’ve said that i like his strengths as a rebounder and shot blocker. And i’m pretty sure that i haven’t said that he can carry the Warriors to the next level. Maybe someone else said that and you’re just trying to lump me and any and all people who say something positive about him into a group of Dorsey admirers that you’re on a mission to oppose. It’s like a reflex with you now. My stance is that there are players that i like and players that i don’t like, but since none of the players entering the draft have played a single NBA minute yet i’m not gonna shoot down anyone’s opinions. So you can have yours.

im not shooting the Dorsey idea down
I’m just saying theres no way he’s worth first round consideration. One of you guys in the “Joey Dorsey Movement” said he was what would take the dubs to the next level. sorry if I get you confused but you all sorta sound the same spewing the same “he’s an AMAZING rebounder and defensive player” rhetoric all over the place.
